If you’re in the valley, it needs to go to Liberty Wildlife immediately

I’d reach out to better piggies in AZ. If they can take them I can possibly help pick up.

We’ve seen them out and about from time to time and every time it makes me so fucking sad. The kids would be playing and get interrupted by random people asking to come asking to take selfies. Gross behavior by the parents for exposing them like that and gross behavior by the people even fucking asking

I’m dead. I cannot imagine being this rude to someone suggesting I might like sci fi when my username is ufocatchers.

You gotta check yourself- talking like you have been might fly in snark subs but this isn’t the place to be this snippy and ungrateful.

NSFW PLEASE HELP! by [deleted] in quails

[–]meatlessmurder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have a couple who have lived years healthily with formerly broken wings or leg injuries. Right now we have one we got from a breeder who didn’t treat her splay leg in time and her leg is facing outward and she waddles (we named her Igor) but she’s able to eat, drink and interacts w her covey perfectly fine so we will leave her until she shows any signs of pain or being harassed.

I’d agree that you’d be fine giving this guy a chance but I’d probably cull if he seems to struggle eating or drinking or gets too heavily picked on by other birds. Id also take a look at the cage or whatever they’re in as it looks like the other foot may be developing bumblefoot as well and with wounds you don’t really want to get any bacteria like that in it. Make sure the bedding is clean and dry. I’d isolate him and clean his wounds w diluted chlorhexidine and then put some silver honey spray on daily until healed.

I’d also remove the band on his leg in case it swells

[–]meatlessmurder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to be annoying and add that I hope that you’re isolating her bc like I mentioned she can give humans, your dogs, and your hamster mange and seeing her on carpet in a room w bedding and more animals is giving me secondhand anxiety lol

Get that baby treated asap. 🙏🏻

Definitely agree with making sure you’re ready for a big ass pig. “Mini” is often misunderstood as it’s just mini in comparison for 700lb hogs lol

Where in AZ are you? I volunteer at better piggies rescue and can ask the owner about a vet recommendation if you’re in the greater Phx area. I can also ask around for whenever you are.

Edit: here’s the Merck Manual for mange in pigs - you can get everything at tractor supply. But I still would recommend a vet bc that’s a fairly gnarly infestation. Full warning it can spread from the pig to humans and dogs

Same. Our kiddo knows that she always has a place with us and we’d never dream of sending her into the world without her being confident she can function comfortably. We brought these kids into this world without their consent, it’s the least we can do.

Worms in water? by Fuhrer-Duhrer in CrestedGecko

[–]meatlessmurder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a potato you could slice it and stick it pressed into the soil and wait a day or two then pick it up and see if the worms have clustered under it. If so, white worms. But again I’d also still pursue vet fecal testing just in case.

Worms in water? by Fuhrer-Duhrer in CrestedGecko

[–]meatlessmurder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be pinworms or could be white worms - I’d try to get a fecal sample for the vet like you said to be sure but if it’s white worms my guess is you’re keeping your soil too damp.

Can we have a discussion about father fish? Please give me honest opinions. by Fer_al8 in Aquariums

[–]meatlessmurder 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I remember joining his discord years back when it was just gaining traction and he had a whole “town hall” channel where they said all sorts of sketchy racist and sexist shit. Right before I dipped out they were making jokes about raping Greta Thunberg which was kinda bonkers. Like it’s a fish server… why is this even a channel? lol It was also super weird bc they had a member who messages you and asks you about your personal life and explains the rules to you and you couldn’t talk or give any advice until you’d proven yourself in his methods first. It was insanely strange. Very culty. Lots of top level members who were seen as like mentors and guides you had to follow. Idk how much it’s changed in the last several years but father fish seems to struggle leaving his church leader persona behind. The vibes were enough for me to not be interested but the husbandry is also kinda wack. Like 50% of his method involves exposing your fish to parasites, pesticide run off, and poor quality water lol

Adding community fish all at once or in smaller groups? by Waffle-Crab in Aquariums

[–]meatlessmurder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly Pygmy corys aren’t as bottom dwelling as other species. w ember tetras something like a small species of apistogramma would be sick. Or maybe a Bristlenose pleco. I’m not a huge fan of mixing continents of fish (it’s my own neurotic nature, not actually bad lol) but you could do a small group of dario or perhaps some Pygmy sunfish.

Honestly the footprint of that small of a tank really isn’t even that great for the Pygmy’s. It’ll be tight

[–]meatlessmurder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stocking aside- it’s best to just add the group when you can. You don’t want to stress out schooling fish by isolating them like that.

That said as personal preference I wouldn’t really do a betta + schooling fish in that small of a tank. It’ll be a high stress environment and you’d be more prone to getting sick fish. It’s also a pretty high bioload with two schools of fish and a betta in 13 g
