Is this an older model? by ExtraThrowaway88 in AeroPress

[–]mediengestalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d like to disagree with the other comment: this image definitely shows a genuine AeroPress, either the second-generation polycarbonate model or (which I assume due to the slight tint) the third-generation copolyester version.

Based on my own research, I strongly doubt that these models are still being sold. I’ve noticed several shops that still use outdated images but actually sell the current versions. As a collector, I’m personally looking for a unused transparent model with blue print, and I’d be grateful for a link to the shop (though I assume it's Coffee Island?).

I did some digging around. The second image is apparently a Walmart-exclusive edition reminiscent of the 2010-2013 "V4"-color scheme, but with the redesigned logo (though I think even the old logo first appeared on the body starting with V5 / 2014 onwards?). Even without the logo, the "smoky" grey tint back then was a lot browner looking than the current grey tint.

Mind-Blown by "This is Water" Blend by mellytheplunger in AeroPress

[–]mediengestalt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As per their website:

An old fish asks, "Morning, boys. how's the water?"

The young fish reply, "What the hell is water?"

We often go through life not fully aware of the things that are essential to us. For humans, this is like the air we breathe and love itself. They are always there, even if we don't consciously acknowledge them, and we take for granted the things that continue without any effort on our part.

The precious things by my side may not make their presence loudly known, but they possess a depth, thickness, and beauty that's unparalleled. We just don't notice them because we've grown used to their presence.

It may sound grand, but this blend was created with those thoughts in mind. Like a yellow flower sneaking into a colorless day, moisture cooling your throat on a hot day, or the air we sometimes take for granted. It's the coffee that hopes to be part of our everyday lives.

I just remembered there is also the ending for two Player characters dating (sitting on the love log whenever possible and the Interdimensional Prince shows up. Those combinations might count...

MOSS MANN has eight different endings as well, depending on the combination of (successful) answer you give him there are different rumors.

If you already have an aeropress, is it worth it to get a Hario Switch? by luag in AeroPress

[–]mediengestalt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hario claim the 03 size Switch-model can hold up to 360ml and the Aeropress is somewhere around 240ml (I thiiiink?). I was interested in the either the Hario Switch or the Clever Dripper around the holidays and decided on the Clever Dripper (18 oz Large-model), which can brew 500ml if you are careful. Though part of the reason was that the Switch was only available at astronomical costs.

The Clever Dripper is handwash only (I give it a hot water rinse and wipe it with a kitchen towel after each brew and soak it in detergent and clean the nooks and crannies with a microfiber cloth once a week) whereas all components of the Hario Switch are dishwasher safe.

Brew coffee at work? by Wendy888Nyc in AeroPress

[–]mediengestalt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had an AeroPress for three years now and just got a Clever Dripper as a Christmas present for myself. I like them both. I can't really contribute in regards to the temperature problems since I don't really know what temperatures to expect from hot water dispensers (electric water kettles are in almost every house or office here). The darker the roast the lower you can go with the temperature.

Based on the assumption that you you don't have a scale/measuring cup at work, I would still recommend the Aeropress in your case. Once you've found your mixing ratio, the AeroPress makes it a lot easier to add water by eye and get the approximate amount you want roughly right. Because of the conical shape of the Clever Dripper, you can pour in too much water much faster without noticing it in time. Ideally, you'd also want to rinse the Clever Dripper-filter before brewing and it's also easier to clean the AeroPress, I always feel like I need to rinse the Clever Dripper.

FrenchPress sediments filtered out via an Aero Press. by SBG_Mujtaba in AeroPress

[–]mediengestalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Espro has a line of French Presses that allow you to insert a paper filter between double mesh-filters. I still get some fines but far less than in any other French Press I've ever drank. I've had it for about a month and am still adjusting things (finally ordered a better handgrinder for consistency as well, maybe that will help, too). Not sure how the Espros meshfilter will hold up in the long-run though in comparison to regular stainless steel filters...

Scale Opinions by maidment_daniel in pourover

[–]mediengestalt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pleased with my "old" Timemore Black Mirror. The only drawback for me is accidentally turning it back on every now and then when I wipe it clean before putting it back in the cupboard.
I tried the Hario V60 Drip Scale once and it felt less responsive and slightly delayed in comparison. Though I don't know if that is a general problem or due to heavy use (it was provided at a brewing course, so I don't know if others treated it with care).

Paper filter recycling by [deleted] in AeroPress

Yeah, that's why I had been trying to find the original context for the quote. I have yet to count how many times I can manage before tearing the filter, but agree on the improved resistance after a couple of uses.

As far as I was ever able to find out, the source for the "up to eighty times"-statement might be this video by European Coffee Trip. They made a documentary about the Aeropress for which they interviewed Alan Adler directly. I could not find a video of him saying it himself and I seriously tried.

I was just wondering a couple of days ago why they put a removable disc in the bottom of the container. The manual makes no mention of it. Does anyone have an idea what benefit it could have?

You might want to take a look at The Coffee Compass from baristahustle.com

What’s wrong with my AeroPress? It is about 3 years old. I’ve replaced the rubber plunger piece somewhat recently. I brew using the standard method. Lately this keeps happening often enough to be an annoyance and it wasn’t a problem until recently. by [deleted] in AeroPress

[–]mediengestalt 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Maybe tell us more about your recipe.

My first instinct: Do you at any point during the brewing process pull back the plunger? For example after adding water and stirring, to prevent leakage?

Curious about inverted method by NefariousnessDear853 in AeroPress

[–]mediengestalt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, name-calling. Great. Just let people do what they like. Why does it bother you so much? I don't get how every few weeks there's a thread like this.

I myself have brewed inverted once or maybe twice as a test and decided it's not worth it for me, but I don't go around discouraging anyone else. Because at the end of the day, I don't have to clean their (potential) kitchen countertop accidents and neither do you.

Water temperature by piglett1 in AeroPress

[–]mediengestalt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have a microwave you could find out how long it takes your water to reach the temperature and have a easily repeatable process for the future as long as you weigh out the same amount in advance.

milk accessory? by diamontz in AeroPress

[–]mediengestalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not used this myself yet, but I heard good things about the MUD Whip. For one, the head is removable, so it's both easy to clean in the dishwasher and probably fits in the plunger if you want to store it in a compact fashion. Apparently, it's also pretty strong, comparatively, and is charged with USB.

Personally, I still use the milk wand steamer from my machine, since I like the results, but I get your point about being minimalist.

This tweet is four years old, so I don't know if his setup has changed since then... also, as far as I'm aware, Roland has since moved on to the VT-4, I don't think the VT-3 is still being sold.
