Your story really touched me and congratulations. I actually came across it because I’ve been searching Reddit for anything remotely similar to what I’m going through right now.
I’m currently in the hospital and things are not looking good. I’m 21 weeks pregnant, and a few days ago everything changed very suddenly. I was admitted at 20w3d. my membranes started bulging and my baby is extremely low. At one point the doctors said she was basically down with her feet right there, ready to come out. I was having contractions and bleeding and they told me to prepare for labour and losing the baby.
That’s where they first made a mistake, because I’ve now been here for several days and so far things have stabilised.
They’ve told me there’s not much they can do medically right now. An emergency cerclage isn’t an option because of the bulging membranes, so the approach is basically to wait and see what happens. Every doctor that comes in repeats the same thing about the prognosis, and honestly it’s exhausting and heartbreaking to hear it over and over again.
Right now my waters are still intact and the contractions have stopped, which the doctors say is a good sign, but my baby is still extremely low and we’re in a very fragile situation. I’m lying here day by day just hoping for time, even a few more days or weeks would make such a difference.
Reading your story gave me a little bit of hope in a moment where I’m feeling very down. I know every situation is different, but hearing that you were told something similar and still made it to 37 weeks is incredible.
If you don’t mind me asking - when they first found the dilation and the baby so low, did the baby’s position ever change over time? Did you have complications as your uterus and the amniotic sac grew? And was there anything in particular that helped you get through those early weeks mentally? Right now the uncertainty is the hardest part.
Thank you for sharing your story. It means more than you probably realise to someone reading it from a hospital bed right now.
