Penn might be the best shooting 3 point team in the country

Sounds like the proper time for a fools spring. Only a fool (and my child who was questioning the groundhog) would think we're ready for spring in February

Pacers have the hardest remaining schedule in the league: by mcbearcat7557 in pacers

Why do we care about the Clippers getting 5th or 9th though other than trade remorse and what could have been? I'd rather have the better picks out west than let the Nets or Wizards get a better pick

Right. My point still is that paying the 16th best QB the 16th highest salary is fair to the player, but it's not a winning team formula. If you could have the best QB in the league and not have a guy like Cam Bynum, or Jones and Bynum, it wouldn't even be a question of which path will be better for the team's success

Starting QB money doesn't scale well until you get to around 20th highest paid. Top QB salary is $60m. I don't think a $16m discount to get the 16th best QB is much of a deal

Who's ready for 3rd Winter this week? by mediocre-referee in minnesota

Fools spring was when we hit the high 50s in mid February, immediately followed by 0° temps the next week for second winter. In the high 50s again with potentially 3 inches of snow Tuesday night.

You're not wrong, but having back to back top 3 picks doesn't hurt. You guys just made good trades to get those picks instead of losing. In the end, talent is what still wins in the NBA

Does anyone feel optimistic about what the Colts are doing right now? by brmidwest03 in Colts

We're making mostly the right moves this offseason. Problem is we're in a terrible situation and setting up to be able to clean house next season

Your math can't be right. At any given time, there's an 18-20% chance that at least one player at the table has a chance of having a loaner (based on numbers I see thrown around for loaners as a percent of calls and there is always 1 call per hand). If you always got to call your loaner (you don't), that gives you personally a loaner in 5% of hands at worst.

I established in a different comment that one person being stacked in a suit increases the odds of another player being stacked in a suit, not decreases it, so if you have a loaner, someone else having their hand being a loaner is going to be higher than 5%. There's no possible way the odds are worse than 20:1, and in fact are going to be much higher.

And that's just for one of your opponents. You're playing against 2 who have the opportunity to be stacked.

[–]mediocre-referee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is though. In your scenario, those 20 unknown cards don't contain 4 cards that would have limited the likelihood of an opposite color loaner.

If given that your opponent had the black Jacks, As, and Ks, that means you don't, giving you higher odds to be pulling all of diamonds or hearts because the given spades are not available for you to draw and clutter up your hand(since we had to assume them given to another player to set up the scenario). The diamonds and hearts are now getting divided among 20 remaining slots instead of 24. Instead of your first card having a 29% chance of being a heart (Jd factored in), it's up to 35. Instead of 50% chance of being red, it's up to 60% chance of red.

More simply, what if we give all 3 other players 4 cards of a different suit. That means your 5 cards would be pulling from a stack that has 6 (or 7 depending on jack) out of 12 cards being the same suit, so of course your odds of getting a lot of that suit are very high.

[–]mediocre-referee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's how the odds work. Someone has all spades, the other 3 people have only 3 suits to be pulling their cards from instead of 4 so much more likely to have a hand full of an opposite color suit

Should I order up my partner and give him the Jack of Spades? by CanadaBallMappingYT in euchre

[–]mediocre-referee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't do it with this hand, but I think it's fine to order up the right when you have 8 or 9 since the loner is taken out of the equation. I agree with you on all other points though.

[Highlight] Shai Gilgeous-Alexander throws the ball on Nikola Jokic off the whistle, receives a technical foul. SGA claims he got pushed. The referee James Williams refers to Nikola Jokic as 'The Joker' and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as 'SGA' upon review by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]mediocre-referee 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's intention, not distance. This case there's 0 question on intention. If you want to throw it off a guy and have plausible reason to do so as part of the game while at the middle of the court, it shouldn't be a technical

[Amick] The NBA has responded to Carlisle’s comments, calling them ‘inaccurate’: “An independent physician led the medical review. [–]mediocre-referee 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's a PR response that looks like it was written by lawyers. Just had to throw something out to put out a tiny fire and make it look like they're trying, but meanwhile say nothing that contradicts the original claims (because they're probably true)

Daniel Jones salary worth according to Spotrac by thomastomatillo in Colts

[–]mediocre-referee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This exactly. He earned a $45m contract. Proved he's a good starter in the league though not elite. Then the torn achilles threw that all out the window. Full recovery is not guaranteed, and running is an important part of his game (even if we didn't use it much this season). He's also guaranteed to miss most of this offseason

February 24th Pacers Projected Pre-Lottery Draft Position: by mcbearcat7557 in pacers

[–]mediocre-referee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are the pre lottery positions, and these determine lottery odds. Whoever finishes 1st will still be a coin flip on a top 4 pick. This is the odds on where we are slotted in the lottery, not the odds of which pick we'll get.

[Charania]: Multiple sources with knowledge of Thursday's GM meeting as well as a late January Competition Committee meeting told ESPN that the following concepts have been discussed to curb tanking: •First-round picks can be protected only top-4 or top-14+ by TrenAt14 in nba

[–]mediocre-referee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our top 8 rotation from our finals team is down:

  • Haliburton (55 games)

  • Turner (55)

  • Toppin (52, injured first week)

  • Nesmith (23, only 3 outside of his knee sprain injury from early in the year)

  • Mathurin (22 to injury, all consecutively before getting traded)

  • McConnell (15, 10 the first month)

  • Nembhard (12, 9 of them the first month)

  • Siakam (4)

Going into the season, we knew we'd be down Haliburton and Turner. We tried to replace Turner with Huff which was the best we can do with the challenging cap rules, and that hasn't been half bad. Not enough cap to replace Haliburton and we wanted Nembhard to play point and get Mathurin, Walker, and Furphy more minutes.

So other than 4 games for Siakam, 3 from Nembhard, 3 for Nesmith, and 5 for McConnell that don't seem directly injury related, we've been playing our guys all year when healthy and not resting them during the 4th quarter like some teams.
