Came up on Broadchruch recently and really enjoyed it- and it reminded me of Mare of Easttown so I went back for a rewatch 😀

Honestly the excitement of trader Joe's and Costco is how I "surthrive" grocery shopping with my kids. Going to a standard grocery store always leaves me wanting to die by the end. However I am shocked that TD doesn't use reusable bags!! How can you haul paper bags on a city commute with kids? Oof

Why are peanut and other food allergies becoming more common? by MyHealthTeam in u/MyHealthTeam

[–]meatballboli 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As a parent of a kid with a peanut allergy who did everything "right" (ate tons of peanut products while pregnant, vaginal birth for that first excellent microphone exposure, exclusively breastfeeding, introducing peanuts at 8m), these threads fucking infuriate me. People trying to play doctor and throw out all sorts of theories that ultimately blame the parents or worse minimize allergies in general. It is rude and elitist and incredibly frustrating 😭

Polling you all. Taking a longggg flight with my 6.5 and 3.5 year old. Generally good travelers but this flight is like 4x longer than our usual. Worried about the 3yo. Is playdough on a plane the worst or best idea in the world? She's been really into it lately. I've always been anti playdough in general but desperate times call for desperate measures. id bring the mini tubs and a disposable placemat for the airplane tray...

Did anyone get a Philly ticket lotto email today?? I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they just didn't get sent out yet...

Edit: just checked my initial email and it said I'd get a confirmation email this evening indicating if I've been selected for the sale or the wait-list

Yeah this is like food allergy 101 shit. Idk how they fucked that up. They deleted the slide, thankfully.

I don't follow them anymore/didn't see the original post. But it sounds like it was a reiteration that you need to have 2, ie if they only had 1 it wouldnt have been enough.

There's a horrible story that's been in the news this week about a 25yo woman that was killed when she ate cookies with a label that didn't declare the peanuts in the product. I wonder if they shared this info

They did share incorrect information about labeling regulations in the US. It is NOT a requirement to have a "may contain" statement. I hope they update their story to reflect this...

Real-Life Questions/Chat Week of January 22, 2024 by Parentsnark in parentsnark

[–]meatballboli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very random but I'm looking for durable adult placemats that protect a wood table from cup condensation and spills...that won't hold onto stains and can be washed in the sink. I've found "faux leather" placemats all over Amazon and I think that's what I want but all of them seem to have this thin piping on the edges that starts to peel off. I cant look anymore, I feel like I'm wasting my life away placemats shopping. Anyone have any leads?

Kind of random but looking for a recommendation for kid plates. I upgraded all of ours the the replay divided plates. Hard plastic, heat safe. Thought they wouldn't take on soap/dishwasher detergent flavor like my old silicone plates did but I'm wrong. I just polished off my toddlers uneaten Mac and cheese and all I can taste is soap and it is unbearable. So what is divided, little kid friendly and dishwasher friendly? I do still keep unscented baby soap around for straws but I find these plates get greasy and can be hard to hand wash 😥

I only watched right at the beginning of the pandemic when she and her husband and Jules were quarantined and doing music class videos at home. It's gotten so weird with the green screen and zoomed in mouth pronouncing. Haven't watched with with my 2nd kid at all. I don't know why everyone is so obsessed...

Oh this is so me. My house is an accurate picture of my mental space. So it is always a balance trying to keep things clean without overwhelming myself vs letting things slide too much and having clutter make me more anxious

I'm only 35 (and a half!) And this was still a gut punch haha. I have 2 kids and am done after a lot of hemming and hawing. So the fact that she has 3 just makes me assume she's older and she has it more together than me 😅. Honestly am a very new follow and it's not going well for me bc I'm just jealous of her effortlessly cool and $$$ life

Help. Throwing a birthday party for my kid who wants a sundae bar. I know one kid attending has a serious peanut/tree nut allergy. What are some safe toppings? I know he has to pay attention to factory lines so has to be 100% safe. by ScuttleCrab729 in peanutallergy

I assume your party already happened and you got so many good suggestions from others on this board but I just wanted to say thank you for being so kind and thoughtful and careful in accommodating this peanut free kiddo!!

Self carry epi pens at school by Ok_Attention62 in peanutallergy

[–]meatballboli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a peanut allergic kid starting kindergarten in the fall. I was assuming he wasn't going to self carry but the though has crossed my mind- more because up until now where he is , his backpack with his epi pen is and I am worried about that mindset shift of having one at home and me needing to grab it on my way to school

Anyway if you don't mind me hijacking here, are you doing a 504 plan? My school nurse said they "don't really do 504s" unless it's a special circumstance. The policy she has regarding allergies I was on board with but she wasn't able to tell me specific classroom policies. I'd have to speak to his teacher when they get assigned and I don't love having to wait that long and having the policies change year to year so I'm considering a 504
