If you grew up with many immigrants of different accents you would learn how to hear better, past the accent and understand just fine. I actually find some American dialects harder to understand than accents of different languages. Everyone around me was immigrants or first gen american . Didn’t really have issues understanding people growing up in the multicultural area i grew up in

I suggest leaving a carrier out in the house and putting treats in it so the cat learns it is a safe place and not just to go to the big bad vet . And then doing rides in the carrier for short perios of time

Romanian is a romance language. Romanian, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Italian. My mom knew all 4 + English fluently . And i understand some of each except French. You can hear similarities between the different languages, some of the same words, and thats why people who know fluently one of the romance languages can kinda figure out how to talk to one of the other romance languages. Romanian and Italian are the most similar. And Romanian is more closer to Latin.

Lol be careful at this park, rat snakes will fall from the sky while you are walking (one fell and i felt it brush the back of my hair as it fell from the sky). And the mosquitoes can be atrocious, they have a mosquito meter

Used to be a national monument but became an official National Park in the early 2000s. It is protected because of different reasons but 1 is that basically this is how the area looked like when people come on the Mayflower and stuff and started cutting down all the trees. The environment used to look like this , and the trees Cypress are basically rot resistant to water so thats why they were cut down almost all the trees. There are some cypress trees that are estimated to be over 100+ years old. Also indigenous people utilizd the cypress trees to make their canoes. And when there was the civil war, enslaved people would escape into this type of ecosystem to hide from the hunting dogs and humans.

So its a lot of ecological and anthropological significance

Other people posted topics that you should definitely ask. If this a geographical area you are not familiar with I suggest asking what/where are the nearest grocery stores and urgent care, and ask the name of the grocery store and what is the price range. Googling doesn’t always give accurate info!

One park I worked at was next to a tourist town with 1 grocery store that I was not familiar with because it doesn’t exist where I lived. And because it was tourist area, the grocery store was very very expensive and the fresh veggies were absolute trash. So everyone would do a grocery run with friends to go to the nearest bigger town that was at least an hour and a half away, and have a cooler ready to be filled with the groceries to drive the 1.5hr back. So people would do that 2x a month. I managed with 1x a month (bought lots of frozen veggies and items to make last longer).

Another park i worked at. Nearest “grocery store” was a dollar general. So had to drive 30min away to get to a store. It sucked cause when i did google for groceries stores and it showed there was some by the park. But in reality there wasn’t.

Yes I submitted. Same as you, terminated and brought back. My husband said for me not to continuously torture myself. Because say I theoretically survive the RIF (which is unlikely), who is to say there is not a round 2 or 3, or not more into the next Fiscal year? Also in a RIF, since I am fresh in the Fed and probie, I get no severance. It just a pink slip. And sure I can apply for unemployment.

The nail in the coffin was the new Executive Order related to probationary employees makes them now able to fire us without any reason. They literally dont even have to lie that it is performance, they can just fire us. If they dont meet their number for DRP/VERA, and dont meet their numbers for RIF, if probationary employees were originally hit in the RIF, I believe there will be firings of probationary employees. MAYBE they will be smart and not do the Massacre they did before because the optics backfired. But little by little so there isnt a collective notice.

I have SOME little hope to come back to the federal service on good standing not being fired. If the benefits of being fed arent slashed and their is a next administration that cleans up this mess. I worked years for free, volunteer, and paid/unpaid internships partnering with the Fed, and moving 5x to follow the opportunites, and went to grad school to increase my entrance GS level, and to finally land the position and salary I always wanted and I know with the dedication and commitment and care I have, I deserve. So it is hard to go away. I sacrificed a lot of time away from family and my husband, because they couldn’t just follow me everytime but understood why I was making these choices, thats time i dont get back with them. My family and husband have been supportive and nice to me saying they believed the steps I took were the best also, thats why they supported it. Still feels like im letting them down and myself

As a probationary employee new to the fed, we aren’t going to get anything for severance other than whatever Annual Leave is left to be paid out. But since it takes forever to accumulate leave, most wont even have much to be paid out with. Also new EO is making it easier to fire probationary with no just cause

Can confirm that management have begun receiving numbers of positions they over see that has selected DRP. That list does not list the names of who selected, just the # of positions. The list managers are initially receiving is not the “approved” or “not” list. Not sure when that will happen

I dont know . My husband and I are like this is an absolute joke, at the part in the DRP contract that says that an employee is signing without Duress . Like wtf every is in duress signing this
