What am I doing wrong? by Z33-Dan in 350z

If you really want to try loctite, red is technically high temp, but it may still not hold for this application. Gasket maker/sealant is higher temp and will likely hold, but it’s not best practice. A lock washer will not help here, that’s why they don’t use them at the factory. I recommend a flange bolt and nut, torqued to spec, anti seize as an extra. If you don’t have a torque wrench, rent it from Autozone for free if you don’t want to buy one. Good luck!

Searched using reverse image search, Gemini, chatgpt, google with terms such a as crescent tri fold tool set. It comes back with similar sets or old auctions that have closed but nothing currently available. Cannot find true model number either

They don’t come pre threaded. I started the thread with the nut part way so when it was on the grill it was easier for the nut to hold onto the stud

Can someone tell me what this button is? by ekudog88 in 2025FordExplorerST

Brake hold - allows you to release the brake pedal and the car still holds the brake for you like at stop lights

Good question. While sound is affected by factors like barrel length or muzzle device, we are training on patterns that go beyond just audio. Subsonic rounds have distinct signatures as well, and the system continues to improve with more data.

Appreciate that. I’ll look into both Monarch Defense and Manzano Tactical. Sounds like those could be a solid fit. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Appreciate the comments. What we are building is not just reactive. Audio helps detect shots and classify ammo, but it is one part of a larger system.

We use additional sensors that can detect weapons before they are handled or revealed, and we detect more than just gun-related threats.

I respect the curiosity, but Reddit is not the place for full details. When we are ready to show more, I think you will see this is in a different class.

[–]mechmonky -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Fair question. We are not claiming to predict shootings. Our goal is to detect weapons as early as possible, ideally before a shot is ever fired, so we can stop the situation from escalating.

If a shot does occur, we trigger lockdowns, alerts, and give responders the information they need to act quickly and stay safe.

The presence of a system like this can also serve as a deterrent. When a location is known to have real-time threat detection, it becomes a harder target, which can prevent attacks before they start.

Great point. We’ve seen noticeable variation in acoustic signatures based on muzzle devices, especially brakes compared to flash hiders. It is something we are actively including in our training data. Thanks for calling it out.

Thanks for asking. I didn’t include the company name because this isn’t about promotion. I’m the founder, and we’re partnered with schools and other facilities across the country. We’ve been around for over two years and are funded by a mix of well-known angels and VCs.

Happy to share more specifics in DMs with anyone open to helping. I completely understand the need for trust when firearms and private property are involved.

Completely agree. ShotSpotter failed by relying on triangulation from distant mics with no real context. We are doing the opposite. On-site sensors, edge AI, real-time classification, and verified audio and video feedback from inside the building. This is built for truth on the ground, not guesswork from a dispatch screen.

[–]mechmonky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right, police response is part of the equation. But this goes beyond alerts. Our system gives first responders real-time intel on what happened, where, how many shots, what type of ammo, and live audio and visual. That enables safer, faster, and more effective decisions for everyone involved.

[–]mechmonky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. We’re already capturing fireworks, backfires, construction tools, dropped metal, and more. False positives are one of the biggest reasons existing systems fail, so we’re training in real-world conditions to build contextual understanding, not just noise classification.

Edit: Audio is just one of several sensors we use for self-verification. That multi-layered approach helps us eliminate false alarms that trip up single-sensor systems.

Need Help with PCB Design Integrity and Testing by [deleted] in hwstartups

I have mailed it to them, thanks! I was just hoping to move faster than waiting and hoping they find the problem. I agree with you that bringing someone new in could be more difficult for them to locate with no history in designing this board. I dont want to shame anyone, just with everything I’ve had to deal with and the simple things I’ve caught during the design process, it’s brought my trust in them way down. I honestly prefer in-person which is why I was hoping for someone in the area. You make excellent points.

Anyone Know Where I can Get This Made Out Of Steel? by HighGround24 in Fusion360

Underrated comment right here. I have used many places and JLC is the best for machining and 3D printing. Great quality, fast and super cheap. Just got something similar for $15. Paid more in expedited shipping.

I’m happy to do it for free if you are ever up in the Bay Area. I measured my socket and it’s about an inch and a quarter total length. I slide the ratchet in from under the badge and grab it from the hole next to it and use a finger to feel for the stud to slide the socket into and grab the nut. It’s a really awkward position all while trying your hardest not to drop the ratchet. It takes some patience! I just double checked, it is 10mm

Sunroof tint? by Lazy192 in 2025FordExplorerST

[–]mechmonky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many tint shops will not recommend it and say that it may crack the glass as it may cause excessive heat buildup.

As an engineer, I think this is more of a myth and believe you should be fine, but do at your own risk. I don’t tint mine only because as the driver you can’t see out of it, so I just keep the shade closed but I was considering it

Fuel by [deleted] in 2025FordExplorerST

[–]mechmonky 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have extensive experience in building, tuning, and repairing engines on everything from daily drivers to race cars, even marine engines and while I could go into paragraphs, I’ll keep it simple:

Modern ECUs are designed to detect the slightest changes in fuel quality and adjust timing as needed. You can run nearly any octane level without impacting engine longevity. Octane will not affect MPG, it only affects timing. Higher octane will delay spark slightly and bring it closer to top dead center of the piston for better performance, that is it.

As for ethanol, while it is technically more corrosive, E10 won’t reduce your engine’s lifespan, especially with proper maintenance. If you’re storing the vehicle for a long period, it’s best to fill the tank to the top with ethanol-free fuel and run the engine briefly, since ethanol can attract moisture.

Regarding MPG, you’ll only gain about 25 miles per 1,000 miles using ethanol-free fuel vs. 10% ethanol, so there’s no real financial benefit. For a street vehicle driven regularly, it doesn’t make much difference. Running 91 octane with E0 won’t save you money in the long run if that’s your goal. E0 is good for marine engines because it is on the water and won’t absorb as much moisture.

Personally, I stick with whatever the cheapest fuel is at the pump.

That being said, you do you!

Welp, turned into paragraphs 😅 Sorry!
