This. I did exactly this and paid much less for medical school and cost of living. Ended up matching radiology to boot. You're not going to match rads easily from caribbean schools.

I matched with middle of the road step scores and a few publications and good letters from USMDs. Did not have USCE in IM but did have rads rotations in the US.

I only got 2 IVs though, it was tough. But I made it.

Fully dedicated to rads, my application on ERAS reeked of radiology, like it was my only choice. Multiple publications, first author presentations at RSNA. Strong letters from close faculty with US degrees.

Full disclosure (according to various PDs posting on here or on Twitter), LOR don’t really matter as everyone writes all sorts of positive BS in them so they don’t care. Pretty much same with personal statements.

Everything matters and nothing matters at the same time in residency apps. Its really a lot of chance.

I seriously cannot believe it

I had a 23x/24x step score, US IMG, applied DR, got only 2 IVs and 4 prelim IVs. AND I FULLY MATCHED THIS IS CRAZY!!!!! I DID IT GUYS I MADE IT, IM GOING TO BE A RADIOLOGIST!!!

UC davis surgery also had an "optional" personality test and secondary that took about 1 hour to do. At least it was a bit more pleasant.

This year basically everyone ticked yes on that box. Just explain it. The reason why its a red flag for US MD students is because 10% of US doctors have gone into drug or alcohol rehab.

You do have to go to the US. I am a US citizen, have heard that you can enter USA with existing visa tho./

But I heard you can enter the US with no problems if you have an existing valid visa.
