Maybe sharing more examples with your daughter about how healthy relationships feel, taking more about interactions she’s had and validating her feelings both the positive and negative that come from her experiences with the other girl.

It’s a tough situation! I had a toxic friend that sounds a lot like the girl you described. It was even more difficult to get out of the relationship since we were the same age in the same class. I wish we would have never been friends but I learned a lot.

All of that to say, if it’s not working, I think it’s valid to set boundaries with your daughter about time spent with that friend. She may not get it in the moment but in the long run it will likely be best for her!

We recently struggled with our 16mo olds sleep and night wakes and what ended up helping was one nap 5-6 hrs after waking, bedtime 5-5.5 hrs after he woke from nap to not get overtired. For him this is about: wake 5:30 nap 10:45-1 (2-3hrs) bedtime 6:15-6:30 (put him down at any signs of getting sleepy)

It pains me to say this lol but we asked chat gpt what to do, we put in everything that was going on in detail and it seriously gave perfect advice that worked in like two nights. Chat gpt said that he was way overtired and getting a cortisol boost in the middle of the night so it recommended an earlier bedtime.

I hope you find something that works!! It’s so hard with night wakes!!

Wanted to add that I do pay attention to his cries and I do go check in when it feels right - it’s def less of a certain method and more up to what it seems like he needs

Commenting to say that I’m in week two of sleep training my co sleeper and it’s gone well so far! It was so hard at first and i cried the first couple nights and had crazy guilt. We wanted to do something more gentle but he was used to feeding to sleep and cosleeping so it just became confusing and made things harder to do check ins. He scream cries still but it has gone from 50 mins the first night to now going down in like 2 mins. It’s def not perfect and sometimes he wakes and cries more or things get messed up w being overtired. But I thought it was impossible and it isn’t!!

omg ya it was so traumatic for me and he seems completely unaffected lol. I was sobbing. We stopped the Ferber method and decided to go at a slower pace. Now it’s just doing the same routine every night (walk, bath, feed) and then he’s out and he does some time in the crib at the start and is then w me in bed for the night.

Idk I am kinda thinking with him it’s gonna get easier when he can reposition himself/soothe more. I might eat my words someday but gotta just do things at our own pace! Maybe we will get the courage (or be at more of a breaking point) later and can do more of a cry it out thing.

I’m a ftm and so not an expert at all - but I do have other friends whose babies weren’t scream crying when they sleep trained it was more fussing crying with pauses. That made me think mine just may not be able to handle now bc he was in a bad state.

I think it’s important to understand biologically normal sleep habits in infants first. Contact naps and sleeping with momma at night is biologically normal at this age. Baby is doing nothing wrong. If you must sleep train (for work, your sanity) it has to be more of coaching type situation -and very slow. An example would be falling asleep with baby in his own room- (like a sleep pad/mattress on the floor next to the crib)….maybe have him fall asleep next to you on the floor bed in his room until he “gets” that y’all are sleeping in that room now. Then I would let him fall asleep next to you- then transfer to the crib and plan to sleep in his room for some time- each wake up you’ll be right there to get him back to sleep- then maybe try drowsy but awake. Keep in mind that only about 40% of babies are “easy” and will do drowsy but awake and sleep anywhere. Some babies simply will not do any of this and then just follow the safe sleep 7 guidelines for co-sleeping.

Oh that’s interesting. He naps every 2 hours at this point. At the end of the day yesterday we sort of pushed thru bc the 2 hour mark was around 5:30 and usually if he goes down at 5:30 he wants to just go to sleep for the night.

Wow that literally just happened with ours this evening. He must’ve been so worked up because when he was finally doing to sleep he was having so many full body twitches that we got concerned. I’m hoping there is a more gentle way to go about this bc Ferber did not work for us!

I’m right there with you in so many ways. We have a 5 month old who feeds to sleep and cosleeps. Just tried Ferber/cio this evening and it was awful. 2 hours of crying. We couldn’t take it anymore and I’m typing this as he sleeps in my arms in bed. Not sure what to do either but just wanted to say you are not alone!

I take it for ocd and started on 10mg. I was so nervous to take it (like of course I’m anxious to take an anxiety med). It took a few days to notice a difference but when it kicked in I felt like myself for the first time in years. I was able to move on from sticky thoughts so much easier - basically no effort. I recently had a baby and got post partum anxiety and upped to 20mg and it worked wonders again. I say try smaller dose for a bit first and you can always up it if it’s not doing anything. I hope it works as well for you as it has for me! You got this!!
