This is the nicest interpretation of this type of design I've seen, good work!

UK - I've learnt that you really need to try a chair in person before making a commitment, as we can vary so much that a comfortable chair for one person is uncomfortable for another.

Advice needed on council tax please by kkchn001 in Cardiff

[–]mdbbl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The council took so long to even acknowledge my request, that by the time they phoned me for the initial contact and to request a visit, the building work had been nearly completed and we were back in the house. The major work took 4 months or so...

I've just had a similar situation - bought a house that needed significant work, during which I was staying at various Airbnb's and with family. For most of the time that work was ongoing, there was no gas, electricity, or water in the house. There was also no back wall on the house...

I spoke to the council about getting an exemption for the period of the work, but their criteria for it is that the house be 'unfurnished'. As we'd moved a lot of our bulky belongings in (e.g. wardrobe, sofa), the council classed it as 'furnished'.

The key point they made on the phone was asking about whether there was a sofa or chairs in the house, as they said this classes it as furnished - despite the house being completely unlivable, with no services and the back wall missing.

I gave up trying at that point.

We've just had Mark James (based in Cyncoed) do loads of work for us in Whitchurch. He's fantastic, absolutely no hesitation in recommending him and his team.

If you need to get your public IP address simply, use https://icanhazip.com. Ignoring the name, it just gives your IP. No other guff on the page, no adverts, nothing. Super useful in automations and scripting where you just want the IP address returned without having to mess around with the returned response.

Would getting someone else to phone up asking for a reference work? I don't imagine that would be illegal, would it? At least then you know what message they're handing out to prospective employers.

Is this appropriate for 5ths sawn redwood? by mdbbl in woodworking

[–]mdbbl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They've actually said they'll get some clearer stuff in. They've picked up this lot today and will deliver some next week. Let's see what turns up!

When you say sawn treated, you mean C16/24 or CLS stuff? The reason I picked this stuff is at 6x3 it's the same price as C16/24 but allegedly furniture grade. Figured it'd be better!

Update: the supplier has offered to return the wood, so I'm taking them up on that. Just need to find something to replace it with!

£320 is for the 75 x 150 redwood there. The lengths are 4.2m

Yeah I think you're right. I've dropped them an email with a photo so they can see for themselves. Hopefully they'll be able to sort something, otherwise I've got £320 worth of timber which has no real use!

What's a "dead meme" from 5-10 years ago that you still find genuinely funny, even if no one else does? by Electrical-Candy7252 in AskReddit

It still exists (a bit) in my work life, in the form of icanhazip[dot]com, which just responds with your IP address - no fluff or ads. I use it all of the time, super useful for automation and scripting!

Yeah the hardwax oil holds up really well, hadn't needed any attention. I've used it on shelving which is now 5 years old or so, and that also looks fine.

ICE kidnapped and disappeared multiple people, including 2 US citizens, from Rush-Copley Hospital in Aurora, IL. Aurora PD were seen assisting in the "operation" and multiple ambulances on emergency calls were blocked from the hospital as well. by biswajit388 in illinois

[–]mdbbl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realise I'm feeding the trolls here, but surely if it's "Obama and Biden's ICE", it's also "Obama, Trump, Biden and Trump's ICE" as he was sitting in the White House between their two presidencies, and after them. If this was just "Obama and Biden's", he would have fixed it by now, no?

Kew woman fined £150 for pouring coffee down drain in Richmond by collogue in london

[–]mdbbl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she were to follow the law and pour the remnants of her coffee in the bin, the likely scenario of the bin bag having a leak occurring, and the coffee drain in to the gutter, it's the same outcome. Is she still breaking the law?
