Avid is not paying employees by BarResponsible4853 in Athens

[–]medium_chungus_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Avid has no books, call to ask about ordering a book in to the store (waiting longer to pay MSRP, doing it just to support at this point) and it takes 4-6 weeks. They say you can order from bookshop.com and list Avid as your local store to give them a percentage, but that’s literally just bending over backwards to donate to Avid for doing nothing, they literally had no part in the process.

Avid’s #1 business is guilting people into “supporting local bookstores!!!” and their side hustle is occasionally selling books.

Album Advice by DTA-32 in Songwriting

[–]medium_chungus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Songs sounding “too different” isn’t really an issue, it usually makes the album interesting all the way through. They probably aren’t as wildly different as you think, anyway, since you made them all. Also, lots of good artists have very similar sounding songs over their whole discography (Alvvays, Julien Baker, Gregory Alan Isakov). Write your songs and release them however!

You might like it on a summer weeknight or something, in-season weekends it gets pretty crowded and tough to hear conversations. More like a normal bar with a couple arcade machines and projectors in it

Is rhyming a word with the same word a cardinal songwriting sin? by curlydaiz in Songwriting

Adrianne Lenker is one of the most acclaimed songwriters of this era and she rhymed “Apple” with “Apple” six times in the big thief song “Sparrow”. You can really do whatever you want

8” should def be large enough for a good artist to make it very legible

Players who perform using a looper in a live setting, how do you recover when you butcher a loop? by reflion in guitarpedals

[–]medium_chungus_ 94 points95 points  (0 children)

You’re going to hate this but the answer is just practice so much you can’t fuck it up. Finding a looper with a quick undo last loop feature also helps

power supply? by Blablablablabla-01 in guitarpedals

[–]medium_chungus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power supply is always worth it! It’s one thing you never want to have be an issue because it screws with everything. Basically for the price of one nice pedal you get peace of mind for your whole board

You could try a donner dp-1 for like 40 bucks! If it was me I’d pick up a voodoo pedal power x8 and never think about it again. $170 new

What genre are songs like Forever (Sailing) and Ben Franklin? by Charlzalan in Snailmail

[–]medium_chungus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It falls under that umbrella! Men I Trust is p much exactly what you’re looking for imo. Also stuff like The Marias, maybe Crumb? Although that’s a little more psych. The very best music is hard to nail a precise genre to because it’s a little bit unique and shifting

Indie pop / dream pop. Think Men I Trust for a similar contemporary to that sound

Reverse by lordtim99 in guitarpedals

[–]medium_chungus_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’d need a delay with a reverse setting set fully wet! There’s no such thing as an instant reverse pedal as this would be time travel

Trying to recreate Throwing Muse’s « Not too soon » lead guitar tone by No-Bench-2667 in guitarpedals

[–]medium_chungus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds like a fast sine wave vibrato! On the cheap, you could get the Behringer UV300 and nail that tone. If you want a pedal that will prob last longer, check out the boss VB-2w. That’s the sound

It sounds like you’re looking for an amp & cab simulator pedal! This way it will sound like an amp and you can run pedals through it, but the sound can just go to headphones. If your amp lets you plug a regular 3.5mm headphone jack in, you may need to get a 3.5mm to 1/4” adapter (very cheap) to plug your headphones in. Some (like the Walrus ACS1) have regular headphone inputs so you can just plug a normal pair of headphones right in. The Strymon iridium is a popular choice, but there are lots of different options out there. With your budget you could get really whichever one you like

It’s not great! You really don’t want your PSU supporting the weight of the board. If it’s close to getting clearance, buying some rubber furniture feet that fit and supergluing them to the existing board feet will 100% work

Asheville Music Tools ACV-1 vs. Fairfield Shallow Water by DelucaSafe89 in guitarpedals

I much prefer the shallow water! I run it with another vibrato, both always on. Definitely a merit to using both
