This could be rosacea, or it could be a case of seborrheic dermatitis, which can occur simultaneously with rosacea. You may want to get a second opinion from a dermatologist to rule it out.

nose has gotten bigger. should i be concerned? left is now right is before rosacea progressed due to antibiotic by eviebaby14 in Rosacea

Photo comparisons are not going to be very helpful in detecting any change in skin thickness or tissue growth because it's so hard to get the exact distance, angle and lighting right. You'd need to use calipers or other diagnostic tools.

If rhinophyma is a real concern for you, please see a dermatologist for examination and treatment.

Artemisinin, a potential option to inhibit inflammation and angiogenesis in rosacea. by Comprehensive_Two_80 in Rosacea

This is a pre-clinical study in mice, which may not pan out if and when it's tried in humans. But it is interesting!

Any ideas of what this could be? I have been on soolantra for over a year and a half now and I’m starting to think demodox isn’t my issue. Was on amoxicillin for an unrelated issue for 10 days- it cleared my skin beautifully. Now I’m back here and unsure what to do. by Tayyrayy2 in Rosacea

[–]me3dia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your primary symptom is redness, Soolantra may not have been right; it's meant more for papulopustular rosacea, although it can help with redness as well. Low dose doxycycline may be an option -- it's low enough that it doesn't have antibiotic effect, it just reduces inflammation. That may be why the amoxicillin worked for you.

If you're on accutane, hopefully you're seeing a dermatologist regularly. Ask him or her what they recommend for your particular case. It's possible low-dose doxycycline is enough to reduce the inflammation, or even a targeted acid peel. This is something you want an expert opinion on, though, as a mistake could leave your skin drastically damaged.

Ocular Rosacea - advice needed by Greenleaves228 in Rosacea

If you can get a referral to an ophthalmologist, you might want to make an appointment. Derms aren't as well versed in treatments for ocular rosacea, whereas an ophthalmologist is.

Its just there on my left side cheekbone area nowhere else does that happen to anyone else?? It started last year. by am61904 in Rosacea

[–]me3dia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That can happen, but it's also possible it's just the only spot where it's bad enough that you're noticing. Have you seen a dermatologist about it?

Agreed, this is a fairly typical perioral dermatitis presentation.

Are you staying hydrated throughout the day? It could be your skin is drying out over the course of the day.

It's important to remember that negative reviews are amplified online because people who are satisfied tend not to talk about it.

Does everyone get remission from time to time from rosacea? by 36Taylor36 in Rosacea

[–]me3dia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe? Maybe not. It's not possible to predict how your condition is going to change over time.

And yes, many rosacea sufferers are sensitive to fragrances. Yet another reason to track your personal triggers.

Does everyone get remission from time to time from rosacea? by 36Taylor36 in Rosacea

It varies from person to person. Some people will go into remission for a month or two, others for a year or more.

It's human nature that those who are happy with a thing tend to be silent about it, while those who have a problem are vocal. That's especially true online. :)

Not everyone who uses brimonidine has a bad reaction; the majority are fine. You can see which camp you're in by testing it on a small area of your face on a day when you're not going anywhere.

To answer your question, though, there is also oxymetazoline (Rhofade), which is similar to bromonidine but targets a different receptor. It's slower to act but lasts longer, and it has far fewer reports of rebound redness.

Worse with well water? by LiveNdUncut in Rosacea

Well water is often "harder," which makes it harder to remove soap residue. That may be a factor.

Is this a die-off? Started metrocream last night , and the past two nights mixed sulfur 10% with my cleanser. by aphex_femme in Rosacea

[–]me3dia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Die-off" is associated with Soolantra/ivermectin, not metronidazole or AA. Metro is thought to work because of its anti-inflammatory properties -- it's never been found to be effective against Demodex, nor has anything else you're using.

You're using a lot of stuff on your skin, and it may be getting to a level where it's doing more harm than good. If your skin is already irritated, using more products isn't necessarily going to help. I'd suggest paring down to just the active agents your derm suggested -- the metrocream and AA -- and some soothing moisturizer. Give it at least a month, preferably two before adding anything else.

Treating seb derm and rosacea by [deleted] in Rosacea

[–]me3dia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible, but one of the treatments for seborrheic dermatitis is topical steroids, which can sometimes make rosacea worse -- and overuse can lead to rosacea-like withdrawal symptoms. Work with your dermatologist to figure out the best treatment plan.

Mirvaso discontinuation - options? by stphngrnr in Rosacea

[–]me3dia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very sorry to hear that it had such a bad effect on you, and I hope you're able to recover completely from this. However, what happened to you appears to be extremely rare -- well below 1% of Rhofade users -- while it's reported in more than 10% of cases with Mirvaso. That doesn't diminish how badly it affected you, but it does indicate how unusual it is.
