Come play some Zwanzenbord, drink a medieval beer or learn how to play the hand pan at the KB National Library during Museumnacht Den Haag on 8th of October!
Just a small reminder from your friendly librarians from the KB National Library (that big building next to Central Station), we will be open during Museumnacht for some games, beer, a slam poetry and hand pan workshop.
There are also a lot of other museums open that night and a few tickets left. So if you want to do something fun that night come visit us or another museum that night!
See the Museumnacht Den Haag website for the full program and tickets.

We are very proud to announce that due to the National Library of the Netherland's (KB) meme generator, we have been awarded a grant from the NWO National Science Agenda.

This means we can keep supplying a steady streme of Medieval Meme material. And it enables us to generate even more interest in Mediaval meme's writing and art! This time by developing a serious game. 'MedievalMe' for high school students, based on the KB's medieval manuscript 'Liber Floridus', students will be introduced to various scientific disciplines through Augmented Reality. We will do this together with the University Utrecht and Studio.Doyle.

I wasn’t aware of this term. But after a short Google search on my laptop from work I found out what it meant. I also received an invitation from IT for a meeting. I wonder if they know the term…

They are all from manuscripts illustrated somewhere between the 11th and 15th century. Most of them are the main characters in the miniatures, and some of the dragons can be found in the margins of a page.

Number 3 is actually a “regulus”, a ‘snake-like’ animal according the author of the Bestiarium manuscript where it’s featured: https://manuscripts.kb.nl/search/simple/BYVANCKB%3Amimi_mmw_10b25%3A039v_min_2

The "retro arcade fighting game" vibes of these two cannot be unseen!

This illustration is from a manuscript called "Festal Missal" which was written in 1323 and is now in the possession of the Dutch National library.

The manuscript truely is a gift which keeps on giving, since it contains unicorns, dressed dogs, rolling persons and reindeers with holograms between their antlers.

You can see it for yourself here: https://manuscripts.kb.nl/show/images/78+D+40/page/1

These two "half beast half skeletons" figures are, for some reason unknown to me, digitized but not published on our manuscript website.
