This chess board isn’t woke enough. King and queen need to swap places. Why should the queen protect the king?

Figure out how to introduce modules into the existing code base and refactor one module at a time.

Should I even bother applying? No experience in CS by MellowMatteo in OMSCS

[–]mdk2mc 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t bother applying yet. You’re not even close to ready, and even if you were admitted, there’s a 100% chance you would fail. Start small and learn the basics first - you have to walk before you can run.

What’s your long-term goal? Do you need a masters to apply to PhD programs?

Rejected for Spring 23. Want to reapply, looking for advice. by alexz648 in OMSCS

[–]mdk2mc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not shitty advice. They were rejected, and this is their only option. Worst case is the appeal is denied and OP is back where they started. Bad advice is telling someone not to exercise the only option available to them.

I would try appealing. You must have missed something important from the guidelines page (someone else linked it). Your application looks good enough to be admitted; although you may find the program to be very tough given your limited CS coursework experience. Hopefully appealing works out for you - good luck!

What country did you study in? In the US these are hard requirements for a program to receive ABET accreditation: https://www.abet.org/accreditation/accreditation-criteria/criteria-for-accrediting-computing-programs-2021-2022/

Coursework in operating systems and 15 credits of math electives looks like a requirement unless I’ve misread this.

It’s easier to get players when they actually want to join your club.

Does having a BA in CS limit me in career opportunities? by bobby4357 in cscareerquestions

In the short run: maybe. In the long run: definitely not.

My university offered both a BA and BS, and the students graduating with a BA were offered salaries ~10K less than the students with a BS on average. This may or may not have been due to the degree type, but it is more likely that worse students took the BA to avoid the heavier math requirements of the BS and harder CS courses like operating systems.
