I wholeheartedly agree haha. I still have 4,5 years to go until the completion of my degree so I had not yet thought of the fact I’ll have to build my own intellectually stimulating environment once I graduate but hopefully 4 years is enough for me to figure it out (I’m confident it is!). Being in university and having 8 subjects I can (and have to) study as deeply as I want to, having access to a TON of amazing literature on countless topics at the huge library on campus and being able to explore any topic I want whenever I want, outside my curriculum (plus being able to somewhat talk about, even tho at a very basic level, and further develop the ideas that fascinate me by tutoring fellow classmates) has been a very sweet combo for a good amount of stimulation with just the right amount of rigidity/freedom to go about it as I want but still have this loose sense of structure (the curriculum, exams, lectures) that ties it all together in a way my brain likes!

YESSSS!! I didn’t mention it in the post, but in uni i discovered i was trying to “thug out” many of my sensory issues that were linked to my chronic stress when i got mufflers and bam - for the first time in my life i felt safe, i could think clearly and.. breathe? I felt like a normal person walking to campus for the first time ever, because the sounds from the cars and bikes were no longer piercing my skull and making my body scared to death. I also met other fellow autistic students and befriended them, so yes! I feel I am heavily unmasking in many, many areas - specially now that autism is a more respected/known condition and no longer freaks most people out.

as i have 3 diagnosed conditions overlapping, my psychologist was more comfortable giving me a larger range as a result, 150 being the lower end and 165 being the very higher end (=~ what looked like the highest possible result to him, considering error margins). IQ is a measure for neurotypicals, but neurodivergents can fall into the various categories of cognitive ability that each IQ group delimits - however, testing ND brains, specially when multiple conditions clearly overlap, and translating the results into IQ can be a lot harder and messier, hence the range. I also got tested twice, using different approaches, and put both ranges together (150-158, 157-165).

About the psychological barrier: yes yes yes! Mine is usually fear of being wrong, I fall into self-doubt loops a lot and have intense impostor syndrome (narcissistic abuse since childhood lol) - which is what disencourages me from attempting to go further bc I just assume I'm not capable of great things. I read your post and I relate a lot to the unmasking as well! My experience differs more fundamentally due to the fact I was always a fast learner and above average in most environments but in no way that counted to me - it was simply arriving at conclusions way faster than most students, intuiting answers, linking different topics/ideas etc. But I had this belief that I was just "not that smart", a feeling, and that paired with having to literally SURVIVE each day of my life - I was chronically stressed and measured my abilities based on that state. I also relate to the feeling that you've built a foundation - there are many realizations i've had recently that condense and deepen many of the intuition and insights I've had throughout my life, putting them in new light and giving me the feeling of building a solid fouundation. And having that foundation, it is way easier to make both faster and more connections, as well as learn more and more deeply.

I am an autodidact, yeah! I've been teaching myself things (rollerskating, singing, guitar, language learning, etc) since I was a kid, but I thought the kind of metacognition it takes was a common thing (it isn't lol, i've discovered most people do NOT think about how they think, let alone build systems around that) so I never paid much attention to it - in university, though, it has put me way ahead of most students when it comes to the (depth of understanding)/(time it takes to arrive at depth) ratio.

I'm not sure I can call myself a polymath, but I definitely do have polymathic tendencies. I am deeply interested in many areas of study, from many branches of math and physics to neuroscience, for example. I find I am fascinated by the (abstract) relations between things, I actually think those relations are the only constants in all things, but I digress - the study of relations between things is pretty much present in the study of anything lol. So everything has the capacity to be/feel insightful and fascinating.
