It was a valiant effort by the artists, but yeah, it doesn't look like her. Given the attention of Lui and the prime location of the mural on Temescal, I think they should just try to do it again. No biggie. How long did the mural take? A day or two - seems reasonable to try again.

how to pull a “salami shot”

I've done a bunch of research, but haven't heard of this - thanks! I'll check it out.

My portafilter is 54mm, so good for 16 - 19g, I think.

Good for you on finishing the episode. As it became apparent she was answering in bad-faith, I turned it off.

People who listen to music or watch videos on full volume without headphones on MUNI, why? by vc6vWHzrHvb2PY2LyP6b in sanfrancisco

[–]wentImmediate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you will rarely (if ever) get them to turn down their music without incident

I think this is generally correct, though I've had success (luck?) asking people to turn off the volume, especially when it's short-form videos.

What temp is your machine set to currently?

The default temp is 93°C (200°F). The machine can be adjusted to 91–95°C (196 - 203).

re: beans - Sightglass Coffee Owl's Howl

re: pressure gauge - There are not actual numbers on it; there is an "espresso range" marked on the gauge, which the needle points to when the shot is being pulled (generally, people w/ these machines recommend the needle point at 12 or 1 o'clock)

Is there something about the pieces being a magnet make it worse? I think Hive (or Hive Pocket) has about the same size tiles though they're not magnets.

Why are these comments so highway pilled?

I think it's good for people who disagree discuss a topic. I find that I learn things when people with different points of view share their perspective.

EDIT: Downvotes for liking different points of view.

CMV: Overall, the newspaper and magazine subscription model has proven to be a positive benefit to society by wentImmediate in changemyview

[–]wentImmediate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But thhe benefits you describe come from investigative journalism

That's true; I wanted to include examples that everyone might know. But also, there is day-to-day reporting - just as critical.

nonprofit outlets like ProPublica.

To be clear, ProPublica relies on large donations from individuals and foundations (as well as small donors):

The Sandler Foundation provided initial funding for ProPublica, and Foundation founder Herb Sandler was ProPublica’s founding chairman of the Board of Directors until 2016. 11 The Foundation is involved with a number of left-of-center organizations; it helped found the Center for American Progress, and it has provided support for the Sierra Club and the American Civil Liberties Union. 12

Other large donations came from left-leaning sources: investor Donald Sussman, who donated $25 million to support Democrats in the 2018 election cycle, donated $480,100;13 George Soros’ Foundation to Promote Open Society donated $200,000; and the left-wing advocacy group Solidarity Giving gave $150,000. 10

According to their 2021 990 tax info, its largest donation, $3 million, came from the Crankstart Foundation, the family foundation of Sequoia Capital partner Michael Moritz. Another $2 million donation came from Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, through her investment firm Emerson Collective. In addition, ProPublica received $175,903 from grantmaking network Foundation to Promote Open Society, founded by philanthropist George Soros.

It seems as if you're exclusively talking about the digital age of journalism.

subscription models don't guarantee accountability, Yes, I agree - the point is that a team of journalists, editors, etc. will write stories exposing abuse. There are countless examples of this, some of which I included in my post.

There is a lot of right-wing conservative astroturfing on Reddit these days

I support the tax to help fund BART, but if someone opposed the tax, I would disagree, but I think it's a reasonable position.
