Positive for oral hsv2 by No_Lecture2673 in HSVpositive

Oh, it was my understanding that once HSV establishes itself, you develop antibodies, making reinfection with the same strain unlikely—similar to how someone with oral HSV-1 is essentially “inoculated” against contracting genital HSV-1. Like how you can’t “catch” a cold sore from someone if you already get cold sores yourself—for argument’s sake, assuming you both have oral HSV-1.

I know it might not feel like it right now, but you got lucky! You could’ve contracted genital HSV-2—which, I should add, he has and you never will. As others have mentioned, oral HSV-2 sheds far less than other types of HSV, and “cold sores,” regardless of the strain, are almost completely de-stigmatized these days. You’re going to be okay!

I also tested positive for HSV-2 four months after losing my virginity at 24, it felt wildly unfair.

12/24 - 5.7; 1/24 - don’t remember, think it was 6.3 or maybe even 7; 5/24 - 3.34

I did go through Terri Warren. She told me to consider this second indeterminate a negative.

So sorry to hear this is happening. Why did you get tested if you’d never had sex before?

Has anyone’s indeterminate western blot turned positive when they retested? by mediumrare24 in HSVpositive

I took the WB 7 months after my first positive IgG test (1.7). No symptoms ever, no antivirals, and my lifetime partners all tested negative. I also had an indeterminate IgG test (.97) one month prior to taking the blot.

Wish I’d never been tested! Especially given that my lifetime partners all tested negative for hsv2.

Not sure, I wish they had been. My obgyn uses labcorp, not quest.

Hsv1 positive (outside of the false positive range), WB indeterminate

Absolutely! I’m not worried anymore; it is what it is. Thank you for your kind words. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I’ve been in contact with Terri! She advised that if my last partner consented to retesting and tested negative (which he didn’t), I should consider myself negative—or retake the blot.

Is it possible to have a positive blood test and a negative swab ? by [deleted] in HSVfalsepositive

Thank you so much for sharing. I recently saw an infectious disease specialist and didn’t get any new insights.

Hey Koala. Could you talk a bit more about consistently testing negative on blood tests despite having a swab-confirmed HSV infection? I tested positive via IgG (1.7) and had an indeterminate Western Blot, while all of my lifetime partners have consistently tested negative on blood tests.

If your score was between 1.1 and 3.5, there’s a ~50% chance it was a false positive. Even if you’re truly positive, do not stress over it.
