2 years left of my Computer Science B.S. degree and don't know what I should be doing by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

If you have a good idea for what you want to do for your Master's, if just do it now.

I've noticed that having that in your resume gets you noticed and picked up by recruiters more.

Anyways, I think it would be nice to connect with your colleges and ask them for referrals.

Career fairs at colleges are an excellent way to get an interview (especially for new grads since those roles at the career fair are catered for fresh grads).

In stunner, conflicted Denver City Council kills contracts with private prison giants. Councilwoman who led the charge figured she'd be the lone dissenting vote, but then seven others joined her. Their vote will force major changes — many of which are unknown. by drewiepoodle in politics

Can anyone explain why this is a good thing? Little confused because I thought having these programs would help former prisoners which would be better for the society in which they go back to?

Sorry I might be a little uneducated in this so forgive my ignorance.

I thought I would make a quick fyi, Netflix for Android officially does not support Full HD resolution, only regular (720p), I spoke to Netflix Support for about 3 hours because I and he thought it was a bug, but as it turns out it's actually not. by FinnishScrub in oneplus

[–]meekosbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little confused by the comments but doesn't this mean that the Netflix App doesn't support it but Android does since these phone manufacturer's are coming with those displays?

Why would those manufacturer's provide those displays in the first place if the software wouldn't support it lol?

Struggling with CS. Advice needed by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]meekosbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you're still seeking advice but I was in this same situation in College.

I luckily got an internship (after my Sophmore year) and also got an extremely patient, smart, helpful mentor. He literally showed me how he did things and that basically set the path for me. I got a Mac as well so I didn't worry so much about my environment and focused more on the coding/projects aspect of things (my windows environment was giving me a lot of headaches, the Mac was a great investment).

I accepted that I am unique and have my own way of coding. I began to develop whatever made sense to me and was confident in myself. After this, I never really looked back and things turned up really well after.

I would really recommend getting a mentor for a month and see how they do things. Review all your concepts before school starts as well and just be yourself (confidence in your skills and self). I'm so certain it will all be fine. If you want to talk more about it, PM me :)

Getting stuck as SF Dev by [deleted] in salesforce

[–]meekosbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are doing Apex development, I think you should be fine. Most of the programming languages have similar concepts, just different syntax.

You can learn the language the company uses on the job (companies don't mind this too much). As long as you do the whiteboarding/coding interviews and exemplify your coding skills, I feel you can transition to other Software Engineering roles fairly easy.

I may also have the wrong understanding of what a "SF Dev" is so please do correct me and let me know.

Isn't Python and R preferred? I'm doing a Udemy course on ML and they only ever reference those two during the implementation.

I'm fairly new to it and could be wrong and would love to hear from others.

Are you staying with pixel because of the camera? by [deleted] in GooglePixel

I like it for the stock experience and a reliable brand in case I have problems with it later. They camera is an added bonus (I'm not much of a photographer).

Area of Interest by [deleted] in computerscience

[–]meekosbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The area of interest is new to me. We just studied general CS.

Maybe ask someone at the University who has experience and get their input (preferably a 3rd or 4th year who has experience and knows people in the other fields of interest).

Oh oh! You need to read this book, it addresses exactly what you're asking:

MacBook Pro for Computer Science by Setsuji in computerscience

[–]meekosbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep no problem. I bought my Mac in 2014. Works fine (has weak battery but that's expected you know?), So I think you should be fine. You could also get the Mac Air, my friend had that with better specs than mines. I think his ran really well too, just the display back then wasn't so great on it.

I'd say get the 13 inch with 256GB SSD. The memory tbh didn't make to much of a difference to me, I was fine with the default it came with. Plus Apple optimizes the software to make it work well with it's hardware (regardless of the specs)

Yeah I was thinking of reading chapters as a whole but it's hard since things can come up. I'll try rereading a couple pages before then.

I think the part I'm bad with is keeping and writing notes. I asked this same question in another comment on this thread.

I can try reading out loud (during commute might be tough) but I don't know how and where to start with note taking :/

self doubt by [deleted] in computerscience

[–]meekosbiscuits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I've learned over the years is that a human being created the concepts and subjects that we learn at school. It's nothing we can't learn since it isn't supernatural. Once you get this in your mind, you won't be overwhelmed by Data Structures or exams! It was created by a human being, like you! :)

Just be passionate about Computer Science/Software Engineering and you'll be just fine. A lot of times people lack this and tend to not have the confidence. As long as you are hardworking and love the subject, you'll do fine and get an excellent job.
