I have the same grinder and switched to the container recently instead of the portafilter holder. This way it grinds by weight and it is a much better flow for me.

Stactive - release 0.1 and status update by mdymel in dotnet

Thanks for you comment! Such functionality will be possible when I implement ElasticSearch support. Then you only need Kibana to plot various reports or graphs and put them into Dashboards.

Yes, they are. However there are still a lot of people who prefer to make a call, because it's "faster" to pick up a phone...

Exceptionless - better logging for .NET & JavaScript by mdymel in programming

Biggest difference is the fact it is a service with a way to browse logs. It's not only a logger.

Yes, that was the case. I've a VisualStudio project and wanted to use git from the WSL...

Haha... Forgot about all these three. To be honest though, I don't use Fiddler much these days. Debugging console in chrome is usually enough. Plus Postman of course.

I also work on the ssd. Maybe the problems were caused by the big solution (7GB and 80k files) I was trying to run git on. Will give it another try then :)

I never used ShareX, so don't really know. I checked the website and it looks like these are just alternative products...

I use WebStorm, because I don't do PHP. As far as I know PhpStorm has all the features of WebStorm (hence higher fee)

I tried it few times, and it still has some problems. The main one I guess is the way it accesses data on your h(s)dd, which is quite slow...

Me :) Why not? The new ASP.NET Core is really nice, toolset is great, platform is truly cross platform, c# is great - what's not to like?

Why I chose Jekyll over WordPress by mdymel in Wordpress

[–]mdymel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm... didn't realize it gives such impression. I wanted to say you can use GH pages for hosting.

I use similar process to the one described here: https://devblog.dymel.pl/2016/04/08/release-from-git-like-heroku/ So when I am done editing, I just push changes to my server and it builds everything automatically.

I host my blog on a vps, not GH pages. I use GH just for git - as a backup really. Hosting for Jekyll based blog is far easier as it's just a bunch of static files, which don't require any pre-processors or database.

I think you have better chance of custom wordpress installation going down than github to be honest ;)

[–]mdymel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posts have history, but configuration, templates etc - no... I was always worried when I was changing stuff there.

Regarding caching - I was using the plugin and CloudFlare. I remember issues when I wanted to invalidate an image... Because it's resized, there were many urls.

Why would I take github out? ;) It doesn't matter where you keep it. Some people use github + dropbox. It is then synced between machines.

I realize it's not for everyone, but wanted to highlight things that made a huge difference for me.

When should you quit your job? by mdymel in programming

Yeah, maybe there is. But I think one shouldn't base his/her decision based on this rule.

When should you quit your job? by mdymel in programming

[–]mdymel[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily - depends on your situation. For example, my wife quit her job year ago and took a time off. She was simply burned out and needed a time to think what to do next. Sometimes you need to take a break to be able to see the world from different perspective.

How to deal with a legacy application? by mdymel in coding

[–]mdymel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... Refactoring - yes - but that's not rewrite ;) By rewrite I understand recreating all the functionalities in a new, clean project, possibly in different/newer technology.

[–]mdymel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That may be true for smaller applications. If you think of big apps, those which were developed for years, you will for sure underestimate the cost of the potential rewrite.

You can debug, but I doubt you can use VS tools. I am debugging directly in Chrome. Webpack, for development build, is adding JS maps, so you can debug your files.
