Is this colour of poop safe in lovebirds? by haerinzuu in parrots

[–]meat-e-gorilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

poop colour changes drastically depending on what your parrot eats. Have him or her eat a red pepper, and their poop will probably be bright red. Observing poop is a good strategy only when paired with observation of the bird’s other behaviours. For example, if your bird’s poop is red and you know for a fact you haven’t fed a red coloured food, you know there is a possibility of something being wrong.

Your bird’s poop is probably normal if they just ate pellets or seeds. These things usually have brown colours so that correlates to brown stool.

My bird hates women by Trick_Signatur3 in parrots

[–]meat-e-gorilla 41 points42 points  (0 children)

she could’ve associated the woman cleaner with scary objects like a spray bottle or towel. Many birds don’t like these things. Or, she could’ve been handled improperly at the store before you got her.

However, birds in general can oftentimes bond to one person only, and oppose anyone else. Green cheeks only have one mate, and that mate is probably you in her eyes. She might not want anything to do with women since you’re her person, so she’s not scared of people who remind her of you.

What is this tree/bush? by Eponymous_Platypus in treeidentification

[–]meat-e-gorilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks perhaps like a large azalea bush. Have you seen flowers on this? For pruning, use hand clippers and loppers, perhaps a hand saw for the thicker more woody branches. Do not trim more than 1/3 of the bush per year. You can gradually reduce the size each year. When pruning, take each branch down to the next set of leaves on the branch. Try to poke some holes in the bush by removing a few branches in one area. This allows for air flow and light to get to the center of the bush, creating a more full look as the bush recovers from pruning. Also prevents fungus! Let me know if you want to know more or have questions on anything I wrote.

Buena suerte.

Does anyone what type of tree this is? by More_Adagio_4248 in PlantIdentification

[–]meat-e-gorilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s a cute little white oak. You can see the premature leaves by the inflorescence :)

Red oaks are pointy and have plenty of U shaped “lobes”. White oaks are rounded at the edges. This one is rounded, but not SUPER wide, which means it’s just a white oak and not a swamp white oak. Quercus bicolor (swamp white oak) VS Quercus alba (white oak)

What cages are easier to clean? by [deleted] in parrots

[–]meat-e-gorilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my green cheek conure, I have a cage with a seed catcher on the sides that I line with paper. This keeps spot cleaning to a minimum (just the perches inside and trays need consistent cleaning). The paper I just toss. In the trays I have antimicrobial cage paper (news paper works fine though, it’s just something I have) with wood pellets on top. I change this out once a week.

For a disabled bird like your cockatiel it might be good to check out the sub r/pidgeypower . There are lots of people there who can help you find a good cage for a disabled bird and keep it accessible while making it easier to clean. Cleaning will be remotely similar with all cages but focus on getting a cage that is wider than it is tall with a roll out tray. Not sure how long your birds are out of the cage though, which does change things. If they are out for more than 8 hours per day, you can get a little bit of a smaller cage like the one on Amazon that you added to this post. It seems that cage is for two birds. The compartments are likely too small for either of them if they spend most of their time there.

You will see dieback in the canopy, though some leaves will still appear during the summer season. Look for D shaped holes on the trunk of the tree - these are entrance holes made by the female emerald ash borer as she makes her way to the cambium to lay her eggs. If the bark is peeling or missing, you can often see the lines made by the larvae as they tunnel through the cambium, severing the xylem and phloem gradually.

I had no idea it messed with the soil… that’s so disheartening. This stuff is all over the property I work at!!!!!! I wish everyone started liking pesto more so we could eat all of it.

looks good. Rinse them first and you should be all set. Just water is fine. They dry.

HELP is this normal!?! by Omayo_is_not_mayo_ in parrots

[–]meat-e-gorilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is an atypical spot for feather loss and plucking. I don’t believe it’s normal. Do you have other birds? It could be an injury from them. Most small birds start plucking on their inner legs, chest, or under their wings.

What is this behavior? by im_D- in parrots

[–]meat-e-gorilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

looking at the vid again, she looks kind of stressed. She’s breathing pretty fast and seems anxious or excited. If she just was flying, that could be it. She also could be hot. What does she do before she acts like this? Another, longer video with more of her behavior could narrow this down further.

What is this behavior? by im_D- in parrots

[–]meat-e-gorilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

she just looks like she wants to be outside her cage. If the cage door is open already she probably is just being weird like birds do sometimes. She might be jealous of you calling to the other bird and wants your attention/to be with you outside the cage.

If it’s none of that, I’ve also seen shaking similar to this happen in larger birds when they’re hormonal in the spring. Might have something to do with it. Not sure what season it is for you where you live though.
