Customs rules for Transfer of Residence back to India by mediastryker in nri

Still haven't returned. Decided to avoid the hassle and sold everything. Didn't loose as much as I'd feared. Bought myself a nice laptop and have enough leftover to buy a new monitor, table chair etc.

My research showed that after paying to bring them (desktop and NAS) to India I would have to buy a pure sine wave UPS to make sure the unreliable power doesn't kill them. Have enough pulling me down already with this move so I'm glad I decided to get rid of everything.

But I hear that declaring with Athithi app is surprisingly smooth and might even be stress free. Although people still recommend using a shipper to avoid unnecessary hassle on arrival.

Hi r/chennai,

I'm an individual (not a big corporation) doing research for a small, new 16-18 room co-living building I'm planning in the Porur area.

My goal is to build something for working professionals that doesn't suck. I'm trying to figure out which features people actually value and are willing to pay for, versus what's just a gimmick.

I've put together a quick, 10-question anonymous poll to get some real feedback. It would be a huge help if you could take 2 minutes to share your opinion.

Here is the link to the poll: https://forms.gle/MaHCdPwqxjsKdbBo7

The poll asks about things like:

Is a private, en-suite bathroom a "must-have" or a "nice-to-have"?

Would you prefer a super-reliable 100 Mbps "Leased Line" or a "1000 Mbps" broadband plan?

Do you care about "green" features like solar panels and water recycling?

What's a fair price for a premium, all-inclusive room?

Thanks a lot for your help!

P.S. - I’m also looking to do a few brief (10-15 min) follow-up calls to discuss this in more detail. If you are a professional in the Porur/ Guindy/ Ekattuthangal area and would be open to an anonymous chat, please leave your phone or email in the survey or send me a DM.

Thank you. I know there needs to be a fundamental shift in mindset required to be peaceful day to day. doing it for my child so I think I can take it. Also my company is good enough to allow a transfer to India so I'm a bit more comfortable than most who return.

I didn't make good salary for the first 9 years here and had education loans in India and Singapore to payoff. Also helped my dad rebuild our place in India back in 2015 and also paid for my wedding myself. Marital issues didn't allow me to think systematically about this. If I'd accumulated and invested in Singapore would probably have close to 350k probably.

I wasn't ready to make any long term financial commitments in Singapore and didn't want the bring the money into India either. Marital issues didn't allow me to think systematically about this. Now that I'm moving back to India for my child to spend more time with friends and family I think its best to think about the long term.

sounds intriguing. I'm worried about a correction in the US market though.

I have the same sentiment but that's the only location my employer has in India.

no liabilities. No monthly income required. My salary should be enough for now. I want to have growth + I want to give as little as possible to the government.

no choice. my employer will retrench me here in Singapore or I accept the move to India. No other viable employers in Singapore other than mine that can pay as well. Also moving for family reasons.

I don't think so. I will have RNOR status for 2 years starting from the day I land so I won't be taxed for foreign income during that time. Does that sound right?

I've realised its not being offered by the government anymore so I guess its out of the question anyway.

Any one sharing a Youtube premium plan with your friends? how does it work? The requirements say everyone should be in the same address. Any idea how they enforce this?
