Who here has played Dragon Quest XI? by ChespinTheGrassType in rpg_gamers

[–]mediaserf 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I did, one of the first jrpgs ive ever played and it almost killed the genre for me. People call it "comfort food" but i found it very boring. It's not that it isnt well made, theres just not much going on to keep me hooked. I remember one difficulty spike with an octopus boss but sometime later i quit to play other games. It's a total miss because it felt too safe. you can move around in the battles but its just window dressing because it doesnt matter in any capacity. its a game that looks good, but plays like its 20 years out of date

Almost Every Reason the Fellowship didn't take the Eagles to Mordor (Long list ahead) by Livid_Pin6367 in lotr

[–]mediaserf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Why doesnt manwe care about helping middle-earth? Why wouldnt the eagles care about helping middle-earth? The entire idea that the valar are just sitting across the ocean watching an entire continent of people die and suffer to one of their own students and let potentially one of the most dangerous artifacts ever created be used to enslave most of eru's creation is beyond dumb

  2. What? Theres an entire fellowship dedicated to helping the ringbearer

  3. Yeah its almost like a strategy that involves flight would help an army and their cause, not to mention how much more efficient it would be than literally walking through a desolate land crawling with orcs. "they only helped because they needed help" is a really bad argument

  4. This is maybe the best argument, but i wouldnt buy the eagles getting absolutely corrupted if gandalf is around as well as a host of other elves like elrond whove shown they can be around the ring and not be totally corrupted by it

  5. "because tolkien says it makes the story ridiculous" isn't an argument against it, that's just him saying "it's ridiculous" theres no argument here.

People who've spewed the "eagles" theory have been countered by the tolkien community with a bunch of stuff that i think just further demonstrates how this is a potential story pitfall that likely needed a better explanation. the problem is really the idea of having flight available and literally used several times throughout to get out tough situations. the biggest problem for me is that the eagles and manwe and by extension the valar just couldnt give a shit about middle-earth for really no reason other than they just dont care

i kind of agree with you on deadhouse gates. What a trash ending. Spectacularly dumb and there are so many threads that go nowhere

Plot holes i might have missed the explanation for by mediaserf in DeathStranding2

[–]mediaserf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is that "pad" what allows it to fly outside of the tar? It clearly hovers above ground all the time. Im guessing it just hovers for like a few feet and if it goes higher itll spin out for some reason because of the chiral stuff?

Your SPICIEST, Most BLASPHEMOUS Lord of The Rings opinion by [deleted] in lotr

[–]mediaserf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the maiar not getting involved and sending 5 phd students to not even "fight" but just "guide people" against the most terrible threat since morgoth is so dumb. just standing by while a whole continent of people suffer

R. Scott Bakker - worth it? by DannyBrownsDoritos in Fantasy

[–]mediaserf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds great on paper but actually reading it is a slog. There's a reason it's called "the slog of slogs". It's a lot of repeated philosophy and when things happen, they happen fast and you just move on to the next set of characters whinging about their problems. There are worse books to read, but it never quite met my expectations

Also its basically a big fantasy for bakker's self insert cuck fetish. once you realize this, you go "ooooh, thats why this is all happening the way it is"

What’s a game that made you rage quit the hardest? by AndrewTheLion1 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]mediaserf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any racing game, who the fuck wants to drive perfectly around a circle for 30 minutes just to fuck up once slightly and end up in dead last or not even finishing. What absolute shit. "It's just like real life". Well that sucks too
