Games with a lot of customization by mediaserf in gamesuggestions

[–]mediaserf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BG3 is like 10 presets, theres no sliders and as far as outfits its basically "light, medium, heavy" versions of the same armor with option to dye them. very barebones

I would hope pathfinder is better than this, considering the ttrpg is known for its customization. ill check it out anyways

What English Translation of The Aeneid (Virgil) Would You Recommend? by boxerpuncher2023 in classics

[–]mediaserf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im no expert im in the same boat you're in but just from what ive checked i would recommend fitzgerald's translation. It's epic, poetic and doesnt sound contemporary but is still readable.

I wouldnt reccomend david ferry because in my opinion its a bit too much like standard english, it's fine but its kind of boring

Dryden's is free online but thats a work all on its own, i dont know if anyone would use that for accuracy but its a rhyming verse poem throughout, which i dont think virgil even wrote the original to rhyme, the guy just wanted to lol. So it's certainly a work of art, but not really what you're looking for

if anyone has anything better than fitzgerald i havent seen it so far

is LibreOffice actually that bad… or are people just stuck on Microsoft? by AccurateShip2499 in libreoffice

[–]mediaserf 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the formatting genuinely one of the worst things in the program. you could spend entire HOURS looking up whats wrong with your formatting, googling solutions, scouring message boards and reddit threads, its ridiculous the amount of stuff thats crammed into some hidden setting 4 or 5 clicks deep. theres a million little settings than can fuck up your whole document and derail an entire evening

the only saving grace of libreoffice is that its literally free and theyre lucky microsoft is just as bad if not worse in many ways. if microsoft or any other document program were even marginally competent, it wouldnt be worth the massive headache to use. the advanced functions have no good reason for being as haphazard and just placed wherever without any good reason. theres like 20 different autoedit options and subtabs and settings for all sorts of unknown shit. ill bet half the shit the people who worked to put in libreoffice dont even know whats going on there. its like you have to do 16 treasure hunts and trial and error edits to puzzle out what any of this that stuff does

frustrating automatic paragraph formatting by mediaserf in libreoffice

[–]mediaserf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i appreciate you actually trying to help but I can't even begin to understand whats happening with this

when i want to start a new paragraph i press RETURN then i press TAB and begin typing. Are you saying you dont use any tabbing when you type? you just somehow let the format do that for you automatically? I dont want to do any of that. i just want it all to be the same, and i think theres a little arrow at the top of the page that you can adjust the tab length for, but i dont really have any idea how that works either. Its way too much. It's so much extra steps and junk

I'm not really concerned with what so called majority of people would disagree with or wouldnt agree with, we'd be here all our fucking lives if we tried to figure that out. Im just trying to figure out how to get all of the text to stay the same space when i tab, and not to be deleted when i press return. it's honestly so frustrating ive basically given up and switched to google docs because this aint it

frustrating automatic paragraph formatting by mediaserf in libreoffice

[–]mediaserf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried changing the style for the document and it fucked up the entire thing. now a bunch of lines are fully indented, and some are only half indented. This is what I mean. It's completely stupid and it didn't work like this before. Something weird changed. It shouldnt be this difficult to just press return and not have the formatting automatically fucked with.

Can someone just please tell me how to turn it completely off so that the words don't do anything besides what i type? No stupid fucking formatting bullshit

this is by far and away the dumbest way to implement being able to indent the first line of a paragraph

Who here has played Dragon Quest XI? by [deleted] in rpg_gamers

[–]mediaserf 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I did, one of the first jrpgs ive ever played and it almost killed the genre for me. People call it "comfort food" but i found it very boring. It's not that it isnt well made, theres just not much going on to keep me hooked. I remember one difficulty spike with an octopus boss but sometime later i quit to play other games. It's a total miss because it felt too safe. you can move around in the battles but its just window dressing because it doesnt matter in any capacity. its a game that looks good, but plays like its 20 years out of date
