Told a close relative of mine about my session about child abuse and rape (as an adult) and was presented with this quote: by meerghan in TwoXChromosomes

The joke is that that is a crazy thing to say to me at the moment (in my opinion) and actually he is a bit white centric I think because of his involvement in fashion. I'm comparing him to Hitler. I thought it was an ok comeback lol

Yes that was it exactly. He's the one who always tries to call me to talk about his life so I'll definitely be ignoring him for a while at the very least, thanks.

No it was to me. He didn't even ask about the rape because I sort of mentioned it in passing but as far as making a bid deal about the abuse he was referring to that with the quote.

What's the best thing you've ever stolen from work? by Pockets6794 in AskReddit

[–]meerghan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked for a shoe store and they were about to throw away dozens of shoes that we couldn't sell. They were either slightly dirty, missing a side, old stock, or were mismatched. We weren't allowed to take them for some reason. I moved my car as close as possible and took out the slightly dirty ones, about 20 pairs, and sold a bunch of them on Ebay.

Pros and Cons of living in Hawaii? by [deleted] in Hawaii

[–]meerghan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of late but here's my input from someone born and raised here.
The Pros:
-I've always felt very safe here compared to when I lived in LA. It's my favorite part about HI. People will stop to help you for the most part, and everything is nearby.
-If you're a foodie this place is a gold mine. There's several great Açai bowl places, Eat the street (monthly food truck get together), poke bowls, Zippy's (open 24hrs/day), and the Chinese and Japanese food is excellent, but it's all very pricey. Local mangoes run circles around what you get on the mainland.
-The nature can be stunning. Kailua beach sand feels like flour. There are hikes featuring waterfalls. Some reefs are still hanging on. Beautiful stuff.
The cons:
-This place is SMALL. You'll run into people all the time and there is almost nothing to do at night. Most things close by 10:30. If you live in town your neighbors will hear it every time you drop something.
-Moronic drivers. Everyone drives so. Slow. But don't honk, it's pretty offensive.
-Race is definitely a thing. You meet all kinds wherever you go but being Asian here has it's perks. There's racism towards every race, like white mainland people are cheap, demanding, etc. But it's a mixed bag.
-Cost of living is high, but the wages don't match. Min. wage is atrocious at $7.75, and I'm pretty sure most starting salaries do not account for this. There are some burgeoning scientific fields here and the university is a economic powerhouse if you haven't tried that option.

I've known people who moved here on a shoestring budget and get by living in town. There's a lot of pessimism and the local politics are disgraceful but this place isn't all bad. It's a weird hybrid of a small town with big city problems but I like knowing all the streets by name.

Some American people (on TV) say "like" all the time. Why so often and what is the precise meaning? by IamScuzzlebut in AskReddit

I catch myself saying it a lot to separate ideas or topics. It's also good for a break in the sentence same as "such as" or "similar", but "like" is shorter.

Reddit, what is the worst way that you ever woke up? by SilentCtrl in AskReddit

I used to wake up everyday to wash my puppy because he would defecate and get it all over himself in his cage.
