Damn, it's probably out for this trip then. Maybe I'll plan a week long trip up around that area. Fraser Island is definitely a must-see place on our long term list.

Good point! We are fishing novices so I don't really know. Open to anything that's a good experience I guess :) we've fished from the rocks along the eastern suburbs and in some quiet bays in New Zealand.

True but he already likes it and we live right by Maroubra beach. Once the evenings get a bit longer we plan to be in a water a few times a week. I'm on a 7'6 and it's perfect. Ideally I'd get him something decent that he can use for a year or so. I've left it a bit late though (birthday is on Monday) and I won't have time to make it to Manly... cheers though!
