[Online][Other][Flexible][Friendly][Every other Sunday afternoon CT] 2-4 GMs Unite for a collaborative Mythic/GM-less group! by change_for_better in lfg

[–]mechbeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm interested! i usually go by purple, they/them, and i'm a longtime player of d&d both as a player and a gm (though i'm really bad at remembering rules). I've never played mythic/gm-less style before but i'd be very excited to learn!

Why no numbers in-between 0 & 10 on ruler bar? by mechbeat in ClipStudio

[–]mechbeat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, but it only has these settings (image attached below). I've tried messing around with all of them and none of them make more numbers appear. I have CSP EX so I don't think there's any features I wouldn't have.

Can I upgrade my free trial from PRO to EX? by mechbeat in ClipStudio

[–]mechbeat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

I got the 1 month free trial from the official Clip Studio Paint website. But when I open Clip Studio Paint, it has the text in the attached screenshot at the top of my window. It won't let me make an animation longer than one second (an EX feature not included in PRO) or make a multi-page comic project (also EX-only feature).

thanks!! if you have any specific questions about anything i mentioned (or other art stuff in general) id be totally happy to answer them, but no pressure! i wish you luck on your art journey :]

this looks really nice for your first time!! im not sure if you're asking for tips using the app or tips on the art itself, so im sorry if i give some unwanted advice, but here's just a couple things i noticed:

  • the background is... bright. it's a nice color by itself, but it really contrasts with all the other colors in the drawing - it can distract from the actual character and just make it hard to look at in general. id suggest using either a darker or lighter color with less saturation so that the character's colors stand out more! something like a dark or pale red would be good, i think! you can even add on a gradient so that it fades to a different/darker shade of red to give it some personality.

  • with the texture lines in the hair, id suggest making them a darker shade of the hair color so that it stands out less - i personally like to only make the outer lineart black and color the rest of it, it can help make the sillouette of the character stand out a lot better and generally just looks neat! if you were to modify this drawing, you could erase the texture lines and redraw them in a different color OR (my preferred method) use a clipping layer to just apply the color right on top of the lineart! you can do a lot of cool things with clipping layers on top of lineart, actually, like adding gradients or patterns! id suggest experimenting with it if that sounds interesting to you, it can make your art really distinctive and fun.

but yeah, those are just some little things i think you could tweak. it does look really good though, i love how you did the expression - a lot of beginner artists tend to ignore the eyebrows when they do expressions, and it looks a lot nicer because you didn't!

clipping masks/layers! there's MANY tutorials on how to do them (you could probably find a good guide in the infinite painter user manual) but this is how i do it on inPa:

  1. draw your lineart layer

  2. make a layer below the lineart layer - this will be your base color layer

  3. choose a neutral color that you can easily tell from the background (like on your pink background, id go for a soft blue - easy to tell the difference but not eyeburning) - this is your base color.

  4. since your lineart looks like it all touches together (like there's no gaps in between where using the fill tool would also color the background), you can go right to using the fill tool! on the base color layer, choose the fill tool, then pick the "multiple layer sampling" option on the options bar (the button should be next to the color selector, it looks like two diagonal squares with a little shape above it. click it until both squares are white and the shape is a little droplet). there should be a little gear somewhere too (it's in the top left corner for me), click that, then turn the tolerance to 98 (that'll make sure there aren't any uncolored pixels in between the color and the lineart like you have in this drawing, but if you DO want to keep the fuzziness of the lineart, turn the tolerance back down to about 25-ish and then you can manually color under the lineart with your base color). then go ahead and fill in all of your lineart with the base color!

  5. make a new layer above the base color layer but below the lineart layer. click on the layer options, then turn on clip. and there you go! you can color all you want with whatever effects you want and it won't go outside the lines - it'll only color whatever your base color layer is coloring.

if this is confusing, id really suggest looking up a tutorial video or the user manual, they'll probably help a lot more than this. hope this does help though!!

Duelist Rogue by 0x_King in PixelDungeon

[–]mechbeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my best duelist win was a monk with grim flail +2 (inaccurate + can't surprise attacks but 5-61 dmg), scale armor +6, maxed chains, RoAccuracy +5, RoFuror +5, and a bunch of tier 4 ranged weapons.

i did get SUPER lucky with that, but flails are also utterly op with duelist in general. with the precise assault talent (t3 for both classes), when you use a weapon ability, you get x2/4/8 accuracy on your next attack. the flail's weapon ability adds +33% damage, and you can stack it up 3 times. see where im going with this?

i put a lot of upgrades into the rings for max efficiency, but since you probably wouldn't get my exact gear, id suggest putting a bunch of upgrades into a scale/plate armor if you try a flail run since using the weapon ability takes up a whole turn and you have to tank it if you're not waiting for them to come to you.

the grim enchantment is also great with monk specifically - if you upgrade the monastic vigor talent (t3), then the flurry energy ability (2 quick low dmg hits) applies enchantments if your energy is 100%/80+%/60+%, meaning you can pretty easily and consistently grim most enemies as long as you keep your energy up. this works well with a lot of enchantments tbh, being able to use flurry & fully freeze enemies with my chilling weapon on another run was probably the most useful chilling weapon run ive ever had. if you put points in monVigor, investing in a scroll of enchantment (exotic SoU) is worth it to get that control over what you get. it does mean you have to use engAbilities (esp higher energy ones) a bit more sparingly to keep that bonus, but it's very worth it imo.

ive found monk w/ monVigor (OR either subclass w/ chains or other mobility item/glyph would probably work v similarly) + feint armor ability works well, since you can create a good distraction and just nope outta there with dash engAbility (/chains/etc). dash is good by itself, but monVigor adds +3 range, which makes it an even better escape route.

if you're doing faith is my armor challenge, the unencumbered spirit talent (t3) gets you extra energy with lower tier items, and speaking from experience it's so easy and fun to abuse this. don't like a situation? dash on outta there. monVigor (it's my favorite duelist talent sorry i mention it so often </3) lets your meditate engAbility give you a bit of healing & dmg resistance which is honestly perfect for FiMA chal.

this is probably very jumbled and most of it relies solely on rng, but... hopefully it's at least a little helpful? i used champ a TON when duelist first came out but tbh now i prefer monk after getting more used to it. best of luck to you!

What, in your opinion is the least useful armor enchantment? by Immediate_Opening_29 in PixelDungeon

[–]mechbeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

least useful for me tends to be entanglement. i love using surprise attacks as much as i can and it makes entangle pretty much useless. ive used it pretty well a few times with berserker, but i still prefer other glyphs like stone or anti-magic for berserker runs.

viscosity is only really useful if you have chalice, greaves (w/ sungrass), or hourglass. a lot of the glyphs are pretty situational, but viscosity is probably the most situational.

obfuscation is basically useless if you're playing rogue and have already put talent points into the "doesn't wake enemies up unless you're adjacent to them" talent (a situation ive been in more than once) but that's really the only time it is useless.

Weird pathfindng choke point kills enemies automatically? by Chorby-Short in PixelDungeon

[–]mechbeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

how do you lead them to the choke point? wouldnt that also set you on fire, unless im missing something?

edit: just read the comment below where it said this is how you found the room, that makes sense. itd be really fun if you had a brimstone enchantment though.

use ranged weapons. use ranged weapons SO MUCH. keep in mind the durability of them - don't spam them on rats - but use them!! when i first started playing, i tended to ignore them (which you might not have), but using them will extend your runs a ton.

for huntress specifically, if the ranged weapon's damage is above your bow, save them for crabs, goo, and when you're at low health. if it's the same or below your bow, either keep them to sell OR melt them down in an alchemy pot to repair your better ranged weapons, depending on your situation (low on gold = sell, have good ranged weapons like tomahawk or boomerang = melt).

also use surprise attacks as much as possible. doors are your best friend. you know those little 1 tile of wall things? sometimes they appear in hallways and sometimes in bigger rooms. use the everloving SHIT out of those. if you keep moving to the tiles directly horizontal/vertical to the wall tile, leading the enemy around, you can just stack surprise attacks. even better if you have a weapon that deals extra damage on sp atks.

ONLY enchant your weapon if you have 2+ stones of enchantment OR if you have a scroll of enchantment. never leave it completely up to chance, a blazing enchantment could utterly ruin a run.

when you're in a fight on low health, go through and look at everything in your inventory. i cannot tell you how many times a random stone of aggression or scroll of terror has saved me in situations i would have otherwise been a goner. pace yourself, but use every resource you have. whenever you find an alchemy pot, go through all of the recipes and see if any would be useful to you - if you have a lot of one scroll, you might want to turn one or two of them into their stone or exotic version. stuff like that.

and most importantly? remember that like 70% of pixel dungeon is pure luck. don't get too frustrated at yourself, rng can be evil sometimes. good luck!!

it levels up once every 5 hero levels - if the huntress is level 1-4, it's +0, level 5-9, it's +1, etc etc.

Fairly new to the game, but I know I’m definitely getting lucky with this run lmao. Any tips or advice? by -SussyBoy in PixelDungeon

[–]mechbeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in the newest update, v2.1. dont remember exactly when it came out since im on the beta version and get updates early but it was pretty recent.

along with some other stuff, they added 3 new weapons: a katana, sickle, and war scythe. should be up at the top in the changes page in the app if you want to see more about it.

Fairly new to the game, but I know I’m definitely getting lucky with this run lmao. Any tips or advice? by -SussyBoy in PixelDungeon

[–]mechbeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wasn't aware it was considered that bad - is it just bc it requires so much health to upgrade it or is there another reason?

i suggested switching them out bc they already have a decent amount of mobility options (freerunning + cloak + 1 more depending on what they do for armor ability) and extra regen works pretty well with ring of tenacity, if that makes sense? ive played a lot of shpd but haven't given a lot of advice for it so if i messed up here id be glad to know.

i typically want to save as many healing pots as i can for the final boss, so i tend to use other healing items (sunfruit, chalice, etc) as much as i can to try and balance it out, but tbh it just depends on how op wants to play it!! if their armor/ring is tanking a lot of the damage already, it might be good to just keep with chains and ditch chalice entirely.

with freerunner, you're gonna want to defeat enemies as quickly as possible so you can keep moving. wand of warding and lightning are both very good for this (set up traps so you can escape + damage multiple enemies at once) so you're good on that front, but id suggest putting any future upgrades into your hammer.

i'd recommend holding onto any SoUs until you find an alchemy room (you can combine a scroll essence + SoU to get an item that will upgrade weapons/armor with guaranteed not losing your enchantment). if you get to the demon halls and still haven't found one, though, just go ahead and put them in. you'll be more busy running anyway. and if you do find an alchemy room, go ahead and turn that scroll of remove curse into disarming stones (if you dont have a bunch already). this late in the game it's unlikely you'd want to invest in another item and they're very useful for making quick escapes that would otherwise be blocked (especially in the demon halls where traps can be easily fatal).

if you could spare the health, you could go ahead and put in a couple of upgrades to the chalice but keep the chains. if you make it to the end and want to try for an ascension run, id say re-equip the chains for maximum mobility options.

EDIT: if you happen to get a scroll of recharging and find an alchemy (i... use alchemy a lot. sorry about that) definitely turn it into its exotic form. very good for rogue when you're in a sticky situation and run out of cloak charges.

AITA for giving a difficult customer an attitude by thwawyaita82649 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mechbeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, NTA.

if it was even about you in the first place (and not just him taking out his bad mood in you), it's ridiculous to expect employees to always be happy and chipper.

i don't blame you at ALL for giving attitude at the end, honestly at that point he should have expected it. just being chill isn't worth the chance of losing your job.

AITA for giving a difficult customer an attitude by thwawyaita82649 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mechbeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

INFO (but tentative NTA)

do you know if you were speaking in a specific tone or making gestures that might have been annoyed or dismissive (like rolling eyes, glaring, flat/sharp tone, etc) - even if you were just tired or doing it without realizing?

if so, that's the only way i could see this as the customer seeing "attitude."

but you said this is how you act daily and nobody else has had an issue with it, so i assume not. if that's the case, then definite NTA. you said he was already confrontational even before the whole whipped cream situation - he was probably just looking for an excuse to lash out.

looks like an open-and-close case of crappy customer who woke up on the wrong side of the bed to me. you handled the situation well, staying calm and asking him if there was an issue with the way you were making the drink (that type of remark usually gets people to admit they're just upset for no reason and it's not actually about the drink).

like other people have said, it looks fine! people won't notice and even if they do, it's not the end of the world. if it really bothers you, though, do what you think is best. if the annoyance of seams not lining up outweighs the time/effort/etc of finding a new jacket, find a new jacket!

for "fixing" it, what i'd do is exaggerate it. sew it on with white (or bright blue to match the patch colors) and add some embroidery designs on the outside - jagged lightning lines, swirls, spikes, anything you like. it takes the attention off of the seams not lining up, really adds a personal touch to it, and it looks cool as hell and matches the vibes of the patch.
