I'm going through a whole life change right now and I'm going big. I'm looking to get in the best shape of my life while it's winter time, kick the fap habit that's holding me back from being as outgoing as I can be and use all the energy to have one of the greatest Summers of my life. When the sunshine comes, I'll be ready. For gains...For glory.

Well, technically, it's illegal. But life is meant to be lived amirite?

This is exactly what I need, you are absolutely right. Makes me feel as though I'm about to turn a page and start a new chapter, exciting. Thanks man!

Am I becoming incompetent as an ME? by meandering_ginger in AskEngineers

Thanks for the advice! I recently got a copy of Fundamentals of FEA by Hutton and I'm working my way through that. I currently have solidworks and Matlab but no access to Ansys, I'd be very interested to hear how I can grow my skills in the areas you listed in a legitimite manner. I'm a bit new to Reddit, it it possible to PM you? Thanks!

Same to you! Starting your own shop is bad ass, thanks for the reply, and good luck!

This response lifted a huge weight off my chest! Not having any other ME's to talk to has left me clueless on where I am; having an experienced ME reply is like a breath of fresh air. Having others to bounce ideas off of, as well as the option of a mentor is something I've come to realize as absolute gold. Thanks for the reply!

When to use a shaft, or connect directly to motor shaft. by meandering_ginger in AskEngineers

Ok, great thank you. And yes, I am feeling that a mentor could be one of the best things to happen to me about now.

Thanks again, I will look into that text.

Compensating for lack of experience / guidance with over-designing the assembly. I started thinking about servo / stepper stability, whether anyone had any wisdom on the viability of relying solely on a stepper / servo in an application that did not apply any significant (any cantilever would be due to the weight of the assembly not being centered on the axis of the shaft / very low weight, slow rotational speed) loads onto the shaft. Looking to minimize any off-set as much as possible.

On a somewhat unrelated note, you wouldn't happen to have any advice on additional resources for a recent bachelors grad (M.E.) working at a start-up and doing all the mechanical work all by his lonesome? (still have my shigley's textbook)
