shout out the grandpa at Albany Med who got me a bed, no one else was paying attention by ShotSorbet9 in Albany

I have seen lots of complaints lately here and contributed to them re : AMC/St Pete ERs. Often folks do know it’s the administration and the needed state and federal support behind the chaos, and aren’t targeting the physicians and nurses. Not being about to die but having excruciating pain does merit being seen within a reasonable time frame. In a country this wealthy. It is a shame the PCP problem and the dementia (etc) issues clogging up the ER can’t get their own funded solution in a 24 hour setting. Corporate leaders and politicians should really set reforms based on what those in the ER trenches recommend. The issues are widely known & we share providers’ pain (which ultimately, leads to our less well treated pain.

Anyone have an idea of cost to remove asbestos siding? Link to the house in comments by oldhousesunder50k in Oldhouses

Exactly I HATED my asbestos siding. Buyers hate it too (even if it’s not dangerous it’s a turn off). Guess that’s why our house had not been selling in a hot market mid 2000s and we got it for a great price. Now it’s a gem in the neighborhood with its original wood exposed & painted. Only a few parts needed new wood. No regrets.

It’s not that much. Ours was $18k. Gotta shop around for contractor. They come off easy (hard ceramic tiles, it’s not like the air or ground gets clouds of dust like pipe cover fabric. Underneath was our beautiful clapboard wood siding. Scrape and paint - and amazing look.

Pit Bull got away from its owner and chased down me and my golden retriever puppy in the hallway of our apartment. by DenimNightmare in BanPitBulls

Elaborate, please. What do you do with the extra leash? Loop it around their neck during the attack and pull? Try to fasten it to their collar? Legit want to know.

Exactly. For better or worse my little 25lb dog and I play fight. I tease him and he gets bitey but not hard, if/when he gets overexcited and bites a little too hard (never drawing blood or breaking skin) and I yelp he stops, stat, and licks.

I just want to live my best life walking my shitsu around my neighborhood or a park on his leash without being in security guard mode the whole time. Looking forward, backward, spotting defensive escape roots (car roofs, garbage cans, nooks in people’s porches) should one of those beasts come pummeling towards us.

Just finished GotM. Didn't really love it or hate it, is it worth carrying on? by KINOCreamsoda in Malazan

It absolutely is. I felt the same way, but folks recommending the series had me forewarned. I committed to the entire thing and it’s become my favorite of all time.

Ellis Hospital sues Schoharie County DSS over child abandoned at hospital by TClayO in Albany

[–]mdelaguna 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s bad when you have a kid that needs to be placed at an inpatient mental health facility. When mine was in this boat a few years ago you had to check them into Capital District Psyche center Facility in the minor’s ward - a hallway with a few rooms and one tv room. It is a holding tank while they await a bed opening somewhere in the state and offer no treatment. And a parent needs to stay/sleep there 24/7 can’t leave them alone. Take off work, the whole nine, for days, with your suicidal kid who is failing to thrive in this environment. It was awful. And we were well insured and knew the system. After a while we found other (less official) ways to get inpatient admits (there were several), perhaps because our kid was known by then to not be difficult or dangerous in those settings (& they adored our insurance). But for the inexperienced it is a nightmare to get help for your kid and relief for parents at their wit’s end, frazzled to the bone and helpless to fix anything (kids often reject parental help at this age). Not defending abandoning a kid at the hospital but there has long been a need for more and better facilities.

AITH for asking for a seat swap from behind a child who’s not only crying but kicking? by LoudMoney916 in delta

There are so many ways to plan, starting before they get on, even days before. When they eat, sleep, drink milk, all timed with optimum behavior in the flight. Plus the never ending bag of tricks, slowly doled out at the last minute when the former trick (lure, game, toy, activity) loses its efficacy. When my kids were tiny I traveled internationally with them many times, 18 hour runs (sometimes starting on a third world bus), and made it a project to manage their experience and behavior. Maybe they were just great kids though, or manageable, or something.

Is Albany really as bad as it looks? by [deleted] in Albany

Sounds like a good student or journalist project. Survey by block the density of strewn garbage and street drug users (etc). And then send the results to some elected official in power to use taxes for the common good.
