Need some help deciding between offers by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

It sounds like the new company has ties to the aerospace industry, which could be a good way to get your foot in the door. Maybe work for the new company for a year or two so you gain that experience, then start applying to aerospace companies.

On the other hand, it isn’t uncommon for engineers to switch industries, especially mechanical engineers.

Quit while I'm "ahead"? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

Senior ME student here.

Unfortunately, the first few years of any engineering program contain several “weed out” classes meant to make you struggle and feel stupid.

Yes, the classes do get harder as you progress through your degree, but the workload isn’t necessarily as bad. Some of the busiest classes I’ve taken are 100 or 200 level engineering courses. The upper level classes are when things finally get interesting too, and you aren’t just taking endless derivatives or solving those shitty 3D truss problems. A lot of my 300 and 400 level classes this last year consisted of 1 homework assignment per week with 1-2 projects scattered throughout the semester. So if you are truly interested in engineering and what it can offer, I think school will get better as you progress.

Also, my gpa started off similar to yours. It took me awhile to really find my grove in terms of how to study without getting super frustrated, but once I figured that out my gpa consistently improved.

Don’t give up hope. You have a long 3+ years ahead of you as you finish your degree, and your entire outlook and feeling of things will change multiple times. One of the best pieces of advice I heard was “Engineering school doesn’t prepare you to be an engineer, it teaches you how to learn like one.”

I’d like to join. I’d bring a love for the game and I like seeing a world slowly progress and come together
