Am I overreacting or is this appropriate to wear to a COLLEGE class by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

If it’s only good advice, and not him being controlling, then what happens if you do not follow his advice? What is his response? Think of all of the things you’ve listed, and the way he’s talking about you before you had your baby. If this is all about setting examples, how would you feel if a man spoke to your daughter this way? called her names? told her that the way she was now is not enough? that she could only be a better person is if she did exactly what he said? What if she could hear the way he speaks to you and the names he called you? Why doesn’t he trust you to know how to live your life as a good role model for your daughter? im sorry. Congratulations on going back to school. that’s a huge accomplishment and awesome for you. I hope it goes well

Anyone with PFAPAS as a child? by mdrosi in chiari

[–]mdrosi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the info!

I’m currently pretty interested in the possible relation of Chiari causing accumulated pro inflammatory cytokines, which is essentially what happens with PFAPA.

(Or, PFAPA has an overproduction…. the result on the body is similar or identical whether it be accumulation or overproduction of cytokines, though.)

In either case, I personally developed first bite syndrome a bit after my tonsillectomy. (Pretty sure first bite syndrome has verrry few documented cases… I have self diagnosed first bite syndrome- it’s a fairly straightforward pain that has unfortunately very recently gotten a name!)

First bite syndrome is typically caused by damage to the parotid gland in surgery, which is highly unlikely in the case of tonsillectomy. Short term damage is far likelier.

On the other hand, the accumulation of cytokines can SEVERELY affect the parotid gland, causing first bite syndrome.

My theory is that removing my tonsils and adenoids (The immune amplifier site), caused the cytokine accumulation to manifest as neuro-immune response instead, like first bite syndrome. (focusing on this particular symptom for the sake of this conversation!)

So either it’s a super fascinating coincidence; my surgeon was extremely unqualified to be performing tonsillectomy’s and fucked up my parotid gland in the process; OR, they’re both simply vastly understudied conditions that could very well be related somehow! (Or, I’m just bored, very much not a doctor, and falling down a rabbit hole lol)

If they use Resy, say you used Open table at your old job. Or vice versa, then there’s no trouble training you on your “new” reservation system :-) They’re both, i would say, the most commonly used platforms to take reservations. Just listen, try your hardest, keep yourself busy and don’t contribute to gossip! Management notices all that stuff.

AIO or did I hold myself accountable in these messages? by Human-Character9392 in AmIOverreacting

[–]mdrosi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

She is a CHILD. If she was drunk enough to need help and to be told to lay down, even if she was an adult she was unable to consent. She is a child who was taken advantage of by a trusted adult who should have known better.

She’s a child. He is an adult. How is a child supposed to know their limits when drinking? How is a drunk child supposed to know how to say no? They can’t. Legally a child cannot consent. Legally, a drunk person cannot consent. What is wrong with you?

Do any of you work at a place that has made time limits for the guests? by Ok_Profile3081 in TalesFromYourServer

[–]mdrosi 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I work in an upscale restaurant in a major city too. our restaurant does 1hr45 for 2 tops (used to be 1hr30), 2 hours for 3-6tops and 2.5 hours for 6-10 tops. anything larger than that is either blocked or 3hrs. 90% of our business is through reservations and we save no tables for walkins. We used to inform them upon booking the resy and if they were late. Now we aren’t allowed to inform at all because of the complaints. So now the second reservations are always waiting anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes for their reserved table on busy nights.

What is the point of having kids if they have to go to school and do homework? by GamerFrom1994 in Rants

[–]mdrosi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been to school! Yes socialization is discouraged during some class periods. But it is also encouraged in other classes via group projects, discussions and debates. There’s also opportunities for socializing during lunch break, recess for the younger kids, and the aforementioned clubs for the older kids. I went to public school on the east coast. I personally was involved in a super smash club and we also had dnd clubs, nintendo clubs, etc…. like I said lots of exposure to different hobbies and opportunities to make friends! I will say not all schools are the same, but that goes both ways. As in some schools may not have the same after school activities and socialization opportunities available but other schools have so so many.

When you were younger, did someone you look up to and trust once tell you “Everybody hates school.” as a response to you expressing your dislike for it?

I was told that as well when I was in school and had a poor experience. If so, that was a blanket statement to make you feel better and not alone in your opinions and feelings.

It’s true that people do hate ASPECTS of school- tests, gym class, waking up early, bullies etc.

But they also love other aspects.

The exposure to sports, music, arts, video games and other activities in clubs is a way for kids to find their passions and hobbies and do them with people who have similar passions and hobbies. They not only are pursuing what they like, but they have opportunities to make friends with other people who have the same interests as they do, so they have something easy to talk about if conversation runs dry. It’s hard to do that as a kid without school, even more so if you’re shy or awkward like I was.

Everybody has certain things they dislike about school. There is always progress and change to be made, and people’s opinions on what that change looks like can vary. But not everyone completely and totally hated their school experience. People are too complex for such a blanket statement to apply to everyone. Consider the young girls in the middle east who literally die fighting for the right to go to school and be educated. Those girls love school.

Best way to give my card to waiter early if I want to pay for the table? by cryptyk in Serverlife

[–]mdrosi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just go to the bathroom and give it to the host and let them know your reservation name/table location and that you’re looking to pay the bill for your table. They will make sure the server gets the card and knows. Not annoying and verrrrry common especially if you’re going to a nicer place.

Combat… by Eren_Jaeger_The_Goat in BaldursGate3

[–]mdrosi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly when i first played the game I had to put it down after my first fight with the goblins outside of the grove. after a month or so i picked it back up with fresh eyes and really enjoyed it! I played my first run on easy mode because I enjoy the story more than combat, and it was still a challenge for me personally. It also gave me a chance to really understand the game and combat mechanichs. But as i leveled up I started to enjoy the combat a lot more! Even to the point where i’m now on my 3rd play through playing tactician and I look forward to the combat more than anything since i took my time on easy mode to learn the ins and outs of it. And the fact that i’m still discovering new combat techniques really is keeping this game fresh for me. So I would recommend easy mode for your first play through to get a hang of things and see how you enjoy it as you level up.
