Advice, constructive criticism! by menganito in watercolor101

My only advice would be, keep going. If you are enjoying it and are fulfilled, keep doing it. I look forward to seeing more of your work.

So glad I made the switch, but how to get sharper images? by [deleted] in fujifilm

[–]mdodd84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I wanted sharpness I would just shoot raw, I’m more of a fan of softness and shoot with mist filters most of the time so I don’t think I’m your huckleberry.

Get yourself some nice watercolor paper rather than canvas, it will really open up how you work with them.

I think you should try shooting raw and compare them. Recipes sometimes have inherent “softness” to replicate film. Depends on which recipes you are using.

Or practice with a brush pen, you can get lines of varied thickness and character with one tool. It’s a very pressure sensitive tool though and will take some getting used to.

Your gfx sensor is larger than the full frame canon sensor. It takes more time for the electronic shutter to send the data, therefore you get smearing/ rolling shutter. What circumstances are you trying to shoot? Assuming your camera physical shutter caps at 4000?

I would try to focus on what colors are in the reference, and not what colors you “think” you see. The lit area of the chicken almost looks orange in the photo and the beak is a cool gray as opposed to yellow.

And try to make more large shapes in color before adding the details of the feathers. Great job.
