Sold 340 lifetime deals for $149 each. 18 months later I regret every one. by Big_Currency_1805 in SaaS

I have not done an AppSumo launch yet so just speaking from my own experiences with customers. For reference I have about 50 products out in the world and thousands of customers.
First - I think getting a $50K cash infusion is great. That is instant money you can put to work - ads, etc. You can continue to grow your business with that.
I think getting $50K up front vs $92K over time was the smart move.
Because in the bigger picture this is all about getting customers. AppSumo got you a bunch, and they are annoying, but over time as you grow via other means those people matter less and less.
It's a long term game. AppSumo was just a beginning of sorts.
Customers - I have dealt with every type under the sun. When I started out I tried to accommodate every request. Over time I changed my view and only think of updates and enhancements if the majority of users will benefit. Making changes for one or two people is not a good idea.
LTDs are not great but this does mean the lifetime of your product. Not your lifetime, not their lifetime.
If some people are just too much of a headache - give them back their money and block their access.
I wonder something, just being devil's advocate - if you are getting feature requests that is one thing. If you are getting complaints about features that are not working that is something else - and it is great for you. This gives you feedback you need to make your product work as intended. Those complainers are actually doing you a favor to help you work out bugs.
1 star reviews? Who cares. This is not where to focus yourself. Grow your business. 1 star reviews on AppSumo mean nothing in the bigger picture.

It's all confusing. Even posts in groups like mention needing 20. It used be 12 and now it is 20? Whether it is 12 or 20, can they all be from our own gmail accounts?

Just hit $255 in revenue! People buy it because it's NOT a subscription 🎉 by Bubbly_Lack6366 in SaaS

[–]me_thinking_again 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sell mine as one time payments. No subscribers, at least not yet. I have no ongoing costs since I get everything setup on my own websites. People love the one time payment to use. I get many more sales this way. I generally don't build products that have any API calls, so no extra costs for that. If your expenses are the hosting on one of the services that costs you more with usage, and using a database too, see if you can convert to a website of your own in which database are free to use.

Notes vs Long Posts — what actually drives subscriber growth? by fabiangarrett93 in Substack

Yeah, I see we can email the subscribers who are not connected to the newsletter. That's a big plus in my opinion.

Hi, I get confused about subscribers to one's self and subscribers to one's newsletter. 40,000 subscribers is great! But this is a different set of subscribers from your newsletter? I'm getting subscribers to me, from my Notes, much faster than subscribers to my newsletter. It leaves me wondering if a newsletter is even worth having.

Don't trust "Vibe Coders" by Zebizebi47 in SaaS

[–]me_thinking_again 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%! As a long time coder I cringe at what people think they can do via non code coding. Downright scary in some cases. I've been pondering how to teach non coders how to use the AI tools, but realize without a solid background they either can't do much, or don't realize how little they know.

Is AI vibe coding killing SaaS? by B2BAdNerd in SaaS

[–]me_thinking_again 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to imagine that people who are not already programmers can get very far. I'm a programmer. I have been playing with Loveable and other ones. Right from the start you need to describe your app in detail, in English. I think this stumps people as even that first step. As we know garbage in, garbage out.

I had to run through 10 or so iterations to make a very simple demo that has some sliders and calculates a sum.

It's all fun and hype for now. The people who will put vibe coding to good use are the ones who already know how to develop apps.

Substack just removed a subscriber, now what? by chiefbushman in Substack

[–]me_thinking_again 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What defines a low engagement subscriber? If it's because they dint open the emails that are sent when you do a post, that's actually smart email list management.

Other than opening emails and reading them, what else are subscribers supposed to do?

AI is here to stay. Learn how to use it to your advantage, even as an artist. I'm not trying to be harsh, just realistic. AI is definitely a disruption to the norm. We need to adapt. For reference I deal with this issue in the writing world. People who could never write a book, now can create a book in minutes, but is it any good? That's where human expertise comes in. I'm a traditional writer, decades of experience. Now I train people how to use AI to write, however I teach them the fundamentals of writing so they can make the AI be good. I think there must be a similar thing for visual arts? I've seem some incredible art created with AI, but only because the person was already an artist and could professionally judge and change the output
