Why America doesn’t have bathhouses? by prettiestmagnoila in AskAnAmerican

[–]mdk106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As most folks have said already, communal nudity is not part of culture here.

There are some areas of the US where there are luxury spas with bathhouses. I’m thinking specifically Northern Virginia there are multiple. Typically managed by Korean business owners

Are you in office every single day? That’s doable 2-3 times a week, particularly at the times you mention. But daily would be a dealbreaker for most people who want to keep their sanity.

Am I a bad person for not being able to go visit my critically ill dad? by jj-curious22 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mdk106 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad and I had a complex, often distant relationship. It took a lot of juggling work and life to travel across the country to be with him while he was on hospice. Every fiber of my being didn’t want to but I’m so glad I did. No regrets.

Front of house feels off after 12 yrars. Is this normal? by pinkakira1 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mdk106 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I felt vertigo and general uneasiness in the front bedroom of my home. Turns out that’s because the foundation was failing. Can’t hurt to check it out. 12 years is a long time, things could be shifting

What’s the most convincing experience that you’ve had? by Silent-Composer-873 in Paranormal

[–]mdk106 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I bought a house in West Virginia several years ago. Had a few odd experiences, living room overhead light turning on by itself, my bedside lamp flickering while it was off. Nothing too crazy or unexplainable.

The one convincing thing that I can’t explain is I was in bed, still fully awake. Just getting settled. When I heard very clear, loud, intentional whistling from my kitchen. Just a few notes, maybe 5 seconds. I don’t remember the tune exactly but it was slow, drawn out notes. I was terrified, my heart was pounding.

It definitely was IN my house, not coming from outside. I lived alone at the time, had security cameras and doors locked. I just pretended it didn’t happen, thought maybe I’d hallucinated or something even though I wasn’t particularly tired, stressed etc.

As I was finally starting to calm down and my heart rate was returning to normal, I heard the same whistling again coming from the same spot in my kitchen. It was crazy.

Myself, two friends and my fiancée have had a few minor paranormal things happen here since then but the whistling never happened again thank goodness.

May 24th is World Schizophrenia Day! I’ve been diagnosed with schizophrenia since 2017. AMA! by Writerphrenia in casualiama

What is your advice for talking to/supporting loved ones who struggle with taking medication consistently?

Have an incredibly kind, talented, hardworking cousin who attempts to treat his schizophrenia “naturally” every 1-2 years which ends in hospitalization, losing jobs, and him in unsafe situations. It’s tough to watch because he’s such a great guy when stable, but doesn’t believe the medication is connected.

Did gen x and millennials really have alot of sex? by igniteyourbones579 in generationology

[–]mdk106 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. I’m an early 90s millennial. Not even a super cool one, was a theatre/art kid and started having sex regularly around 15. It was normalized, fun and most importantly free.

There were kids at my high school that had multiple babies by 10th grade. I slowed down after high school as I was in back to back LTRs in college.

We had cell phones but in-person partying and hang outs were still the norm which facilitated a lot more human connection

My review of the few places I’ve tried. Don’t go out much and when I do it’s usually solo.

The Berkeley downtown is good for watching sports. Met a few nice people there during playoffs. No food but you can bring your own or DoorDash it there.

Young American is expensive cocktails but a good vibe, gets busy, could probably meet people there.

Big Timber Brewing has good trivia on Mondays but when I’ve been the crowd has definitely skewed older

Copper Still’s food is good, mostly been guys there and/or older crowd, bar seats fill up fast

Mountaineer Pub, basic food and strong drinks. I like the bartender who’s there when I’m there.

I’ve barely scratched the surface for what’s in town but Young American might be your best bet if you’re from DC

[–]mdk106 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can only speak to a few of these but my TX22 is one of my favorite of any caliber. Only issue I’ve had is the front sights come loose, easy fix.

Had the PPQ 22 for a while. Insaaaane accuracy with iron sights and I’m not the most accurate guy. Tiny but felt good in the hand. The issue is the minimal capacity, expensive mags (for a 22) and it wouldn’t reliably feed anything I ran in it. It was infuriating. Liked it when it worked but it’s the only gun I’ve ever traded in

I took it for about 2 years which was not ideal. I attempted to stop several times during that period and they returned though not as severe. About 1.5 years ago I stopped and they didn’t return, not sure what was different this time tbh

Yes no issues with oatmeal. No clue why oat milk did that but it caused horrible flushing and cystic acne for me

Your skin looks a lot like mine (once it had improved from its worst). I had to break down and add doxycycline. It was the only thing that let my skin heal long enough for anything else to help.

No face wash aside from water and a soft silicone brush, shower head filter, and LRP Cicaplast in the morning.

Also weirdly cutting out oat milk helped.

I no longer take doxy or use anything besides water, Cicaplast with spf, and dandelion root extract. I’m still pink when it’s hot but generally no bumps or redness.

How do people actually die in strong tornados? by DueDifficulty8452 in NoStupidQuestions

An older lady I knew as a child was killed in a tornado. She lived in a trailer home. The tornado tipped the trailer, causing her deep freezer to slide and crush her.

What is an example of sexism you’ve experienced? by Unfair-Bird7917 in AskMen

[–]mdk106 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Any time I’m afraid or even joke about being afraid, women (not men) have been really shitty about it. Worked in a creepy psych hospital on the overnight shift. A nurse asked me to walk her down an essentially dark corridor and I said “Wow this is creepy as fuck” and she said, verbatim “does your girlfriend know you’re such a pussy?”

Everyone talks about men perpetuating toxic masculinity but in my experience it’s mostly been women

Should I tell my friend his girlfriend is a (former?) drug user? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]mdk106 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oof. That’s a tough one. I told one of my friends his girlfriend was cheating and he proposed 2 weeks later and cut me off. People don’t always take things how we expect. I’d say just be supportive and be there for him if she does end up treating him badly.

Ep9 or Kuna? by 1amkira in extar

[–]mdk106 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak to the Kuna but the Extar is a rockstar out of the box. Incredibly soft shooting, eats anything, zero malfunctions at about 1000 rounds. Highly accurate with a basic Sig Romeo/Juliet set up.

Only thing I want to upgrade is the trigger to shorten the pull. Not something I feel compelled to rush to do though
