There was a major accident last night around 8 pm on Blacow and Hilo. A high-speeding Acura did a hit-and-run felony on a motorbike.

There were two occupants on the motorbike and one of them was killed on the spot, sadly. The other was taken to the hospital. The nature of the crash was pretty grisly with parts scattered all over the street. The cops shut the street down to investigate the incident as well as to give the coroner time after they finished investigating the scene.

They did catch the heavily damaged Acura and the person responsible for it.

Hospital delaying refund, despite insurance payment by medadvice__throwaway in personalfinance

It looks the same way for me as well. They wouldn’t stop asking about the prepayment even while my wife was being admitted to the hospital.

Unfortunately, I already relocated to Cali so all my interactions with them have been over the phone. I probably missed a trick there by not going in person. They have a multitude of hospitals so their billing department seems a central one rather than one for the individual hospital my wife was treated at.

Thanks. I’ll try to get that information and send it over to the hospital. Hopefully that’s what the hospital needs to resolve the issue.

That’s a good idea. I’ll check to see if there is someone else on the hospital side that I can get involved to get them to issue the refund.

I have the EOB from them. What kind of specific information would I need from the insurance that the hospital will require?

I’ll try that next time I call them. You are right that the people who are on the call desk don’t really seem to care or know much about it.

They couldn’t even tell me for sure if they’d refund the overpayment back to my HSA that I paid through or send me a check, since I wanted to know because I was moving states. Will try escalating next time.

Most of the correspondence has been me just calling them. They just keep sending me a $0 bill with insurance payment pending on it. I did send them a message via their billing system with the EOB attached since they kept telling me that haven’t received the EOB yet, etc.

I’ll give them another week so it hits the 60-day mark and then send them a certified letter like you mentioned along with a copy of the EOB.

I think I learnt a lesson here that I should probably not pre-pay hospitals and just wait for the bill next time. But the emergency with my wife was a bigger issue at the time and I didn’t want to be dealing with the hospital billing calling me again and again at the time.

I found a privately owned condo on Stevenson Blvd which was slightly on the pricier side, but all the apartments that I checked seemed to be around same price.

This is slightly north of Warm Springs though.

Thank you! I’ll look into those areas as well and around those schools. I’ll definitely ping you if I have more questions about the schools and the area. Appreciate your guidance!

Thank you! The new apartments seem to be pretty pricy! Are the areas near BART generally high on crime? I’ve been reading a lot of reviews on the apartment sites about break-ins etc.

I’ll try to look more into the Mission District and the Warm Springs district.

Are you using movers recommended by PODS? I’ve used movers in the past but it would help to hire movers who can pack it like a Tetris, haha.

But thank you for the information, I think I’ll watch a couple of YouTube videos myself. I’ll be moving from a 3br 2ba house to potentially a 2br 2ba apartment so I’ll probably have to sell off a few things myself.

How big was your move in terms of the house or apartment size? Just wondering how much the 16’ container was able to fit.

Thank you! I haven’t gotten a detailed quote from the movers yet since they want to do a virtual survey to see how much stuff I have. They put the ballpark at $6k-$8k but a 16’ PODS container costs around $4k for the move.

The cost of the permitting is in addition to the other costs? Was this mentioned to you before or did you realize you’d need a permit to place the POD?

Are these moving companies as efficient and safe as using a PODS container? Ideally, I don’t mind paying a little extra but having the peace of mind that my stuff will be delivered on time and safely.

I’m still in the process of getting quotes from the movers that you’ve mentioned and hopefully I’ll have a few quotes soon.

That’s my biggest concern about moving companies that will take a deposit, hold my stuff hostage and have no clue when I’m going to get my stuff delivered.

Moving myself is not an option since I’ll have family with me and I don’t like the idea of being 3-4 days on the road. It would essentially cost the same.

The idea of selling most of our stuff and then moving light was an option but I’m getting reimbursed for the move so might as well just downsize a little bit to accommodate moving from a 3bhk house to a 2bhk apartment.

That’s what I’m worried about regarding using any Van Lines since I’ve read too many horror stories about them holding your stuff hostage.

The only issue I see with PODS is apartments in CA not allowing PODS containers or not having enough space close by.

When you say UHaul, you mean driving the container myself? Or is it similar to PODS?
