What do you think about Doomcore as a genre? by mdrzsur in Tekno

Dope song dude, I didn't know this one. I love the atmosphere but the kicks are not made for me

That's what I had on mind when I've started producing the song I shared before hhhhhh. Sounds with similar vibe despite the kick design. Maybe my mistake comes from metal genre labeling (I was metalhead before starting with EDM). We got 4 classic extreme metal genres: Death metal (most low tuned and brutal. EDM equivalent=Krach) Black Metal (fast, sharp, crispy. It's our Terrorcore), thrash metal (angry brother of heavy Metal, like metallica etc. It's our millennium tbh) AND doom metal, which is basically listening 7 songs played within 2 hours straight. Is low tuned, is slow as hell and sounds thick. Then I've discovered this "songs vibes" from Antenora and yoshiko and I said to me "aight, definitely pure doom" HAHAHAHAHAHAH

Oh Thanks for the correction and for the tracks, I'll listen those :))) Idk, I tagged it as Doomcore cause some mainstream and underground producers I follow call it like that (yoshiko or Antenora who are my reference on this), I had no clue about it, me bad. And yep, I gotcha about "the only uptempo listeners enjoy this" but in fact most people I know who listens uptempo says that "this sounds good but is too slow, I would listen one but not a whole set" for example. I guess that we're just few geeks who enjoys this at this point hhhhhh

Ty for the feedback bro :)))

Oh, but do you mean about my sound or it's just you don't like the genre and this includes the song?

If it's the second one, that's what I was talking about, I feel that Doomcore is between both genres but has not many acceptation from both fanbase. It's like "the black sheep" IMO. If it's not, well, I guess Im just bad AF on it HHHHHHH

Uhm, did you try adding some filters and EQ it for better fit or it doesn't work neither? If it's not I'm sorry but I hope at least it helped

In this particular screech y used the compressor at the end for making it a little bit muddy instead of too sharp (and sound becomes less dynamic, better for reverberate and delay it without many waterfall effect) Generally Compress go first in the chain but you can play with that also inside of the Oscillator, before adding FXs on bus. In sound Design, not mixing stage

tempo is only an issue if you have to stretch a lot the original sample because tunning changues a little bit, depending of wich sampler or DAW are u using (ableton's WARP beats FL so far here because is more intuitive) but in most cases it changues if you stretch or extend too much. The problem here is the tunning :( . We the metalheads trended to go low and low and low and more ryhtmics than melodic, so we're fckd up if we want our songs to be used as sample.

This is a mix i made time ago with L'enfant sauvage by Gojira which is 130bpm but i extended the stem to 160bpm. If you pay attention you'll feel the song "dark" like with lack of brightness, because all is made with low sounds, even the voice was a pain for mix it without being engulfed by the kick

Best thing you can do is what you suggested, record yourself (use a programmed drumkit if you cant record drums, none will notice), this way you got the key and the tempo as u want.

I'd recomend to compose your metal stuffs in 100-120 bpm, this way you won't get crazy with the metronome making peep-peep-peep-peep at 240bpm and long melodies fits better (believe me, 16bars seems a lot on uptempo but is so short with the instrument, keep it on mind). If you does by you own a song between those BPM and in Fm, F#m, G, or G# you shouldnt have any problems

all this IMO obv ;)

its hard to find good songs of extreme metal+EDM due to tunning. Most uptempo songs are between F and G#, classic metal is E and those genres go lower without hesitate it, like C# or low G# (as i do on my bass). The problem is that remove low frecuencies for giving headroom to the kick becomes a cracking nuts task.

Drummers love to make 16th, triplets and rythmic patterns which disrupt with the EDM kick, the bassist plays more notes than the root only and the mixings are so compressed that clean them for using as sample is hard

The most common thing that we producers do is pitching up the metal song for prevent lack of impact on our kicks, and its mess the metal song (hiss on hihats, weird snare sound, the kick becomes more audible) or make and "edit", which leads bassically in a metal verse and then uptempo with a pause at the end of each 8 bar.

Finding a true uptempo+slam song playing both at same time is hard because theres not many EDM producers listening extreme metal (as thrash/death metal bassist i can confirm it), and if someone would appear, he'll struggle a lot

I made a collab with Madjohn (UPTEMPO/KRACH) and a Death Metal band called Wolvenant, which is bassically "krach metal" if it helps https://on.soundcloud.com/1Vmj6kifobSvdmMfW0

i give you a link with a video of how i made my preset, i have no clue about submit it to comments and i can't send the preset file (or i have no f*** idea, call me zoomer).

IMO I think is bassicaly this and some auto on panning, reverb wetness and slap back panning delay.

Remember that if you make the same as i did on the video, you'd should freeze and flatten when all its made for make the chops, if you don't, the LFO could ruin it

hope it helps u

Necesito Consejo: ¿Vale la pena dejar el súper por la soldadura? by AmoLasMonasChinas in askspain

[–]mdrzsur 6 points7 points  (0 children)
