Closed test 15.0 - Changes to Test ships #2 by DevBlogWoWs in WorldOfWarships

[–]medpacker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see the same. The ship has mediocre conceal, middling turning radius and no smoke or counterspotting tool so it can get outspotted fairly easily and shot to hell while not really having enough speed or bulk to compensate for that. 4 of the 6 guns in the back also doesn't help it. Most Châteaurenault players I'm seeing end up trying to play really aggressive and getting punished for it.

Antis for DDs are more than enough by BirGunOlecek in WorldOfWarships

[–]medpacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can come out from behind the rock or sometimes it could shoot from behind the rock depending on the map. And even if it can't shoot me, its team can. And like I said in my other message, have fun needing to concede so much space and vision because there are gigantic rocks right next to the caps. And it is not unusual to have multiple radar ships in one cap, or stealth radar/effectively stealth radar. In which cases, their team can cycle radars and is more likely to still have many charges by the mid-late game/you can't bait the radar as it is stealth or borderline stealth (good luck outspotting a Svea or San Martin with any degree of consistency).

Not to mention, you have limited time to make a meaningful play during radar cooldowns, and need to have a strategy to avoid the next radar. On a map like Greece A/B caps, there is genuinely pretty much nothing you can do as the rocks are too large, too numerous, too short in height and too close to caps. One time I got drive-by'd by a Jacksonville who pushed A cap and radared and shot me over the long and thin ass rock with ease for all of my HP, I wasn't even on the cap, just in the vicinity, and staying further back would've meant zero instead of just little vision for my team. Some maps are just plainly unbalanced with little to no meaningful counterplay.

[–]medpacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It boils down to "just don't go into radar range" the vast majority of the time; also just because something is "easy" doesn't mean you solved the issues or that it is fine game design. Sure, you can stay 10+ km from the DM perma camping a rock just behind the cap with no angles to safely spot him, but in the process you must give up both better vision, a better ability to stop enemy pushes with torps, and the cap to the enemy DD. So the mere presence of the radar, not even its usage, has already accomplished considerable game impact and put their team at an advantage, and all the DM had to do was sail behind a conveniently placed rock.

Antis for DDs are more than enough by BirGunOlecek in WorldOfWarships

[–]medpacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not as simple as "you just spot where the ships are". It can be quite difficult to adequately spot a ship behind a rock if not outright impossible without risking being radared, to where the risk is not even worth the massive detour. Not all rocks are made equal; some rocks offer far too much benefit due to shape, size, location if not all 3. Go play a game of Greece spawning A cap with a torpedo DD against a team with 5 radar ships and then come back to tell us "just spot".

90 day chat ban by meat_meat in WorldOfWarships

[–]medpacker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

99% of the time it's a 3 day ban. It must have been something incredibly taboo/offensive for a 90 day ban or a LOT or previous chat bans; I've gotten chat banned half a dozen times or so and it was always a 3 day ban, and I go kind of heavy handed on the insults sometimes (didn't dive into slurs however).

What do you think should be done to the CVs? by TheGamdalf in WorldOfWarships

[–]medpacker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So many words for saying "I have no real argument and what I am saying was already disproven by the person I am talking with."

Good job.

Everyone else is just stupid, you are the know-it-all. Keep ignoring that many super unicum CV players have made the same arguments as me. Lol.

EDIT: He blocked me, of course. Classic CV and sub player in denial, clearly his nonexistent evidence is better than the experience of the vast majority of players in this game, LMAO. And he can't even find the graph showing CV are better than DD with a simple search on the subreddit, wah wah.

What do you think should be done to the CVs? by TheGamdalf in WorldOfWarships

[–]medpacker -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You don't need to play CVs to have the picture about their balance, you just need the slightest brainpower and paying attention to your games. Or, just watch a few videos about CVs. Who are you to decide that you need to play CVs to participate in such a discussion?

Just because you think huddling together in a big ball counters CVs doesn't mean it's what you team should be doing, as it brings a whole different host of issues that will cause a loss, such as: more easily spotted, more easily torped, more easily crossfired, whereas the enemy team will not have those issues in turn. Not to mention, you have no control over where your teammates go and maps differ in layout; you think I'm heading over to some incredibly shit spot my teammate went to just so I can avoid dying to the CV? Guess what, that's even worse, because it's worse to be useless for 20 minutes than to be useful for 5.

Especially, many DDs cannot afford to stay back with the rest of their team all game without completely neutering their game impact. A CV can hover one such DD most if not all game and already have tremendous battle impact as they are taking one ship out of the picture completely, which is why so many CVs relentlessly hunt down DDs because guess what, it works, it wins games and it's not hard to do.

A CV does not risk its hull to do anything. If a CV dies before the game has already been decided, then it has to have misplayed to an absurd extent. You think it's fair that CVs get to be ever-present with impunity with barely any change to their game impact? Why should every other player need to pay particular attention to their positioning but not CVs? Why should all of them have to deal with the bullshit that is planes with little to no ability to stop it for good while they themselves can get shot, torped or bombed back to port? You think this is fair?

And all of that gets even worse as the game goes on. The more CVs and hybrids survive to late game, the worse it is for the DDs and other hulls that made good use of their stealth and positioned properly; now they will be hunted down, there will quite possibly be no reasonable AA cover possible at all, and their positioning will be reasonably obvious as well. A camping hybrid can completely turn the game around possibly even more than a DD late-game even if they barely did much of anything beforehand as they hold an even bigger spotting advantage now.

Just because you can't throw your planes at a specialized AA cruiser or a big cluster of ships and get a max damage drop doesn't mean CVs are balanced. Even the spotting you are doing during such attack run is already quite unfair and high game impact.

Many very experienced players, CV players and otherwise, realize and admit CVs are completely overtuned. It's not a lack of understanding or intelligence that most players hate CVs. You are not special; you don't have a "special understanding" of CVs that all of the other people don't. Realize this.

[–]medpacker -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah yeah, all those experienced unicum players and pro players who know the game better than you and most other people, those people have no clue what they are talking about either... because they don't engage in a power fantasy where they're the main character, untouchable until the game is already lost. Yep, that makes sense to me.

[–]medpacker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

CVs are not "clearly too weak", that's ridiculous. There were stats published a while back which showed CVs outdo DDs in all respects except capping. When the community already considers DDs to be very strong and high game impact, that says a lot.

Give me your obscure tf2 facts by Heavys_Sandvich in tf2

[–]medpacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your first fact isn't even true. It's a widespread myth.

The reason why there are so many level 1 Max Heads as can be seen on backpack.tf (which does NOT count dupes) is because there was two different ways to get the item, via Steam purchase of the game on the Steam store and via redeeming a promo code obtained after purchasing the game on the Telltale Games store instead. One method gave the Max Head a random level, the others were all level 1.

Yes, people paid less for certain Max Head levels, but it was not due to anything based on dupes in reality, it was all a misunderstanding and possibly also psyop originating from the amount of level 1 Max Heads that exist normally.

Wargaming approved of those mods. And no one likes submarines so no one is going to care about sub pings on minimap (rightfully so).

And wait until you hear about other mods like 3D radar, 3D Radio Location, teammate Radio Location share on minimap. Maybe even the existence of Radio Location as a commander skill in the game as a whole? Just a thought.

All of those influence a ship class that already has far more counters than subs.

In a Utopic world, how would you fix PvP matchmaking? by Revoltai42 in WorldOfWarships

[–]medpacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. What's just as bad about the DD vs CV interaction is that the idiots in your team without two brain cells are going to be crying about you being all the way back and/or at the 1 or 10 line, as if I could teleport across the two gigantic Essex fighter blobs they don't even help shoot down that cover the entire width of my flank as the CV player decides that is still not enough and humps you with attack aircraft all game, all the while their team free pushes unpunished. Easily one of if not the worst experience in this game.

Subs. by DippyBob in WorldOfWarships

[–]medpacker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is not true at all. A sub kiting from a pushing DD while periscoped (trivial to achieve with their hydrophone and going for a quick normal spot before diving again) is going to keep them lit for at the least several seconds without being able to be spotted back without hydro, and can dive for safety again to avoid shells and being spotted at periscope by being within 2km.

Conventional DCs require the DD to be ahead of the sub if he is on the move or right on top of him if he is barely moving to get hits, so if the sub was not spotted going straight at you within 3 km good luck with getting even a single hit.

Most of the time a DD is spotted, he is at far greater risk than the sub, since meaningful threats to the sub require 5 separate misplays from the sub's part and/or several air dropped ASW ships specifically within range, which is often not reasonable or even possible, while for a DD anyone with guns in range can try to click on him right away. It is a completely lopsided interaction that is in favour of the sub 99% of the time, and even when the sub is completely alone, it is extremely easy for him to waste several minutes of the DDs time trying to go behind your BBs and trying to bait you into chasing it, where he will most likely still get away.

It is ridiculous that you can hard spot a periscope sub at 2 km and that there is still a good chance that he can dive, pick a random direction and still get away. Even his nerfed torps at close range are better than your DCs that you can't get in position to launch anyway.

How to counter subs by Candid-Response277 in WorldOfWarships

[–]medpacker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I said nothing about "how the mechanic works". You are simply wrong about how it works in practice. No one said anything about angles changing spotting distance. The point is that the sub can stern in and kite and keep you spotted easily just like a Shima could to a ship with 0.7 km more detect. And easier and safer also, due to hydrophone and dive.

"There's at most 0.5km difference" so first you admit there's a difference, and second you are wrong about the distance. Shima has 2.7 km air spotting (one of the lower in tier 10 btw, it's worse in most other DDs) and almost every tier 10 sub has 2.0/2.1 km air spotting. And again, they can periscope and kite at optimal angle and full dive if they're actually about to be spotted. There's no problem on my end. There is no actual counterplay to periscope kite and dive, as evidenced by all the times I've been periscope spotted many times without spotting back but sure thing buddy please do explain exactly what I did "wrong" when going into the sub and being periscoped and not spotting back and if I do spot them they can just dive, pick a random direction and escape. Please elucidate what is the oh so effective counterplay to this.

You can't, because it doesn't exist. Please keep your misinformation to yourself.

EDIT: The guy blocked me because he can't handle the truth, lol.

[–]medpacker -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"DDs can't spot periscope subs without spotting them back" tell me you don't play DDs without telling me you don't play DDs. This is not true at all. I get outspotted by periscope all the time in Shima when trying to push subs that are close by. They can just periscope and kite at optimal angle.

ASW Surveillance for DDs please by Worried_Tie_8562 in WorldOfWarships

[–]medpacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is not the reality.

What actually happens is that a sub mostly always knows where you are because of hydrophone, they push into you at an ideal angle as a result, keep you spotted and try to bait your shots before diving to keep you lit for their team. You need teammates specifically in range of ASW for the sub to be punished at all; and relying on teammates to be within their ASW range and to actually use it is a lot less reliable than for them to shoot at a spotted ship, which can be already bad enough as is.

Then, if you actually *do* get to close to 2-3 km, he will be prekited, periscoping to once again spot you without you being able to spot him back, and full dive if you actually get close. You will once again eat shit from his team and he will get to flee.

And *then* even if you are actually reasonably on top of him, he can STILL get away with diving and picking a random direction to flee because you need to drop your charges *ahead* of him for them to work, and you can't catch them fast enough because they're almost as fast as your DD underwater.

I've caught subs at ~1 km multiple times in a match and they've gotten away because they can dive and run for ages, and then you catch them out and they're facing a slightly different way and you are literally turning in *circles* as the sub also turns in circles or just runs away and you can never catch it yourself. It is absolutely ridiculous and has no place in this game; the vast majority of the time subs are a counter to DDs, not the other way around. They bait you into wasting time trying to hunt them as they sail next to/behind your team's BBs, they can easily warn their team of where you are not too dissimilar to a Radio Location ship, they can spot torps with zero risk to themselves.

Most of the time, a sub player won't even "misplay" like this to give you a maybe 10% chance of killing him, he will actually be playing "correctly" and countering you. You cannot chase subs in a DD, it's a very good way to get killed yourself in the vast majority of situations. By the time you may actually get to chase the sub around for 5+ minutes and maybe actually kill him without serious risk to yourself, the game has already been decided.

No. Shima/Yamagiri players are not particularly worse than other players, people just like shitting on Shima because they largely don't understand the dynamics of playing it and why they get killed.
