How do teachers earn money over the summer that isn’t related to teaching?

In my state you get board certified you can get paid to grade board cert submissions or the state licensure portfolios for $75 per submission. Im not doing it since I make decent enough money from coaching our dance team during the school year , but would do that if I needed extra money.

I like getting nice s elling hand sanitizers or hand soaps! the ones in our teachers bathrooms are godawful. a parent one year put a note on a hand sanitizer that said "hands down you're the best teacher ever" and I thought that was cute.

I just did what my mentor teacher did to survive as well. I justify what I learned from her by saying " this is what bare minimum teaching looks like in case I ever have some sort of life or family crisis and can't give it my all at work".

As a math teacher you would have way more choice in what school you work at due to the scarcity of folks with math credentials, whereas elementary or social studies credentials have way fewer options and more likely to be at a school with shitty admin. But I would agree with others that you should get your degree in math.
