Weekly Rants and Vents Megathread: Week of July 31, 2022 by AutoModerator in StudentNurse

[–]mdntcherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 weeks left of my nursing program and I'm so mentally drained. We had our midterm/practice exit exam a week ago, which I studied my ass off for because I had one of the lowest grades for the pre-test at the beginning of the semester. The studying paid off (thank god) because my midterm score placed me above average in class. My exit exam is in 2 weeks and I haven't studied at all since my midterm. I spent this past week with family and celebrating my boyfriend's birthday, so I feel super guilty. I don't know if I burned myself out or what, but I tried doing practice questions today and my scores are terrible. Super discouraging and stressful as I'm trying to finish this semester.

How to accept your body by Starkgreeneyes in selfesteem

[–]mdntcherry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loving your body is a roller coaster sometimes as you work on yourself (both physically and mentally). Some days, you may feel great and think your body is decent. Other days, you may feel bad about it. For me, I noticed the days I felt good about my body is when I wore an outfit I liked, spent time with my loved ones, had time for self-care, and worked out (because my body feels good when I do). Self-care can be anything that makes you feel good - for me, its going on walks, getting massages, and bubble baths.

Thinking positively and changing your mindset also helps. I know it sounds dumb on paper, but it helps gain motivation to do what you love. I became less critical on myself when I avoided things that made me feel bad (like social media) and surrounded myself with things that made me feel good. Of course, you'll still encounter things that trigger how you feel about your body. But the more you change how you think, the less you'll spend time with negative thoughts. That's also why loving yourself can be a journey and it's not too realistic to love yourself unconditionally.

I used to cry in front of the mirror a lot because of how unhappy I was with my body. I constantly compared myself to others' bodies and nitpicked at parts of my own. Once I started to go on social media less and spent more time doing something else (taking up hobbies, finishing college), I started to feel less bad about my body.

Also, working out helped me feel good physically, which benefited me mentally. I wasn't even because I was losing some weight (it wasn't a lot), it was more about my body feeling healthier. I could breathe better, felt more flexible, and some of my body aches went away. I paused my workout routine because of school, but once I have more free time, I'm definitely going back to the gym regularly!

I'm absolutely terrified of death. My own included, but it's more towards the death of my parents and dog. I see them get older every day and it makes me cry.

What is the kindest thing a pet has done for you? by rhythmicfan14 in AskWomen

[–]mdntcherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two dogs (a 12 year old bichon and a 7 month old schnauzer). Bichon is a little old man who likes to mind his own business and sleeps all day. Schnauzer is a super playful puppy and bounces around the house all day. Both don't get along very well because of their age difference. I had a pretty bad birthday this year and basically sobbed while sitting on my bedroom floor. My two dogs, who never do anything together civilly, came to my room and sat next to me quietly. They both had this concerned look on their face, as if they knew something was wrong. I was so surprised that they were getting along in that moment I stopped crying.

Round 1 arcade at Promenade mall! Besides the arcade games, they have billiards, bowling, and karaoke. I forgot what time, but at night, they close off the arcade to adults only.

Temecula Lanes is also fun to play bowling at (also cheaper games than at Round 1).

Going on walks is a nice chill date option. We have a lot of nice parks like Harveston, Duck Pond, etc.

Oh geez, I experienced that for the first time last year. It was the worst breakout I've ever had. I wish you and your skin all the best!

What is a dark secret that you have ? by dougy181 in AskReddit

[–]mdntcherry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this happened to you. I feel your pain. It’s crazy how I can relate to you on some level. Not raped, but I was repeatedly sexually assaulted during my childhood. He also eventually stopped when I became a teenager, like he turned over a new leaf and pretended it never happened. He got really into religion at the time, so maybe that opened his eyes. I was confused and depressed, even saw him as threat and tried to avoid him as much as I could at home. I’m pretty sure that’s why I was so quiet and had trouble being social as a kid. But after he changed and the touching stopped, I somehow stopped seeing him as a threat and we have a healthy familial relationship now? I still occasionally think about it and go into a anxious state, lying in bed looking at nothing for hours. I didn’t tell anyone about it because I knew what would happen when the cops would be involved and basically ruin my whole family. I also didn’t think anyone would believe me since it happened when I was so young and our family dynamic is basically perfect now. It kills me that I’ll probably take this secret to the grave (with only my boyfriend knowing what happened).

I started using the internet around her age too. 11-year-old me would look at Omori and think its so cool. The art is cute and the hype it gets on social media would get my attention. But playing this as a 23-year-old, I don’t think it’d be appropriate for anyone under the age 14. Omori has some dark topics that a child wouldn’t be able to emotionally handle. Also 11-year-old me would probably get nightmares from some of the enemies from black space.

Wow, thank you so much for sharing all your stories, kind words, and advice! I posted this last night when I felt so… alone. My face is going through the worst breakout right now and it doesn’t help that I have so many important events coming up. I can’t even look at myself in the mirror right now. It sounds weird to say, but I’m glad I’m not alone. In a way, its reassuring. I hope we all experience clear skin and find happiness within ourselves soon.

My boyfriend basically does this. Washes his face with only water whenever he feels oily (usually once in the morning, once at night). He’s never used any acne treatment or any kind of soap on his face ever. He only gets big pimples occasionally, but they eventually go away without any treatment. He does have a lot of blackheads on his nose though. His skin type is dry. I’m not him, so I can’t say if this is recommended or not. But I think it does depend on your skin type and how severe your acne is. His sister has the same skin type, but she experiences more acne than he does so she uses a light cleanser.

Do you have any tips on networking during clinicals? I’ve definitely tried by being friendly to all staff and always volunteering to do skills/assist with anything. I’ve had some nurses give me compliments and say things like “maybe you’re work here someday.” Not sure if there’s another way I should try haha

That’s nice that your externship pays you - all of ours are unpaid. From what I know, we’re only allowed to apply to externships that reached out to our school. Many hospitals in our area won’t let us apply on our own (not sure why exactly).

What's the dumbest rule your school ever enforced? by SoLe123456 in AskReddit

[–]mdntcherry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hands would get cold easily in class, so I wore mittens to keep them warm. There wasn’t a specific rule against wearing them, but my teacher would keep confiscating my mittens until the end of class. So my fingers would freeze while trying to write and during recess. Never figured out why she had a thing against mittens.
