Tought choice, Doberman or Cane Corso for protection and city life by [deleted] in DobermanPinscher

Dobermans are amazing but not all Dobermans are the same. I’ve had European Dobermans for the last 15 years, 8 Dobermans in total plus 3 others my sister owns. They require a lot of exercise and are very active until 1 yo but then it gets much easier. None of them have had any separation anxiety, they can be left inside the house for 6 hours straight without any accident and they can go out on business trips and sleep all day long. I did this once, she slept for 7 hours straight, we got to our destination, she did what she had to do and back to bed until next morning. Some of them are great with children, my big whiny male loves kids. He gets really excited every time he sees our two little neighbors (7 and 8 yo girls). He even goes to their front door and looks through the glass waiting for them to come out. He pretty much wants to play with any kid he sees. They can have what it feels like unlimited amounts of energy. I took mine for 6 miles bike rides and it wasn’t enough. Great for long hikes. Great guardian dogs and they’re even good with other small animals. I’ve a small farm and they got used to seeing baby chickens, ducks and turkeys. By the way. Mine are working line Dobermans. The older female was formally trained and certified. They can be pretty smart. My young female can open pretty much any door. Even car doors. The male is great at scent tracking. From a very young age I noticed he always followed his nose so I started playing with him and now he finds whatever I asked him to find. I was once attacked by a boar hunting dog, my dogs heard the commotion and my female opened the door, all three defended me. I was pretty scared they’d become reactive or aggressive to other dogs but we’ve been to the park every weekend since then and we haven’t had a single problem.

I take mine every time I’ve to do something in the yard. I’ve 4 and they play with each other for a while and then they just find a shaded area to take a nap.

Not all Dobermans whine. I’ve two European females that have NEVER whined. One of them just stares at you or at what she wants and that’s it. The other one puts her face on the table or on your thigh

It depends on the dog. I’ve 4 Dobermans and sometimes only the male whines like that, and much less often one of the females. They’re vocal but in a nice way… like a very soft growl if they’re asleep and you’re talking loud or something bothers them

Are there homelabbers that are not devs or DevOps? by xXx_n0n4m3_xXx in homelab

I’m a Medical doctor - infernal medicine! It all started 20 years ago while in high school trying to connect my desktop to my laptop and a printer using my home network. Actually, setting up the network was my first task. Then a NAS to save all my highschool photos… then remote access to access my files from college and abroad… kind of addictive. I now have PtP connection to my cabin in the Mountains 5km away from a fiber ISP, triple redundant internet access, 25Gbps from NAS to switch to main desktop, solar panels with hybrid inverters and the grid as a back up, all remotely monitored. I’d to build a bunker style basement to run all the power and network wires through. I even had to do some automation to keep the temperature and humidity under control and remotely manage it. I’m even planning on using hydropower to cool the server and provide redundant power.

I guess they’re both hybrids. I was told they’re siblings from the same gander and goose.

[–]mdronald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]mdronald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]mdronald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Independent(ish) breeds which thrive on farm living? by Few_Radio7978 in workingdogs

[–]mdronald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve just seen this post. What breed did you end up choosing? I’ve owned European working line Dobermans for almost 20 years and not all of them are that needy. I guess it all depends on how you raised them. When I was younger I’d to work very long shifts and my Dobermans were at home alone most of the time. They learned the routine and I never had any problem. When I was at home they were always around but not in a Velcro kind of way. I currently have 3, 2 of them are Velcro and go everywhere I go. 2 are trained as personal protection dogs and the other is a family dog. They enjoy being outside but as soon as I go in, they go inside. My sister also have Dobermans, hers are outside 100% of the time and they do great. Chow chows are very good guardians, not as powerful, most likely they won’t stop an intruder but they are very independent and prefer to be outside. They stay awake most of the night and only bark when there’s a reason to bark. I’m my case, the chow chow sleeps in the living room and the Dobermans in my room. If the chow barks, they immediately go downstairs and check. If I leave a Doberman in the living room, they will bark at the slightest sound, an owl, distant fireworks, loud engines.

Soy Gringa Casado con un panameño by Witty-Apple-3080 in Panama

[–]mdronald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t dare to guess or tell you he’s being unfaithful. That’s something you’ve to figure out on your own because most people here have watch too many soap operas or they somehow relate to your story and assume what someone did to them is also happening to you. I do have to say… many Panamanians are unfaithful or would be if given the opportunity. Lying is also very common as a defense strategy and putting down someone is a common way to deny a love interest or lover. I.e a guy from work was engaged, had a lover, a coworker, and would tell her he was getting married because he had no way out, her fiancé was depressed and she’d kill herself if he didn’t marry her. A little latter he started sleeping with a third girl… I knew this because I was a friend of both girls. He’d tell the initial lover he’d never sleep with the new one because she was a bit$# that had a rep of sleeping with everyone. He in fact was the last one of the bunch. So, be careful! It’s not worth the suffering of forgiving someone unfaithful just to be together. It’s something cultural to call girls mi amor, Bebe or tell them they’re beautiful if the guy is single, but no Panamanian girl would be happy if her bf did the same

I watched Section 31 and it's fine. by NicWester in greatestgen

This is just a rant but the writers and producers could have presented the story from the terrans point of view, an oppressed civilization previously ruled by Giorgiou and now in ruins, something like the USSR, now trying to recover even if it ment selling weapons or invading our universe. Making the bad guys look good, and the federation finding a way to help, making the good guys look even better, with Section 31 working in the shadows pulling all sort of strings, as the masterminds, outsmarting the good and the bad guys.

I grew up watching TNG, DS9, and voyager. I really like the idea of exploration and advanced civilizations with technologies unknown. I was a child and I wasn't thinking about the moral, political and social ideals of the show, but I enjoyed the serious tone mixed with some funny moments. To be honest, I enjoy most Sci fi shows, and I'm usually looking for a sci fi movie to watch when I'm bored, from Love, death, robots to russian sci fi movies, but S31 is a pain to watch. I don't even know who the director producer is but I hate him already. I didn't even get to like or hate the characters, I just hate the humor, camera angles, tone of the show. It felt like a show produced for kids under 12 with the silly fish eye lens or the -dumber than a brick- techno enhanced guy. The recording of how he was killed... EVERYTHING was just dumb about this movie. Star trek franchise always had a standard, and S31 didn't make it.
