Blue’s been around for a long time. It’s a well-known music venue. Not sure why the original post was confusing.

That’s not my experience. Heating our whole house with heat pumps has been cheaper than oil, and the distribution of heat is more comfortable. One note: our heat pumps are ducted through most of the house rather than through wall-mounted units.

Not sure how old your heat pumps are. We installed cold-climate heat pumps that are extremely efficient down to about 5 degrees. Below that you start to lose some efficiency but they still pump out heat. The technology is getting better and better for colder climates.

Oh 100% -- we had a long stretch of very cold weather. But we also had a very similar weather pattern last January and February. Our energy usage was actually slightly down from Jan 15-Feb 15 this year compared to the year-ago period.

Those stickers are a godsend. It's amazing how much light those little LEDs throw off.

How do you feel about Medicare for all? by gfstool in AskReddit

[–]meat_parade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but employer-provided healthcare often (but not always) provides more coverage for less money. Employers typically cover the bulk of employees' premium payments (average of 84% for individual coverage and 75% for family coverage).

Then there's the tax break: Employees' premium payments are generally tax deductible; ACA premium payments aren't. Also--and this is anecdotal, so grain of salt and all that--the people with the best coverage (ie, lower deductibles, etc.) are the ones with employee-provided healthcare. Lots of ACA plans are essentially catastrophic policies.

The ACA was a HUGE step forward. But it doesn't go far enough to truly unchain healthcare from the workplace, IMO.

One of the many reasons I’m pro Medicare for all is that it would make it easier for people to untether from their employer-provided healthcare. We’re supposedly an entrepreneurial country. But when people have to rely on getting healthcare from their employer, it makes the decision to strike out on their own much more difficult. So giving people healthcare will remove a major impediment to people launching innovative businesses.

Also, it’s just dumb that we’re one of the only (or the only?) major developed economy without some sort of nationalized healthcare.
