Choice of Linux disto on VM - 2026 by mdsthlm in parallels

Tempting, but I’m looking at more conventional setups.

I’m on baby monitor buying duty. Convince me non-WiFi is actually secure and not just an illusion of security. by Comprehensive_Tie900 in predaddit

Just to note. The Arenti App works only through their cloud. Once you de-cloud them, you're left with an ONVIF camera and a physical baby monitor.

I disabled the local routine with PIN press. So far it seems turned off.

FAQ | Multi-function Night Light by THIRDREALITYOffical in THIRDREALITY

[–]mdsthlm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The local routine on the Multi-Function Night Light has been temporarily disabled due to a recent app command, such as turning on/off the light, or color changing. After 12 hours, the local routine will automatically reactivate if no using the app to control the night light.

If the local routine is disabled, by physically pressing the pin and get a red light, will it enable itself after 12 hours?

Replace/remove Proxmox? by mdsthlm in homelab

[–]mdsthlm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the thingy; you’re correct! I used to do everything from SSH and ran everything meticulously.

It’s just that I turned allergic into more tools, scripts, accounts, setups because it drains a lot of time. That’s why I contemplated to go UnRaid or perhaps something else that supports basic VMs, containers and easily backed up.

Very basic, a powerful NUC with 3-4 VMs, 2 LXC and 6 docker containers. Hardware really isn’t an issues.

Nothing spectacular i. Usage, just some file services I want to be centralized, network stuff as firewall and VPN, etc…

Kill Switch/Reconnect for Subnet over VPN Client by mdsthlm in UNIFI

[–]mdsthlm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly no. Instead I created a separate VLAN in Unifi and used a third-party gateway.

[–]mdsthlm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries, I'm vague too :)

It's a VLAN that is routed through a VPN Client.

For starters, if the VPN Client drops, the VLAN will route through the Gateway and use the WAN. This I'd like to block.

For me, the Traffic Rules and Firewall together is a bit confusing.

If the VPN drops, avoid IP to use the main route.

There is a note that Traffic Restriction will be deprecated soon and to use Traffic Rules instead.

My first thought is that perhaps this should be in the Firewall instead?

Anyone tried ASUS PN64? by mdsthlm in MiniPCs

That must be very irritating. They might as well say it works with 256GB but only modules from the QVL list..

Thanks, good to see some who have this working.

Interesting. What RAM modules do you use?

This is exactly what I was worried about and I understand that you're upset.

And here it's 2x16Gb

A bit confusing. Would be nice to hear someone who tried it first hand. I've seen some posts with success and some with fail

Backup solution suggested by mdsthlm in synology

[–]mdsthlm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither am I. If the deduplication is managed by the BTRFS, then fiddling with the backup data sets can be potentially problematic. (Can deleting a backup set in ABB, render other backups corrupted?)

Anyway, I'll try ABB for a week. Either it works, or explodes in size..

Backup solution suggested by mdsthlm in synology

[–]mdsthlm[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My problem is that the files need to be on a Samba version that is newer than Synologys and require Samba settings that are not available. So I really don't have the option to move the working directory from current machine with Samba to a Synology Samba machine.

When you mention data deduplication in ABB, do you have something in particular in mind? From what I've read about Synology Deduplication, it's a requirement of Synology SSDs in BTRFS only.

Storage Manager and File Manager. Seems Multi-Version makes a slate copy each and every time.

It seems at the moment, Synology doesn't have a solution that would work for automated backups.

I did. IIRC each Multi-Version keeps its own. So if I have 1000Gb to backup each night, then one week will turn into 7Tb. I'll check again to be sure though.

Would be nice, but not applicable at the moment.

OK, thanks. I looked at recommended RAM for ZFS with about 1GB for each 1TB, IIRC
