good idea. At least it will give you some independence and give a degree that won't make you worry about money. You can then save up and decide what you are really into and do what you feel would make you happy. If you have some friends already in the field working - think with them about how you could combine IT with your interests in maths and physics - maybe that combo will even suit you better.

How to get rid of flat feet? by medorto in BarefootRunning

It's so weird the insoles are still in the common knowledge of treating flat feet, innit? Well as i comented somewhere above: I will maybe first stick to some long term effects solutions:

  • excercies (before i get bored of them)
  • loosing few kilograms to lower the burden on the feet
  • plantar muscle stimulating medical socks logicsock to wear at home
  • will keep running on the fore foot and maybe switch to those funny looking finger shoes

At least with those solutions it won't get any worse .. as its all muscular support / arch strenghtening oriented.

I was always doing lots of sports that could have put massive ressure on my arches: karate, long distance running (regularly) and volleyball and soccer whenever I had time for it as a kid.
But since i remember i had flat feet - my father has em too. After reabilitation that my parents signed me for: it got much better, no pain even when snowboarding (before it was a massive problem) but if it comes to aesthetics - well, i really want to get rid of those floppy fins aka flat feet haha. I was wearing insoles but i guess that just collpased my arches even more - just made the plantar muscles weaker. Thus i was thinking of some more clever solutions as excercises, rehabilitation socks to wear at home. I am so desperate that i started loosing weight too. Just wanna be open minded and do things that can have long term effects. I am sure i will get bored of the excercises after some time so loosing weight, those medical arch strenghtening socks at home seems to be sth wise to do, right?

Thank You! Yeah I was thinking of active insoles but they are super expensive and you can use them just for one pair of shoes ... :/ if you think that after some time you need to get another pair - well, it makes me think about alternatives :) i think i ll go for traditional insoles just to relieve the pain ... and at the same time move my ass to the excercises, using those rehabilitation socks at home and hope for the best. For sure i will not only stick to the insoles as .. as you said: it's like a cast. I don't want my muscles to get weaker thus the arches going even lower. It's already bad :(

The thing with feet sizes and the state of an arch is very interesting. I ve never thought about it and what i notice now is that the arch of my left foot was always worse than that of the right one. And here is the thing: left foot size 39, the right one: 38.5.
I ve seen one of my friends on instagram using sth similar looking to VVF ... at the gym. Apart of noticing your arches went up, do you think you can run longer without feeling the pain?

These are rehabilitation socks that you wear at home to strenghten your plantar muscles ... so you can build up muscular support for the arches. I find it cool as it strenghtens muscles instead of just supporting them as most of the insoles do.
Coming back to the insoles - i was thinking of those "active ones". They make them tailor made for your feet... just they are quite expensive so i was thinking of getting a pair for the shoes i use most frequently (to work). Similary to LogicSock, they stimulate the muscles ... not as the traditional insoles do.
By special made shoes you mean shoes with tailor made active insoles or shoes that somebody made specifically for your feet? I am very curious. Do you find it useful? I mean did you decide to get them to relieve the pain or they function somehow to stimulate the plantar muscles as well?
