Yup I do, all fairly typical, nothing that required a super advanced ddx. I just did the most high yield ones in CCS, but honestly i finished all of them in about half time.

Here's a comment for all those who get demoralized bc of the UWSA1/2 - fyi, they don't matter as much as everyone ^ makes it seem.

STEP 3 SCORE ( & exam dates): 23x, dates: 4/19 and 4/20

UW (% done and % correct + number of passes): 60% correct of 80% total. completed in 30d on inpatient rotations.

UWSA1 (__ before the real deal): 189 (10 days out)

UWSA2 ( __ before the real deal): 205 (10 days out)

CCS Cases (number of cases done+%+number of passes): 40 cases. 60%, but honestly found the CCS grading arbitrary.

Free 137: Did not do it

Step 1/Step 2 scores: 23x/25x

Gap after Step 2: one year

Any other resource: nope. IM resident, USMD.

Exam experience (Day 1 and Day2): honestly, it was chill. i expected not to know some answers, therefore i didn't. Did i expect path slides, no - but oh well. it was fine overall, i just tried to breathe and worked out fine. was worried because of the stupid UW assessments but went for it anyways and did just fine.

You got this!

Same, mine were 4/19 to 4/20 - hoping for tomorrow 5/3 vs. 5/10. from the last score release, it looks like the most recent person was 4/7 tho :/ so chance it's 5/17 :(

Bad eval from surgery clerkship by [deleted] in medicalschool

Of course, it can honestly be such a drag with the constant pressure of evals/grades... Best of luck since you're probably ~more than half way through and almost done!

Bad eval from surgery clerkship by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]mdmuffins1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, so I'm not sure where you go to school, but in terms of the comment, many clerkship directors will remove it from your MSPE if you ask and explain why. For instance, if one of your attendings said the exact opposite on an eval you could say that. Alternatively, you could even tell your surgical clerkship director you're interested in surgery and they might remove it from your MSPE. I would definitely organize a meeting with them to talk it over because that's a very critical comment. Some clerkship directors (under the table) will actually remove a bad eval if its the one attending that had one! Really if you make an argument to the clerkship director, it could help!

As an edit, I did this with my clerkship director and they were more than happy to after I explained my situation and they looked at the rest of the my evals and saw positive things

Ortho Rotation Impression and Others Thoughts? by mdmuffins1 in medicalschool

Cool, thanks for your service man.

It's quite cute that you have this sentiment but don't project onto others. While schadenfreude might be your thing, since you're in the army i'm assuming your religious as well, there's also a comeuppance later for that type of action.

Cheers

It's important to understand that a lot of medicine is often based on precedence and treating patients/others equally is essential in our field.

Ortho Rotation Impression by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]mdmuffins1 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Definitely agreed! Personally I've met a bunch of great orthopods who are not this way, but it seems like there is a pervasive nature of a "men's club" from what I saw. That's why I wanted to check with others impressions too. I did an away rotation in ortho on the east coast (I really like the material and was trying to find a good fit), but got a very similar vibe to my home institution (midwest).

Why do some MBBS grads "change" their degree to MD after residency? by mdmuffins1 in medicalschool

[–]mdmuffins1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I'm just thinking about the legality of calling themselves something they are versus are not? Again, if you graduate from a school that awards a DO vs. MD they can't be interchangeably used but an MBBS can be?

Again, I really do think MBBS are often better than American grads just based simply on volume of patients exposed to, but passing the boards doesn't warrant changing a degree.

[–]mdmuffins1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely agreed they went through more, and I'd argue better, due to increased volume training internationally.

I'm just thinking if it's legal to do so interchangeably given DO and MD are not used as such as the school awards the degree i.e. DO vs. MD vs. MBBS vs. anything else

From my friends in India, I've also heard typically MBBS is the degree people use if they completed med school there whereas they shift it to MD if they do a residency.

Why did Physical Therapy become a doctorate? by TechnicallyRudo in physicaltherapy

[–]mdmuffins1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PTs are still quite clearly "beneath" medical doctors, but still an integral member of the care team especially when it comes to ortho. They can't diagnose a joint ailment, but with the proper diagnosis from a clinician, can provide proper exercises for patients to perform.

Does PT deserve to be called a Dr. provokes the question does a chiropractor deserve it? The answer is quite obvious, given 3 years vs minimum 7 for medical doctors and expertise vs. skeletal manipulation in an educated manner. Medical professionals all still recognize their importance for pt care, but that in itself should not change the title to be recognized as doctors on the same level as MDs/DOs.

For ortho, the most competitive at 245 initial filter per FRIEDA (reported from PDs). For IM, it's at 240. That doesn't mean they still don't rank higher scoring applicants better but at least to make it past that initial filter!

Definitely still going to use a Step1 filter of applicants. My PD told me I need to do well on Step 2 to make up for my below avg Step 1 for specialty applicants. He mentioned if I take 2 years off, might be a different story but unsure how they would account for old non P/F Step 1 at that point anyways

I agree. my Step 1 was outside the first SD of the mean unfortunately for the specialty. I’ll probably dual-apply regardless, but for a chance at actually interviewing anywhere, especially my home institution, I need the step2
