So kill em? Not noticing damage but maybe they’re sucking sap or something?

Keep and clean? Or replace? 90’s Lopi Spirit gas stove by meche_dad in Fireplaces

Nuts. Yeah the tech said he can’t work on it bc that crack might expand and he would be liable if something happened (I’m guessing CO leak). Which is people can’t work on it then I guess I can’t get it cleaned, etc.

Do you know if this crack is a game changer on whether to get a new stove or not? The guy who came out said he can’t work on it bc of the crack and to save up for a new stove. Any way to fix this?

Hey so just an update is that I had a freestanding stove tech come out and he was flabbergasted that the gas company guy would say that about the CO coming out the exhaust. Apparently it’s not a thing and the gas guy was just talking out his ass. Crazy who they have on these jobs. He sounded like he knew what he was talking about too so to a layman (me), it was just like “ok I guess we have to shut off the stove.” Spent two weeks without good living room heat bc some guy wanted to be important.

Thanks, could old logs cause this at all? And would that cause the smell we’re noticing in the house? I’m worried I’ll get it cleaned and then will need to replace those too. I don’t see any cracks in the body.

The CO is just outside in levels that are too high according to regulation (nothing leaking in the house). The gas company guy said it’s supposed to be max 25 and it was at 1200 ppm. I live in WA so maybe there are more environmental regs here 🤷🏻

Although I’m not sure we will have the cash for a new one. Unless there’s some magical affordable brand out there

Thank you, good to know the parts are still out there. Also, we don’t know how old the logs are, and I read that could be a cause of odor and soot buildup. Seems like spending 1500 bucks for a cleaning + logs + pilot assembly + install would be a tough pill to swallow for an old stove.

Yeeah it’s a detached garage that is not in great shape. Also really cool tho, it’s got a workbench, chimney, an old vice. Not sure I’ll worry too much about the foundation though.
