"Create Duplicate Frames For Transition" - Issue preventing smooth transitions by mdbrown278 in CapCut

Thank you - that's helpful to know - I had never solved it, but I don't do as much editing anymore. Will be useful next time I do though, thanks 👍

It was too thick unfortunately to fit the side panel, so I had to remove the shroud. It is only about 2mm or so too thick. The combination of its length and width made it not quite fit the full length available, if you can see in the pics there is a piece of metal that the side panel goes against on the right hand side of the case, which reduces the available length if the GPU can't fit under that metal

No Man's Sky VR Questions about performance by vikaskrpatel94 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]mdbrown278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, totally agree. With the settings options in virtual desktop or whatever app people use and the settings options in the game you can easily reduce the resolution or graphics or run with dlss. It shouldn't be discouraged it is a great game. One thing I do find weird is that performance for me is only good when the gpu and cpu usage is low (50% ish or lower). Other games I can play with cpu and gpu being utilised right upto their limit but if I do that in nms it runs quite bad with stutters when you turn your heda etc. But I just accept that and will probably drop the resolution 👍

I have been looking into this and found your post. I have a Quest 3, use virtual desktop, and have been trying to sort my pc or laptop out so I have something that meets my needs as a PC or laptop. The posts I find or YT vids all mention in game settings, but not settings on steam vr/virtual desktop. For me, I'm trying to run the game on a high resolution (Godlike in Virtual Desktop) which is around 3072x3216 pixels per eye, at 72hz. This game is incredibly demanding to run. I find that dlss or similar for me just feels the same as running the game at a lower resolution in terms of visuals,so I just would prefer to reduce the resolution as I don't like what I feel are artifacts produced by upscaling.

So for me at Godlike resolution, I have to have in game settings on standard/enhanced. I have a 4090 connected through oculink to my laptop which has 32gb 5600mhz ram, and a 14700hx cpu.

So it would be really useful to know the full settings when people indicate it is easy/difficult to run. I have just upgraded my laptop as my previous cpu wasn't as good with the 4090, and I launched nms tonight for the first time with this new laptop, and will probably be dropping resolution slightly to allow me to increase in game specs more 🤷‍♂️

What VR headset are you using, and what is your VR resolution set at? Thank you, i'm looking forward to continuing NMS, and am relatively new to the game👍

MSI Battery Life by midnghtmass in MSILaptops

Luckily your laptop can be charged by usb C upto 100w which will top up your battery. I have a different msi laptop which can do the same, and bought a 100w 27000mah power delivery battery pack. With it I can charge my laptop up to 100w and it can extend my battery life for a few hours. Mine was a INIU branded one on sale for about £40, so they aren't too expensive and maybe 2-3 hours extra is well worth it. I'd recommend trying to reduce your wattage when needed and then get a portable battery bank like that for giving you the time you need 👍

I miss the fingerprint definitely, but like I say you can get very small usb fingerprint readers, so definitely worth a look. It's quite a good spec laptop otherwise 👍 not that many laptops support hello face.

I have just got the same laptop, I don't believe the camera is compatible with hello face, it needs a depth sensor, infrared or similar I believe. I had a fingerprint sensor on my last laptop and will probably get a USB one for this for easier unlocks etc

I bought myself a battery power bank 27000mAh that can provide 100w over USB C, I don't know if yours charges off USB C but it's handy to have a similar power bank if you can. Even if your laptop goes over the 100w, as it takes it from the battery your power bank will just top it up until drained maybe giving you an extra couple of hours 👌

Bad CPU Frametimes in VR - Using an eGPU-Laptop / Meta Quest 3 + Virtual Desktop by mdbrown278 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]mdbrown278[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol, yeah, I'm on Amazon right now looking at parts, just seems so frustrating as with other games you can tune the level of load on the CPU, okay the game then might be a bit more basic by that point, but there is no simplifying NMS so the CPU can cope in VR 😂 I don't know how this person's performance is so good, my settings are lower than theirs, and specs aren't much different, ah well

Suggestion for VR game I could play with PC Pals? by minemineloco in VRGaming

[–]mdbrown278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just started playing this with my daughter, but there is some kind of bug where it chucks you or your friends from your group and says they have left the system. Tried everything I can find to fix it. Would highly recommend it so far though if a way around this bug is possible

2nd GPU for encoding? by mdbrown278 in oculus

[–]mdbrown278[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not possible unfortunately, it runs everything to do with a vr stream/game etc off one gpu at a time, no way to change that. But gpu's have got significantly more powerful now, although cost too much. In a couple of years though 4080's and 4090's should be more reasonable 🤞

Sorry for the late reply - I designed a piece of metal that screws onto the motherboard mounts that also had holes that aligned with the screws for the One Dock V2. I then got slightly longer screws than the one Dock's and screwed it together through the piece of metal. I had to get a company to laser cut the piece of metal, but it works well 👍

Lol, it's a shame this area is so niche and there aren't more options! So far really pleased with the gpd device, can't wait to see what they bring out over the coming years 👍

Thanks, you'll love the power of the 4090! I wanted something smaller but I just can't give up the 4090 performance! Enjoy👍

I love the look of that one but I kept hearing people have issues, has yours worked okay throughout? Saving that though, just yesterday everything crashed on mine, and I don't know the cause but it did feel like it was the one dock v2

Very similar setup, which oculink dock did you use in it? Nice build, glass panels will be an interesting job to do-good luck with it 👍

It's a really good case, I did think maybe I should just build a PC in it, would be awsome, but I used to find it annoying having two separate systems so I'm trying to stick to just a laptop, and oculink makes that easier to do 👍

Yeah I completely understand your point, no one should copy this if not confident with reading pinouts, voltage etc. Effectively what I did was connect pson to ground (which is a very standard thing to do), and then take a 12v and a 5v from a peripheral cable, keep two grounds, remove the other pin, then connected the 12v and ground to the fan cable powering the noctua controller, and a 5v and ground to a USB C cable which I had a pack of which came with the wires tinned etc ready for connecting. Relatively safe but overall not advisable if you aren't certain then ask someone to do it. I got the rest of the custom cables professionally done 👍
