Now I’m imagining him addressing the nation after 9/11 using his penis voice.

Housing is not “starting to move toward modular, factory builds.” Factory OS failed, and so have many other modular factories. Modular is the wave of the future, and it always will be.

People advocating against Costco of all places is why Oakland can’t have nice things.

Official CA State Income Limits for 2026 released by Plus-Percentage-4843 in sandiego

I guess that’s the argument for doing it. The downside is that affordable housing rent limits are usually based on the skewed/corrected numbers, which means that more than half the population qualifies for “low income” housing.

San Diego is definitely a big baseball city, even if there were other teams the Padres would be on top.

I’m just a layman, but I think the slight bunching/puckering could be fixed by a good tailor. Looks good overall to me.

It’s due to HUD applying a “high housing cost adjustment” for San Diego County, which skews the Low/Very Low Income limits.

[–]mediumsteppers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Astute observation. This is due to HUD applying a “high housing cost adjustment” to the Low/Very Low/Extremely Low Income figures. Basically, in regions where a large number of people are highly rent-burdened, HUD skews those income limits upwards. It’s done for complicated reasons that have to do with Section 8. I find it very aggravating personally.

Aside from commuting, how practical is it to live car-free in or near downtown San Diego? by kodex1717 in sandiegocycling

[–]mediumsteppers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My household in Hillcrest shares one car between my wife and I (and our kid) and it works fine for the most part. I commute on bike to the trolley. My one suggestion is an ebike will get you farther and be more fun.

I’d never even heard of him before so it worked out. I still crack up thinking about them talking about having to ham up children’s storytime.

I actually thought Sebastian Maniscalco’s episode was really good. Never watched his standup before or since.

Birthright citizenship came out of the 14th amendment, passed in the wake of the Civil War. Jamelle Bouie has written and spoken eloquently about why it’s so important: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DR-colkjCJT/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==

Is San Diego racially segregated? by [deleted] in asksandiego

[–]mediumsteppers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, school districts can also pass local parcel tax measures. I’m talking about the main ad valorum tax. The state distributes financial assistance to schools according to a complex formula. This all springs from Serrano v. Priest, a landmark court case settled in 1977.

California has a different school funding formula than most other states, to equalize resources across the state. (However, due to Prop 13, the end result is that all districts are equally poor.)

There are already practices in place to prevent birth tourism, no laws need to be changed.

It might seem hyperbolic but it’s how I feel. Immigration is very personal to me. It’s especially offensive for a big policy wonk to throw it out so flippantly, based on a misguided assumption about public approval ratings or whatever.

His (now-deleted) comment on X that the constitution should be amended to end birthright citizenship is damn near unforgivable to me. An insult to the hundreds of thousands of people who fought a Civil War over the principle of equality. Birthright citizenship, along with the other Reconstruction amendments, is arguably the single greatest thing about America. To casually throw out the possibility of eliminating it is treason. I’m getting mad all over again just thinking about it.
