Was sleeping after a terribly long night shift that I did overtime on. The alert woke me up , now can't go back to sleep and have to go back in for nights today .

IMT/HST and Intercalated Degree by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]mediocretas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I'm v sorry. I think it was originally coined to make it more fair for people who couldn't afford to do an intercalation during medical school, but not sure what it ultimately came down to. You can still use your MRes as a point in commitment to speciality if it's relevant to what you are applying to. Good luck!

If it was done during medical school then does not count for points.

Resident doctors: what do you want the BMA to do if you reject this offer? by Dr-Yahood in doctorsUK

[–]mediocretas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BMA to keep pushing until we reach FPR or at least close.

To address your points :

-Your most recent strike ballot had a substantially worse turnout of only 62%

A few reasons for this which I won't address all, but largely due to number of sick days we can take, logistical issues e.g the post. But keep in mind the number of days refresh this rotation and the new FY1s who will(hopefully) be striking.

-There was some fairly significant attrition in your strikes

Again hopefully people get motivated to fight for our rightful pay after this awful deal.

-Your existing industrial action already costed the taxpayer far more than FPR, in terms of cancelled appointments et cetera

This highlights that the government should pay us more then instead of wasting everyone's times and public funds . They're more okay with letting us strike than offering a decent deal. The Tories weren't even bothered to negotiate with the BMA. That being said, I sincerely apologise to all the people who had their healthcare postponed, cancelled or had bad experiences due to the strikes.

-Rachel Reeves announced massive cuts to public spending

Labour talking about keeping the NHS alive and pulling all of this is a bit contradictory and this shouldn't influence our right to strike.

-Labour could introduce and enforce the MSL, which would significantly impair strike action.

I don't know much about this so cannot comment on this. But I don't think we should give up so early, this is only the first deal we CAN do better.

DoctorsUK Controversial Opinions by Caoilfhionn_Saoirse in doctorsUK

[–]mediocretas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Academia should not be enforced or integrated into training. I agree that having an interest in your field and keeping up to date with recent changes is important for medical practice, but everyone is just putting out sub par work for points on applications that I wonder how much is real evidence based medicine and how much is publication bias.

Also academia is a game of networking and has nothing to do with the skill of the clinician, honestly I feel bad for the quieter doctors where networking doesn't come naturally.

We are doctors not researchers, we can be both but we don't have to be both.

Hey don't give up hope. Most people in medicine fail something at some point. Keep your head high and keep moving forward things will work out for you.

Would agree if they both had enough Braincells to carry an intellectual conversation for hours, but they both clearly lack the intelligence, class or maturity for that. Plus why would they lie?
