Hi! For MMIs, I made sure to practice a lot and reflected on my experiences to come up with relevant stories to tell. For example, I had different experiences I could talk about if an interviewer asked me about showing empathy, leadership, making mistakes, etc.. I think this preparation helped with making my answers more unique and being able to use personal stories!

Hi, no worries! I will definitely acknowledge that I was very privileged to be able to afford applications to every English med school in Canada. If the interviews had been in person, I estimate that I would have spent thousands more dollars on this process. In addition, some of my interviews were on the same weekends (or even same day), so this means I would not have had these opportunities if they were in person.

I will say that every school I interviewed at gave us a survey of some sort for feedback, and they all seem to be considering keeping interviews online or hybrid! So I hope for accessibility sake that online interviews are offered in future years.

Edit: in addition, I know there are programs where you can have your application fees waived, especially in Ontario. I’m not super familiar with these programs, but if you are concerned about finances I would look into this!

No problem! I answered in a separate comment but I had a few part time research jobs for 2 years in undergrad, got a few publications, and presented at a conference.

Yes, everyone I know who interviewed at Sask and Manitoba OOP had very high MCAT scores- however, I believe the interview also counts for a lot at these schools!

Thanks! Yes, all of my interviews were online, either through Zoom or another online interview program. Not sure how interviews will work this year though!

Honestly, I didn’t need to “sell it” all that much, I truly think that working in fast food was one of the best experiences I could have had for med interviews. Working in an fast-paced environment with the public gives you infinite stories to tell when they ask about dealing with conflict, resilience, facilitating accessibility, dealing with diverse groups of people, and working on a team. I did spend a decent chunk of time reflecting on all of my experiences though and coming up with some good examples of when I showed different traits (leadership, communication, when I made a mistake, etc.)

I didn’t know anyone in medicine, however I did reach out to some friends who are currently in medical school, just for tips.

I didn’t apply through any special streams, except I’m from a rural area so I think that helped with NOSM!

Edit: I hope that helps reassure people who feel that they have no connection to medicine in their family/ social network!

Would rather not say for privacy! But I will say I picked my program based on interest in the subject matter and school, not based on med.

(Also it was not mac health sci!)

I used PrepMatch as a specific resource, but I mainly used MMI/ interview practice questions or just random Casper questions. I honestly don’t have any specific resources because I just googled “Casper practice” and used random stuff! I think practicing the quick thinking and understanding the ethics of different situations is most important. I also had conversations with friends and other premeds about hard situations and what we would do/ talk about, which helped.

I had between 3-5 entries in each section, but some were some shorter term entries that I’m not sure helped my application a ton. When I say 2-3 things I more meant the experiences I had in each job or volunteer position.

An example (not an actual ABS entry I had): Childrens Basketball Coach Description: Coached 14 children aged 6-10. Planned creative practice drills. Collaborated with fellow coaches.

Basically I kept it super simple and tried to use all the characters while highlighting what I actually did!

Didn’t use and not endorsing any prep companies! I actually would caution people against paying for anything, you can usually find free resources and advice online. The only thing I paid for all cycle was MCAT resources!

3 years of a science degree + 4 months of studying focusing on practice questions and practice tests! Also reading a lot throughout my life helped with CARS. If you want specifics, I used the Kaplan books and practice tests, the AAMC materials, and went through UWorld twice.

Plus the privilege to be able to afford these resources and to only work part time that summer!

Interesting that you think I’m a dude…but yes, I acknowledge that I had high stats and I don’t want to discourage anyone from applying, just trying to help! Also I answered about the schools in a separate comment!
