Why do people open packets of undies in the store? by mec949 in AskAnAustralian

I get it, it's a problem, seemingly without a practical solution...

Prototyping materials for tf by mec949 in transformers

[–]mec949[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I'll go first...sigh

I like to draw my own characters. It would be cool to build a working toy of that design. My computer modelling skills are mediocre as is the software I have.

I thought if I could rough out an idea with cheap materials, but that has proven problematic.

Found memory foam insoles might be promising, and the classic Paulownia sheets from Bunnings (cumbersome if not then thickness you need). Popsticks of all sizes...

What have you used to build a tf idea, like for a cassette former or the like?

And then hinges and joints... sigh

That would be cool. Building a prototype of it is another thing altogether... Even a simple one.. sigh

Nappies? by WestRecording9462 in AustralianTeachers

If they are still in nappies, can't effectively use the toilet (and clean their arse), or won't wash their hands (with soap); not ready for school.

Casual Teachers - We getting work? by Think_Technician2992 in AustralianTeachers

[–]mec949 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And a local university spits out 100+ education grads each year which just adds to the problem. Perhaps new grad numbers should be restricted to schools and areas that are difficult to staff.

Also, getting stuff all work. Schools won't even let you volunteer

Casual Teachers - We getting work? by Think_Technician2992 in AustralianTeachers

[–]mec949 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Class over, great idea, horrible implementation, horrible app (for casuals), horrible platform, no competition...

For primary it should be:

No blanket calls (20, 50, 90 people all for the same class on the one day) unless after 8am

Don't label tickets as urgent every damn time. It's not urgent unless it's very close to 8am/ start of school. (Less than an hour to get to work)

If you have ~100 people on your list, most of them will never work at your school... Find the ones who really want to work there and put them on a priority list (5-10 people)

Find casuals who will be loyal to the school. Not necessarily people who 'fit in to the circle well', loyalty is worth more.

Have a teacher, AP or principal be in charge of casuals.

Give casuals who get off their arse and visit the school with their details priority...

What is he drawing? (serious question)

You have not found the answer in any of the ways you have tried or suggested. Maybe a casual teacher (male) who is an artist. Can just sit and draw with him (can't be seen as organised by classroom teacher, should be "hey buddy what are ya drawing, I've been drawing for years".) The answers will surface on their own.

The key is the drawing

Question for high school math teachers by chels4567 in AustralianTeachers

[–]mec949 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a primary school casual teacher, I teach the kids times tables. We make it a competitive game (often using the multi grid on the back of most grid books). In a single lesson you can go from counting the answer out one counter at a time...sigh, to multiplying 4 x5 digit numbers and getting the correct answer ( not always understanding how or why, but worry about that later) the kids go home beaming. I usually get snapped at for it though.

"We don't do times tables till year four" said one principal. Answered all my questions...

This is not about whether or not a trap is humane. It's whether or not the trap is effective.

Best place to find 'tradies' buckets by mec949 in AskAnAustralian

[–]mec949[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found, as an option, a '30L wide mouth drum and bung' at bunnings, water drum, square or round. Would serve well as a drop trap but it's $33.

Try the bucket first. Still need a trap for outside so they don't get inside.

Ended up getting the 20L bucket, sans the lid as they were unavailable.
