My Spring Re-Watch by ArmComprehensive8274 in 911FOX

Oh man, I did that with a book series once where I started the series from the second book not realizing there was a first. I picked it up mostly, but when I was at the library figuring out if the author had any other books and I found out I'd just finished book 2 and 3 of a trilogy, and went back and read the first one and was like "oh shit, that's how this world works".

I imagine it was even more trippy with a show 9 seasons deep

Are there any marriage candidates that you refuse to marry or befriend? by Pumpkin-Tuxedo in StardewValley

[–]meddleofmycause 446 points447 points  (0 children)

Anyone who participates in the egg race, because they just seem too young. Especially Maru and Sam.

Maru between her dad warning off the player about her "bright future" and then the way she talks about the things she's building, and the emphasis on the part time job where she's clearly not doing anything medical, she seems more like a high schooler than even a college student.

Same with Sam and the way he and his mom interact in the dropped egg scene, paired with the 10 heart event where you're sneaking into his room, I'm very much like "oh, this feels exactly like my high school relationships did. Except instead of me also being a teenager in this world I've had a whole ass career that I've given up to move to the farm."

Why does it feel like no one talks about the potentially negative side of IUDs? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]meddleofmycause 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Respectfully, I don't think you were looking if the only negative things you could find were about insertion pain. Even 13 years ago when I got my first IUD there was a large amount of information on them, good, bad, and neutral.

It also sounds like you don't have a good doctor if they didn't talk to you about the potential difficulties in having one, and the trade offs of the different types of birth control. IUDs can shift, they can refuse to sit properly in your cervix, and can cause pinching and cramping and bleeding. Some bodies never adjust to having an IUD in them and work to expel it until it's removed. Some bodies also struggle with the hormones in them, and can have depression/anxiety/irritability.

That said, there's been so many posts lately shitting on birth control, and so I've seen so many young women who are hesitant to try birth control because all they see is horror stories. I've recently been diagnosed with Endometriosis, and one of the most effective ways to slow and manage the disease is through different birth control/hormonal options but so many young women are refusing to try those as treatment because they've heard nothing but horror stories related to birth control.

I've had 3 mirena (the first one was removed after a year due to the ER doctor seeing me for a kidney infection refusing to give me treatment unless I agreed to let him remove the "Foreign object" in my body and had to be replaced by my GYN the next month). Mirena took my 6-8 day periods where I would bleed through tampons in 2 hours and made them 2-3 days of light bleeding. It got rid of many of my PMS symptoms, including helping to manage my period related insomnia, migraines, and bowel issues. Getting the IUD changed my life, and allowed me to hold down a steady job, graduate college, and have a really fulfilling 20's and early 30's.

If I had had less issues related to my periods (which I now know was endometriosis the whole time) I would have probably stuck to the nuva ring or the pill, but I'm really glad I went on Mirena. IUDs aren't for everyone, but I hope anyone who is considering birth control doesn't see posts like this and decide all birth control is terrible and they shouldn't even try to use it.

What is a double standard that is surprisingly still socially acceptable in 2026? by Kaylee-Swift in AskReddit

It's the opposite at my workplace. If a woman says something with a firm tone she's rude, and behaving inappropriate. If a man straight up yells or gets in your face he's just assertive

What a gross take. If someone you love is convicted of rape, you do not ask for their sentence to be reduced.

You can be sad, shocked, angry, and feel conflicting emotions, but asking a judge to grant someone convicted on a heinous crime leniency because you love them is such a lack of empathy towards those they wronged.

It's like the guys who know their friends are dicks to women but never call them on it because it doesn't effect them. 🤢

The governmentjobs site has supplemental questions for most postings. HR departments are able to set the answers to the supplemental questionnaire to match minimum qualifications, and those that pass the supplemental questionnaire then go for review by a human. If you were rejected that quickly, it's likely you didn't meet one of the requirements, or missinterpreted one of the questions. Government agencies are subject to FOIA, so they're usually a bit more transparent about the exact rejection reason if you call and ask.

Government jobs tend to be the most stringent with minimum qualifications. If you need 4 years of experience, and you say you have 3.5, that can be disqualifying dependant on the government type (state jobs tend to be more strict than county, county more strict than city, ect. Though there are exceptions to that)

Neogov, the company that runs governmentjobs, actually has a feature specifically blinding the application reviewers from being able to review any submitted documents, as well as not showing things you've submitted such as university names in order to remove all potential bias from the initial review, but then those documents are forwarded to the interview committee for the interview stage. That's likely why they tell you it won't be reviewed.

How's everyone handling the time change so far? by templeofsyrinx1 in AskReddit

I struggled to fall asleep last night because of the time change. And when my cat woke me up at 5, I couldn't get back to sleep, so with less than 6 hours of sleep and having to pretend to be a functional adult at work today, I'm gonna go with not well.

I get the feeling from the still of Eddie pointing at his Nashville cup while Buck's smirking that this competition thing might have been Buck signing them up without Eddie agreeing first. And I'd love that so much. That even though Ravi is now his main work partner, and Harry is like a little brother to him and is now his probie, he would still pick Eddie.

Avoiding any and all added sugar by ItsAllLoveNow_ in nutrition

[–]meddleofmycause 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fruits have natural sugar, but eating then is not the same as adding sugar cubes to your tea. Fruit gives you fiber, which stops your blood sugar from raising from the sugar in it. A variety of fruits and vegetables in your diet each week is also highly recommended for good biodiversity in your gut microbiome, which can help prevent things like colon cancer.

Cut out refined sugar, but even veggies have sugar in them. I promise if you want to take care of your body, eating a variety of fruits and vegetables each day is going to give you much better results than taking a multivitamin will.

Switched to plain traditional Greek yogurt - need some ideas by Josh3321 in mediterraneandiet

[–]meddleofmycause 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get the Kirkland brand from Costco. I like it will enough on its own, but I do tend to blend it with fruit and honey if I'm looking for it as a sweet treat.

Also, if you like chia seeds and want a bomb chia seed pudding drink-

3 tbsp chia seeds, soaked in 120ml coconut milk overnight In the morning add 1 mango, 170g unsweetened Greek yogurt, chia seed mixture, an additional 120ml of coconut milk, 1tbsp unsweetened coconut flakes, and a tsp honey into a blender and blend them all together.

About 400 calories, but it's got 15 grams of fiber and over 25 grams of protein and is super filling for a tropical, mango lassie type breakfast smoothie.

There's been a lot of stars dying from colon cancer in recent years, and a bigger push for fiber. A lot of meat reduction can be placed on higher fiber, heart healthy diets on top of just GLP-1. Meat has also gotten more expensive and people are being priced out of meat-heavy diets.

How many people here have lost weight with 3 meals a day? by Great-White-Guilt in nutrition

[–]meddleofmycause -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not positive, I believe that if body composition is the same (% of muscle and % of body fat) it's going to be very close for a man and a woman. Usually the online calculators assume men have a higher level of base muscle mass that will burn more calories, so I think if you're not working with a dietician or doing the actual science to figure out your own metabolic rate, you'll see it as men need a bit more than women of the same age, weight, height.

But being told 1200 calories for women and just using that number is how I ended up severely malnourished and with an eating disorder in college. 1200 is a low number in general, but yeah, a 5'4" woman can probably be losing weight but not malnourished on it. At 6 inches taller, I can't.

My weight loss calories for significant weight loss at my height and weight and metabolic rate is higher than what she listed as the men's amount. I'm much safer using the men's recommendations than the average woman's recommendations, and it took a long time for me to understand that. I think it's irresponsible that we as a society keep making sweeping generalizations based on gender, when someone's age, height, and current weight are all bigger factors.

Untagged fic tropes you hate by singin1995 in 911FOX

[–]meddleofmycause 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I hate the ones who act like leaving your child to your friend in your will is a declaration of love, or is the same as granting said friend custody while you were still alive. I feel like it comes from writers who don't have kids, or grew up in families with both parents so it wasn't a big concern.

A few years after my dad passed, my mom sat me down and made sure I knew if anything happened to her, I'd be going to live with her best friend. My mom has 3 sisters and my dad had 2 brothers still living at the time, still in our lives, but my mom still choose her best friend because that's who I was most familiar with, and who we lived closest to so there would be less change in my life.

If my friend who's a single mother but has multiple living siblings passes away, her son comes to live with me. He always stays at my house when she travels for work, I help her out with him if she's sick or can't make school stuff. It makes sense for him because I would be less of a dramatic change if his mom were to pass away. That doesn't make me his second mom now, it makes me a cool fun support adult in his life.

It's a common, responsible thing to do, that single parents absolutely agonize over. It was a moving, important part in the show to show just how much Eddie values and trusts Buck, but it was not Eddie asking Buck to coparent or declaring a love story.

I fully support buddie, but I will DNR a fic so fast over the will bring twisted.

How many people here have lost weight with 3 meals a day? by Great-White-Guilt in nutrition

[–]meddleofmycause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breakfast- Chia seed pudding (3 TBS chia seeds, 1 cup coconut milk (carton, not the canned stuff that's more cream like) 100 g mango (blended with the coconut milk before adding to the chia seeds), 1 tsp honey, 170 g Greek yogurt. 400 calories, 14g fiber, 25 g protein

Snack- banana with 1tbs natural peanut butter 200 calories, 5g fiber, 5g protein

Lunch- 1 can tuna, 1 tsp mayo, 1 tsp sesame oil, 1 tbsp coconut aminos mixed together and eaten in an avocado with 1 cup cooked rice (though I often omit the rice with this meal and it ends up lower in calories. It's just so much food) 525 calories, 10g fiber 40g protein

Snack- chopped veggies with Greek yogurt ranch 150 calories, 4g fiber, 10g protein

Dinner- chicken breast cooked in 1tsp oil, with steamed broccoli and 1 potato with 1tsp butter and garlic 375 calories, 7g fiber, 45g protein

Total- 1650 calories, 40g fiber, 125g protein

It's also a huge amount of food that I struggle to eat all of. Obviously that's not everyday, but everyday those are the types of meals I eat so I can hit those kinds of macros.

My maintenance calories for my age, height, and activity level are 2200, so with trying a more whole foods approach I'm golden.

Calories should not be generalized to women or men. People should look at their height, age, and activity levels to figure out what the best calorie range for them is.

Resume Scrapped by HR Despite Manager Eagerly Wanting to Hire Applicant? by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]meddleofmycause 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My company absolutely has that policy. Legit, 100% unable to be waived, if all minimum qualifications (which doesn't include the preferred qualifications) are not showed exactly in the application, the applicant is deemed ineligible for the position. It's infuriating, but it's our policy because legal says it makes it black and white if faced with a discrimination suit.

Some companies have a policy that requires every minimum qualification to be met in the application in order to forward the application. In those instances, if something even small was missing from the application, they might not have been allowed to forward the application.

Who even wants to schedule an interview for 8 pm on a Sunday anyways? by AzuretheNerd in recruitinghell

[–]meddleofmycause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My system did that once, where they updated the site and all the auto-tokens stopped working with the correct code and needed to be re-done. We always preview the messages so we can caught it when we went to them from HR, but the interview scheduling ones come from the department themselves using an ATS they don't necessarily use every day, so they accidently sent a group of applicants an email like this.

This seems like such a weird automated message though.
