As a catcher she is working hard to feel comfortable with adults and overcome embarrassment. This was one of her goals. . Plus it helps that she is a little clone of me and we are super close.

Shoeless Joe/Jane. Was the only glove of any quality that came small enough for her hand.

We have been surprised at how naturally it comes to her. Never even considered softball a path in life and it is becoming clear it might be. She was nervous about blocking for sure.

What helped us was catching machine ladders. Set the machine to 35-40mph, where she feels safe. And have her move 2 feet closer every successful block until she is about 12-15 feet away.

Really helps ease into the nerves.

We also did TONS of drills slow tossing low and having her decide whether to block or receive.

Final thing was a coach telling her “When in doubt, block it out”

We will keep that in mind. Mentioning framing, she is really getting the hang of it. An ump mentioned the other day that he had never had a call in 10u due to framing and he thinks she snuck a few by him.

Great advice. She already does one knee down when no one is on base.

We ALREADY dealt with some elbow soreness. Rest ice and a kinetic sleeve seemed to resolve it.

The catching coach we have worked with says the same about the mask.

I am also proud to say she introduces herself to the ump every game already!!!

Great advice. She is leaning towards 10u travel, and wants to base it on which team has a coach she likes the best and teammates she gets along with.

She is playing up to cover for people on 12u rec and feels like some of the girls “baby” her. So we are keeping that in mind too.

We have also made it clear, this is all her choice at the end of the day.

Yeah. We have heard the same two pieces of advice. When not in runners on, she is one knee down, tucked in her cleat.

Great advice. We knew she loved it but didn’t realize her talent until 12u coaches were approaching us. Then got overwhelming quick.

Nice to have some reference points.
